This is easily the most volatile game mode. They either need to create a mirror of classes so that at least it is even on both teams or remove it. It makes ZERO sense. If your team doesn’t have a preferred flag carrier that can clear the map in 3 jumps, then there is nothing you can do. If your team is melee heavy, then the enemy flag carriers can just out run you. The only other thing they could do is add a debuff when you get the flag that all movement modifying spells and abilities are disabled and you have to run across the field. They have to find a way to either slow down the classes that break the game mode or speed up everyone else to keep pace.
3 CTF in a row with unbalanced teams, 3 losses.

No matter how quickly they get across, they can’t score if your team has their flag.
Have a rogue/feral waiting for them?
There are probably a dozen strategies that can overcome this one advantage.

That is if we have a Rogue or Feral. Also, if it is a healer with the flag, you need 3-4 people to kill them depending on who they are. If they have a hyper mobile flag carrier, they can leave 6 on defense. because they only need to cover to the midway point. So even if you grab the flag, you have to go through almost the entire team. If you have someone on your team die, they have to cross the entire field to get back into action, where the defending team only has to move a fraction of the difference.
leaving a dps in your flag room is throwing, please dont do this

You would be shocked how often I tell people we shouldn’t leave DPS in the flag room and they start to lose their minds.

They don’t have to wait in the flag room. Think you’re missing the point. Keep complaining…

not complaining, just saying its a terrible strat and you clearly implied waiting in the flag room haha
Newp. Never mentioned the flag room.

CTF is the best game mode in blitz. However they need to change it where a tie results in a draw. The last team to cap getting the win is garbage.

Instead of removing CTF (ridiculous idea) fix outlier classes that are too strong.

I agree with this as well. Not only does it not make sense that the last cap is the winner, but from a game theory design aspect it makes no sense. To advance to a winning state you need to cap. So how is capping second valued higher? It’s not like we are taking turns where one side plays offense, then switches to defense. The team that caps first has now added an additional way for them to lose the game. All because they completed the game objective better than the enemy team. If they cap twice first, they now can lose by the other team capping twice or three times. In what way does that game design make sense where you punish a team for succeeding too fast.
I agree, but until they are fixed, the game mode needs disabled/removed from Blitz. It can stay in 10v10 because you can set your team up knowing that you may get that game mode. However, in Blitz you don’t get that option. I only had time to play 4 rated games tonight. 3 were CTF. All of them were losses due to the enemy team having a much more mobile team and flag carriers. That is WAY TOO MUCH rng for a rated game mode. It is great if you happen to be a class that is built for CTF, but if you are not and you don’t get one on your team, it is a huge disadvantage.
Weirdly enough these are among my favorite maps. I played one where our team seemed clearly out-comped, but we won even though the opposing team had an evoker fc. lol
I think ToK should be removed. You can play it as right as you individually can, but if your team refuses to pick up orbs and is just chasing meters/kills you’re not going to win.. It’s such a bad design for a rated map.

I think you can make the same argument for most maps though. I lost an AB because we had people who refused to cap points and wait for them to finish. They would just run off. No matter how well you play that individually, you can’t be everywhere. In general, if people do not play the objective, you are not going to win. CTF is the only game mode at the moment where there is a distinct and glaring class advantage for a few classes. It is a fundamental design issue that needs addressed and because you get a random team, you have very little control on what you can do if you get poor class selection.

I would love the old Warsong Gulch rules back. I think most people would be unhappy with three hour games though. Or if there was still a time limit, then people would just turtle, which would be its own can of worms.

Is this a troll post? lol CTF is the easiest map to win on and often the quickest. Its the 1 map which actually forces real teamwork.
I’ve found the hardest comp to carry is double priest. Some people haven’t played this game before Battleground Blitz when there were only RBGs 10v10 and don’t know the Death Ball strategy that was the main strat for high rated RBGs pre-BGB. Thinking that a priest will be able to be escorted by 1 person facing 4-6 of their dps or better words, their whole team.
It makes sense a Ret paladin would post about this tho because they are 1 of the only classes that consistently will be on D and peel for the FC. Sometimes you need 2 ppl to help the FC, with double priest you need even more. Especially if the enemy team has double rogue, DK, or Mage.
Some things could make your job easier in peeling for FC.
- Change your shoulder enchant to speed - just go all in
- Spec into Blessed Calling, Lead The Charge, Faith’s Armor, and Divine Purpose
-You can take out the two talent points in Blessing of Protection and still have Blessing of Spellwarding. Since they share a cooldown and you can’t use BoP on the FC, using it on yourself would only draw them to hit your FC. You want them to be focused on you.
- Use Macros and WoG your FC when they are taking damage. If there are melee around, it will reduce your FC melee damage taken by roughly 5%
-Move your raid frames just above your action bars and horizontal (this will help with the macros and healing/lay on hands/blessing of freedom/sacrifice)
Macros:
- WoG: #showtooltip Word of Glory
/cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][help,nodead][@player] Word of Glory
This makes it so all you have to do is have your mouse pointer over a raid frame and you heal them instantly. Plus the enemy team won’t see who you are healing and won’t realize it because you are dps. Can even use this on yourself too in 1v1 2v2 situations
Hard cast and Hard Target Lay on Hands and Blessings to avoid messing up a spell on someone else, but this will rarely happen because it’ll be just you and the FC and everyone else will be out of range
Also have rebuke ready for a mages ray of frost, this can kill a FC in 3 seconds, HoJ for anyone that comes close, and Judgement to slow enemies while kiting
Best of luck!

Every map should just be different flavours of Gilneas because bgs are only fun when theres really fun team fights and how fast and well people rotate. AB too big that 1 person can just cap a base instantly and flag maps just arnt ever comp fair.
and its exactly the reason why most people lose or are stuck because they focus on a halfway teamfight instead of playing objectives
If you wanna teamfight and zugzug you should go balls to the wall with it, 8 ppl all together death balling. Wipe the team then split off. Not this thing where theres 4-5 ppl at one base and 4 other bases are free or with CTF going to fight teamfight then you end up tunnel visioning and while your FC trys to pick solo and theres a rogue and hunter sitting there waiting for him as soon as he picks, having to blow all movement cooldowns and some heals just to get out of flag room, when hes mid, he dies due to no help and the whole team jumping on him

I wish blitz was just ctf. More people would consistently play blitz if it were only ctf. The other maps don’t play well in this format.
Nothing tilts me more than sitting a 10+ min queue just to see ab or dwg on the loading screen when it finally pops.

I think CTF is awkward in the current rotation because:
- It is very role oriented (fc/escort/offensive/defensive) and there is no role selection system in wow pvp.
- Mobility is extremely valued, and the game has not homogenized that. You have classes playing like its super mario then you have specs like…spriest. Too much asymmetry
- Wayyy too comp dependent. If you Q against a dedicated monk/evoker 1trick FC (lol) you are gonna lose

Make the flag have the person carrying it run at normal speed no speed modifiers its really that simple but no we have to chase down mw and whatever else because reasons
