As the topic says, server locking people that are outside of that servers region, stops new bots from coming in, and start transfering people off that break ToS and arent in our region.
ToS as in Gold selling, Gold Buying, And botting.
I’m going to assume you’re not really all that familiar with how bots work. They can easily get around a “region lock”.

They also don’t know mlitary/gov has a lot of their US customers who spend at least 3 years overseas. so that is lost business.
In the case of OCE there is only 1 pve server. If they don’t like it…guess what they do. If you said roll on US…you get 1 point.

VPN’s dont really do anything besides at a layer of legality to your internet. Company A Subpoenas the server your currently in and finds you through your IP at the VPN, also your accessing the Blizzard servers, they could just hardware ban you, and block VPN’s.
A good portion of our raiders are South American and they rock the meters every raid night.
And as stated, people who break ToS will continue to break ToS.

Depends on where the company is located, a lot of countries they run these vpns out of would laugh that subpoena off.
if you think is that simple go ahead make a patent to this and sell to every streaming platform. You’ll be rich in no time
you cant patent something thats already in practice for the vast majority of gaming companies.
good for you? and people that break TOS get suspended or a ban for 6 months, also this isnt one sided. if i wanted to go to a russian server, id be server locked, because i dont have a character over there.
You do realize people have legitimately played on regions outside their own for years right?
Sure lets cut off people like Sloot who played in EU from Canada for years (has restarted in NA again recently)
Or people who are overseas temporarily for work.
Lost Ark is region locked and they just banned VPNs, still has a ton of bots, solved nothing but making people mad.

There’s legitimate reasons people play from outside of their region, region locking doesn’t even do anything.
Preventing character creation would only serve to piss people off.
Its them there foreigners ruining the game with bad stuff.

Not an effective strategy, you can still work out approximate location because they literally have your software installed (game client). If you want to play a game and software installation is required then you simply aren’t hiding your location.

This is the company when you put in a customer service ticket…they will ask have you checked wowhead or other sites for an answer. They literally tell you to find your answer somewhere else. As they cba to build up their own internal tech database it seems.
With a barebones CS setup like this…they won’t be putting in the network engineers to trace and burn vpn tunnels.
Netflix does this. they have staff to the point if you got a week from your settings…you got a damned good run there. I was resetting tunnels 2-3 times a week in the past. I tired of that game and just use JDM netflix.
also…M$ is coming. they don’t care about outside connections. they in fact foster it. My xbox on a pure japanese connection has the same access as a US one does to the US store.
M$ understands they have many US peoples overseas. Cutting off several 10’s of thousands US service members, their families, DOD civilians and their families who support them is not good for business.
Nor do they want to play vpn tunnel burning games. Now they’d be paying more money in staffing to in time lose customers. More vpn’s cut off…more game pass subs and straight up game buys not in game pass that die you see.
If you cant use it…you turn that off really.
