Tldr. I deleted my 13 year old account due to the decline in quality of expansions and the scandal that happened at blizzard a year ago. This is my back up account.
It was late 2020 and I was fed up with Blizzard changes and the whole blitz Chung debacle and the law suit and I ended up deleting my main account that had 13 years worth of achievements like undying/immortal title that i got back in wrath, mage tower skins in legion, transmogs… Mounts, titles that you can’t get anymore.
I know how stupid and immature that is, I have to play every day knowing that the things I lost I can never get back and I have to be okay with that. If I could turn back time and Blizzard could give me my account back I’d be like a little kid in a toy store.
I just dont think I can ever truly enjoy the game again because of what I lost that is entirely my fault. This is just a rant from someone who has been around since wrath…
“ There are more important things in life than winning or losing a game . We live in a changing world, but we need to be reminded that the important things have not changed, and the important things will not change if we keep our priorities in proper order.”
It’s a very harsh lesson but at least you can take this experience with you and try your best not to make rash/emotional decisions in the future.
Anyone will tell you it’s much easier said than done, it’s really tough to not act on impulse but unless you’re in a survival situation it hurts more than helps a lot of the time.
Sleeping on things, talking about what’s on your mind with others (especially people outside of the situation who may be able to offer a different viewpoint), having a run… you need to figure out what helps you best burn off any extra energy and make a clear decision. Could end up being all of the above and more even.
This is a recruit a friend account that I had on back up that I almost forgot about. Which is now my main account after I took almost a two year hiatus.
I’m so confused why you deleted your account though. The only person that hurts is you, Blizz doesn’t care if you delete your account they already got your money.
It’s like setting your car on fire to boycott Ford, the only one who loses in that situation is you.
Are you sure there is absolutely no way to recover it?
I was already frustrated with the quality of battle for azeroth expansion, then the blitz Chung fiasco and at the time I was playing ff14 shadowbringers. I was reading responses on reddit and people were claiming they were deleting their accounts. Shadowlands and the law suit was the tipping point.
Stupid and immature. Something I won’t do again. This was an old recruit a friend account that I had that I forgot about.
I am glad you did it OP, I stuck around, I know we can’t change history, but I think some positives have come out of the whole thing that may be of some interest to you…
See what happened in Shadowlands is that in response to the whole scandal, Blizzard decided to remove emotes like /spit and they then deleted all the pervy flirts that were overly sexualized from the game, and the response from that from the community at the time that knew about it was mostly negative,
But I made many threads trying to argue why people shouldn’t fear the changes they were making, that to me the good thing that came out of the scandals is that this is part of our social evolution, where we realize that saying downgrading things towards women, treating women as sex objects and so on is no longer acceptable,
So I feel that the company did at least make a lot of effort to redeem themselves, many players though felt that they were being blamed for Blizzards actions, but honestly I think by removing rude emotes and pervy flirts and creating a more respectful environment does go a long way to creating a more respectful environment,
I remember many people accusing me of being part of Generation Z and all the rest of it, sadly I did encounter some pretty sexist comments from players in Zereth Mortis earlier today, and I did call it out, but I think if the game itself no longer allows objectifying things to be said about women, its at least the first step to encouraging an environment of mutual respect, that’s just my opinion.
I agree. Blizzard and the community needs to change for the better. There will always be negative people that only wants to degrade others and that needs to stop.
And Blizzard has been making changes for the better, atleast they are trying and I’m happy they are. WOW is my all time favorite game.
At the end of the day. What I lost is just skins and words on a screen. The memories I made in 2008-2022 will always be there. That is what is most important. Other memories will be made going forward.
Actions have consequences. You could have more easily just stopped the subscription and thus deprived them on any more money and still came back if/when you felt they deserved your business again.
Hopefully, at the very least, a good lesson on why being a SJW and being led by your fee fees instead of logic and reasoning is a bad thing and on the bright side, it is doubtful that you had anything you can’t get back that was actually worth it or that will truly be missed. Plus not having a rich account will make it all the easier to quit again if/when you feel Blizzard has, again, failed to live up to your expectations (content or socially).
Honestly, if someone wants to remove their support from a company entirely over social/moral/political issues, that’s NOT inherently a bad thing. If anything, it shows that they value those things over entertainment, which is hard for many to act on.
It gets iffy when people lose sight of reality in making those decisions though. The Blitzchung incident, for example, was like 80% bullcrap on the part of those flinging accusations. It was just an easy target for people already unhappy with Blizzard.
The recent lawsuits, less so. That seems more legitimate.
What I lost was some mounts like tyraels charger, immortal/undying titles from wrath and all 4 ghost of the pridemother tints from legion. That last one hurts me the most. Lol but at the end of the day. I can still raid, pvp and whatever else. I’m working on balance of power artifact skins and other titles I never got on my old account.
