You know what? That’s interesting. I don’t think when I left early TBC, I’ve ever heard that term being used. However, when i came back briefly for one of the xpacs, it was all over the forums.
It was used during vanilla. I remember.
Not completely accurate for a lot of servers, and some of it was patch dependant.
Dead Mines would be DM, which was all well and good, until the advent of another dungeon, named Dire Maul entered into the scene. Which ALSO would be DM. That was more likely than not when most people started calling deadmines “VC” for the final boss rathe than its initials.
It was indeed not the same for every server, servers were to some extent a bit independent in terms of their common phrases and abbreviations. . I was calling it VC way before Dire Maul though. And as people have pointed out, people just call out which wing of Dire Maul they are doing, so it wouldn’t cause confusion to say “LFG DM” between Dire Maul and Dead Mines. No one advertised for a full Dire Maul, all wings clear, unless that was also specified.
I think VC was the original name. It was the first time I saw instances abbreviated. Don’t listen to some of the cats here. They don’t know what they’re taking about. VC was the first instance for many players. It was called VC by players from day one… I would say.
I used to think he said, “At least I got chicken” which made him seem stupider to me.
The first time I heard it I thought he said “at least I ain’t chicken!” Which makes sense.
One time someone responded to me with “kewl”, and I had to ask what that means.
Calling people scrubs was pretty common back then, don’t hear that anymore.
I remember PEBKAC
Not WoW specific, but a fun one all the same. ![]()
Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Computer (Screen) – The User
I used that at work not more than a few weeks ago when explaining to a co-worker why they couldn’t print their email. “Ok, so in order to print to your printer…you have to make sure you have it turned on first…PEBKAC.”
I never understood why people back in the day equated the horde with Islamism, like “zugzug jihad” is kinda messed up m8.
There was also cross-faction communication of the silly sort:
kek (Horde lol as read by Alliance)
go as sd d a p (typed by Alliance) = me love you (read by Horde)
d a p go a zz fff bb a zz (Alliance) = you me one verse one (Horde)I don’t know all the others, but a TBC PomPyro Mage taught me those two while I followed him around as his pocket healer.
and anyone caught doing this, was insta banned. i would NOT recommend this. breaking the faction lingo barrier, is VERY frowned upon by blizzard.
to op; mine was always ‘Yolo!’ kind of like jenkins. gonna keep it that way too lol.
So the quest was to bring the head of Edwin Van Cleef so people started saying “LFG VC” before anyone really knew what deadmines was.
its clearly BOOM HEADSHOT
leet damagez!

It annoys to me no end to see people trying to form groups for The Deadmines as DM in chat instead of VC. I always respond that Dire Maul is on the other continent every time I see it since never once the year and a half that I played Vanilla did I see it referred to as DM.
tilts head You’ve seen people trying to form groups in chat, for Deadmines, not in “Vanilla”?
