Remembering the lingo of Vanilla

14 years is a long time, enough time for a lot of stuff to change. And, since it was the Bush years around '04 for when the game came out, I feel very “tongue in cheek” thinking about how simply dumb the lingo was back then.

Players naming themselves Paynetrayn and Noobeater and Xxphastomxx.

And, with no SJWs in them Bush years of WoW, guilds with names like “Zug Zug Jihad”… which I don’t think Blizzard today would allow.

What is some silliness y’all remember?

What I remember about ‘Vanilla’ Warcraft, were people ganking me every five seconds. Camping my corpses. Cussing me out (no language filters) and non stop bullying / harassing behavior.

Can’t wait to go back to Classic!

I know this is still sort of used but 1337 was a massive meme back then and actually used to describe people. I don’t even think meme was a word back then now that I think about it haha.

I have quite a few memories of lingo used back then that seems to have gone extinct .

People used to always end group requests posted in chat with pst. I remember opening a treasure chest in Westfall and a player nearby said “zomg you are greedy” I thought he was talking to someone else standing around who was named Zomg. It wasn’t until hours later that I realized he was talking to me.

I remember spelling words like the with intentional typos like “teh”.

People would also abbreviate please to plz

I also remember frequent references to beep beep I’m a Jeep.

haha i still use pwn, uber was another good one. More of a phrase but use to run around with a buddy and ‘yell’ in chat, “HKs ALL DAY!!” As were mercilessly ganked in STV.

I brought some old SC terms to WoW like Gosu and Hasu- used to describe pro players who mastered their champion. But back then these terms were not used ironically, we only labeled people as good if they were good. Things are different now. Everything’s a desperate joke
