One of the main reasons it’s difficult to punish fire mage (esp. without having a purge) is due to alter time. This ability is simply too powerful for fire.
To encourage playing frost and arcane, alter time should be removed from fire.
The toolkit of fire mage is insanely overloaded as it is.
Honestly just make them squishy imo. They have no reason to be this tanky and skill cap will eventually get higher once all the passive healing and tankiness is removed.
it shouldnt be available to fire tho tbqh. There is literally 0 reason to play the other specs. Fire gets everythign good from frost and arcane and frost/arcane get nothing good. Fires toolkit is simply too huge.
Because RMX is so braindead to play and free, there’s no reason to play harder comps that require more thought. Ever heal a fire mage that only plays RMX? It’s actually hilarious how bad they are without a sub rogue control if thats all they play.
Frost isn’t a great template for the direction to take things imo. The spec performs best literally replacing all your active buttons to just slap damage modifiers on frostbolt (lonely winter losing you pet & pet nova along with ice lance, taking away glacial or ray of frost for longer icy veins, etc.). Having like 4 abilities is a problem that almost every frost mage I know wants to fix with a fundamentally different build.
I’m not sure if fire feels strong enough on its own to really warrant any significant nerfs atm aside from correctly applying the triune nerf which is significant if it’s correctly applied. The only toolkit change I think fire should really get hit with atm is a longer CD on DB, which imo is just absurdly short atm. Could be doubled and be reasonable imo.
Fire is too good on utility - damage is definitely reasonable after the multiple tuning passes. Nerf survivability a bit more or fix the poly ring alter root db and nightfae kiting/resets.
I legit play mage once a week like an autist and its free wins to around 2200 without ever practicing.
