Majority of the people on this game don’t know what they’re even playing. While doing the unlock quest as a replacement for Exiles would be nice, I don’t even think the people who did the Allied race unlock quests understand what tf they’re playing.
I unlocked all these as they were available but don’t wish that on anyone else if they don’t have the time or patience and at the end of the day everyone wants to look cool.
I’ve unlocked several that I truly wanted to play. Not quite sure why because even while learning their lore I found most, if not all of it, to be rather boring… in the old days you learned your races lore and history by playing through the early parts of your class. In all honesty I would just prefer that blizzard added a few small zones or take some they have, drop a city into it and let you select the race.
When I first played the goblin race back in the day, their starting zone and quest were so much fun and super entertaining to learn about. The Wargon didn’t have near as much stranger type fun, but they where a dark and brooding people with a very tragic past.
This I found fun and interesting; now days you have to do lore about a race you don’t know with a history barely put into practice all way before you even get a chance to play them and if you end up disliking their story, oh well, you have already unlocked them so you’re going to play them. I mean you just sank 30 hours into them. You’re not going to not play them. Just races heve never been done this way till recently. I’d think blizzard put in all that effort because they want people playing them.
So unlocking was fine for a couple expansions but it’s time is over. I don’t have a horde character because I have lost my oldest account with my undead priest, and I’d like to play a nightborn. But that much effort to be able to play the race is just not worth it.
Yea, I am going to agree with this one. This is outdated padded content. It shouldn’t be forced anymore. Sure keep the achievements and story lines in there for anyone who wants to optionally do them. There is a good chance a returning player may never step foot into legion or BFA at all. New and returning players shouldn’t be forced into playing a race they have 0 interest in just to unlock another race to play.
I almost had both my brothers not come back to the game because of this. I had to talk them into rolling races they had unlocked (the base races). They were not to amused after I told them the requirements to unlock fancy races. Both wanted to be dark iron dwarves for the racials and awesome looks. I get the feeling they wont stick around for very long. They hate leveling races they don’t like. Both are originally horde, so getting them to even try alliance was hard as it is.
Anyone who argues that, it doesn’t take long to do, just do the requirements. Why? If they are that easy and take so little effort, why have them in place at all? Just to lock someone temporarily to a character they will hate playing? Make them waste time on stupid run around quests for something else they would rather spend their precious free time on?
and yes, i’ve done all the requirements to unlock every single allied race. At the time it was something to do to waste time in the most boring expansion ever - BFA.
FYI, it appears (just from what I’ve seen) that completing “Ready for War”, for either faction (Alliance or Horde) makes you eligible to begin the embassy portion, of the unlock (for either faction). I had cleared “Ready for War” as a “happy accident” while on my journey to unlocking the Kul’Tiran (on my Alliance), that “Ready for War” just came, naturally.
My receipts:
Even though, on the “Mag’har Orc” Banner says I’m “not eligible” to unlock “Mag’har Orc”, I’m still able to pick up the quest to begin the unlock because I did “Ready for War” on Alliance. So, if they like Horde, could try this little “hack” maybe?
I haven’t unlocked ALL of them, yet (maybe eventually LOL). I’ve been unlocking them 'cause that’s just my content, right now. I’m not interested in SL, and I totally skipped out on BOTH Legion AND BFA, when these Allied Races were a thing. So, IK what it’s like to unlock them “after the fact”, if you will
This is the crux of the matter. Along with what you said previously about deterring your brothers from playing.
I went back and ground out the rep for mounts. It took a while, I farmed it, I accepted that. It was a mount from a past expansion. A slew of races from past expansions, I do not accept nor would I expect anyone else to. Races and mounts are entirely different. Same thing with classes. When “hero class” was a new thing, the level 55 requirement to play a DK was fine (plus the game was in infancy with a massively growing playerbase). Reaching sub-max level is NOTHING compared to what it took to get the tougher Allied Races, even the easier ones for that matter.
I find the requirements to unlock them odd… I already got exalted with the Highmountain Tauren, why on Earth do I need to do more? I did their whole dang quest chain there and maxed out on rep.
Yes. It is the entry quest to do vol’dun, and to unlock Vulpera a player must complete Vol’dun.
It must have been irregular prior to this patch. I did it at least half a dozen times and had no problem. The issue right now is that it can’t be completed at all. The mount you must ride hangs up and you get ported back to your starting point. This happened when 9.2.5 was implemented. That’s when the mass of complaints began.
I feel bad for those who did it “back in the day”, when needing reputation was a requirement. Reputation isn’t required, now.
And, I felt bad, when this person was on their journey to unlock Kul’Tiran and thinking they needed to perform the dungeon, when it’s skippable, as well (nowadays):
So, Blizz did “uplift” some things, but I don’t think any of the prerequisites should be necessary just to do the Embassy stuff. I think a great compromise is just have the Embassy quests ready to be picked up, for those interested in unlocking a certain race.
I (also) think it’s silly that a lot of “new” customizations we’re getting are being locked behind achievement walls.
Allied Races, “Night Warrior” Nelf Look, the “Red Eye” Elves, etc. It really should be part of the customizations. I’m fine with Transmog but doing it to Races, Eye Color, Skin Color, etc. is getting a little ridiculous
Id really like to be able to have the allied race as well without all the damn requirements and I can’t even get Vulpera since I am stuck at that quest too
