Literally don’t understand how anyone can enjoy playing this genre… it’s like playing an ARPG which is already a bad genre but making it worse. Hades, deadcells, blinding isaac, and Torghast are all absolutely terrible. The genre has zero AAA titles speaks volume.
The best thing 9.1 can do is making Torghast optional by putting soul ash drop elsewhere and adding a weekly cap like conquest so you can’t double stack it.
Roguelikes can actually be fun though. When there Is Interesting things to discover. Torghast Is just so people can get soul ash for legendaries. And the only people that enjoy It are people that never played a game outside of WoW
Roguelike/roguelites are a acquired taste - sort of thing applies to many games that have have their big twist based on the difficulty, same with the newer ‘soulslike’ games.
Gunfire Reborn is a neat first person roguelite on steam, that ones been pretty enjoyable.
All they needed to do was reduce it to three floors in each wing to shorten it, but instead they nerfed it to the point that it is now basically trivial to do (but still takes forever). There’s basically no risk of actually dying now. Pretty dumb.
That’s the problem though. “Not bothering” means it’s a bother on Tuesday. A chore. None of this game should have to be a chore. It should be fun.
You didn’t even mention if you play the rest of the week, which a lot of ppl are forgoing now.
I generally don’t like roguelikes but some of them are legit fun. FTL is super fun.
The trick is to not cater to the hardcore dark souls crowd and make a super difficult right outa the gate one that takes more work to do well in vs the amount of fun to come out of it. Instead you add a large amount of variance and depth through choice allowi g the player to determine their own difficulty. This adds longevity to the product while also allowing every player to determine the difficulty they enjoy. Unfortunately this also takes the most amount of work dev side which is why it is usually not done.
Torghast is a ‘Rogue-like’, only in the barest sense possible. There’s so little there people were comparing it to ‘Souls-like’ just a couple weeks ago because it was ‘challenging’.
I’m pretty sure it’s not much of anything except something designed to waste as much player time as possible, with the least amount of dev resources possible, put together in a meeting that didn’t include people who wanted to play games and then passed off to the developers.
