Religious Selectivity in WoW

I am a Pagan - a Second Degree Priest and Witch in the Braided Wheel Tradition, a Wiccan Tradition based in the U,S. Northeast with some members in Texas. We worship the God and Goddess and revere the Earth. We endeavor to harm none in our actions. We are not evil nor are we adults only. There are many Pagan families in the U.S. (and around the world) practicing Wicca, Druidism, Reclaiming, Norse, and many other forms of worship. We are as valid as Christians in society.

So why are the words “Pagan” and “Wicca” considered “adult” and not permitted as Community names in WoW? I tried searching for the Pagan community in WoW and when I saw none, tried to create one. It was then that I found the words for my religion are banned by Blizzard for Community names.

There is a guild called “Pagans” so there is a double-standard when it comes to Guild names and Community names.

I dug a little deeper. I searched for “Jewish”, “Muslim”, and “Hindu” and found no Communities in WoiW. I then searched for “Christ”. I found two communities.

Blizzard is biased towards Christians. There is no reason there shouldn’t b Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and Pagan communities in WoW. I would appreciate someone from Blizzard explaining this bias to me. Either Pagan (and other religious) Communities should ve permitted, or the two Christian communities should be removed. It is unfair that Christians get a benefit that I do not as a Pagan. It is religious bias.

So communities are formed by players right? O.o

Probably because they’re considered titles and titles aren’t allowed as names.

That seems fair to me. I don’t think any real world religious communities should be formed within World of Warcraft. Its a fantasy game, and should stay that way.

Do they allow political communities? I’ve never looked but would be interesting to know.

Straps in.

Grabs popcorn.

That doesn’t make any sense. Communities are formed by players so just form a community while being mindful of what it is called.

Did you say “Wiccan?”

He’s a pretty nice guy on the forums here, leaving four leaf clovers everywhere!

Christ isn’t a name either. It’s a word that means messiah. Jesus Christ’s real name was Yeshua or Joshua/Jesus. Christ comes from Greek, Christos (anointed). It means “The anointed one, Jesus.”

Do you mean guilds?

I laughed.

I’m sorry, I need some popcorn

Where are we going? OP didn’t say anything that isn’t true.

I love Seiðr, it’s a really ancient Paganism being reclaimed today.

The reason Christian is accepted is probably because Christian is also a name.

Not just a religion. So their system of figuring names may overlook that.

As for religion ingame, I don’t think RL religion has a place here, at all.
That’s why in lore they always talk about “the Light”.

It would get confusing also, if RL religions were added/allowed ingame, too because this game has old gods, etc…

Anyway, that’s my thoughts for what it’s worth.

  • As for communities, not sure what that entails but if it’s player made, it shouldn’t matter what they name it or what it’s about providing it’s not horrendously offensive.
So those shouldn’t be removed and you should be able to make your own as well.

Wut? A religion? No.

We’re just a congregation of like minded people named Christian.

Thus Christianity was born!

That’s what happened to the Bobs. They all got together and now, they’re everywhere.

Then, they should remove “LGBT only” guilds aswell.

Remove everything so that we can ascend to our true form. The amorphous grey blob.

Buit I can’t name the community with the name of my religion. Why should I be “mindful” of harmless words? The fact Blizzard considers “Pagan” and “Wiccan” as Adult and banned is offensive to me.

My religion is real and as valid as Christianity. I am offended by your comment.
