I work in Product Development and Product Marketing… so I’m speaking here as both a professional and a player.
I’m aghast at how bad the devs have @#$^ the bed with the class this expansion.
We have zero mobility. And our feather isn’t mobility, it’s 40%, it’s pathetic.
It’s like the devs gave everyone else a Ferrari or a Maserati, and then it’s like they forgot we were coming to the party and gave us a kick scooter they found in the garage to play with.
It’s insanely unbalanced, it reeks of poor game design and either:
A lack of comprehensive knowledge on how our class works.
No one on the dev team plays priest as a healer in the day-to-day
We have no advocate for the Priest class, or our priest advocate on the product/dev team is completely cowed.
This also stands in stark contrast to a class, like DKs who, apparently, can just chain death grip you over and over and over until the heat death of the Universe. And you have no escape. Zero. Well there was ONE way… Shackle Undead…
Oh but now shackle undead is a talent (A braindead decision that baffles the mind and bloats the talent tree), so you can’t even trick DKs and countering them for 3s.
It seems like the devs straight-up just hate the Priest class. I took a 3 year break from this game hoping things would turn around, but my goodness… this isn’t just a balance or time issue, it’s a very clear communication from the devs that they simply do NOT care about our class, do not care about our feedback, and do not care to change anything.
I have played this class since release and I honestly can’t believe how they treat us.
Same. I came back because my friends say the game is so good but I’m hobbling around with my kneecaps blown out and I literally need to be babycarried by an Evoker in fights.
The Evoker also blows my healing output out of the water depending on the fight if I just have to run around lol. I’m putting so much effort in and getting so little out with this class its just burning me out early.
What’s ironic is that in MoP I can definitively remember placing feathers on the ground to SUPPORT my teammates even as shadow to help them move around quickly because both Feather was really good at 80% speed boost and many classes didn’t have the level of speed increases then as they do now.
Thok in SoO comes to mind to use both Feather and Leap of Faith to help move people around.
Now fast forward to current day and now Feather is basically wasted on anyone else because they have a superior form of speed increase and so we use it on ourselves because we lack compared to everyone else which alongside Leap of Faith seems to have the same nigh useless treatment.
So since then the support we offered to other classes has done a 180 and now instead of Priest being a SUPPORTNIG class, we are now the class that NEEDS support!
What a great point Aneurysm. It wouldn’t even require a rework to increase angelic feather to 80%. They should absolutely do that while we wait 5 years for the class design to be finished. It would be like a soothing change to that slightly less obnoxious elevator music you hear in a fancy waiting room instead of a cheap elevator.
Demonic Circle does not have infinite range and that “as long as the warlock has previously been there” is a pretty big deal, especially if that place now has bad on the floor or someone with a debuff standing on it.
This isn’t to take away from priests needing more mobility, I think they should be more mobile. I just wanted to correct the demonic circle statement.
Fair enough. I forgot that it had a range since it’s been a long time since I played a warlock. 40 yards on a 30 second cooldown is in line with Blizzard’s ~20 yards for 15 seconds of cooldown average.
I brought that up during the alpha/beta cycle here…
Kleia specializes in melee combat, not afraid to face her challenges toe to toe. As an ascended Kyrian, she is able to leap great distances with her wings and channel the Archon’s Gift to greatly empower her attacks.
I mostly want Door of Shadows specifically because I think it would be thematic, but a divine version of Heroic Leap would also be thematic as well.
That and IIRC you could circumvent dungeon obstacles with door of shadows before Blizzard went ‘Fun detected’ at it, but that might be a schizophrenic memory.
Door of Shadows would only be thematic to Shadow Priests. And even then, it’s vampiric in theme due to being from Revendreth. Are Shadow Priests even very vampiric themed anymore other than a couple spells? Are they void themed now? Who knows!
Door of Shadows could get a glyph to change it to a holy theme, but it would still be called Door of Shadows regardless. That’s my biggest issue with it, right next to the fact that people conveniently seem to forget the spell has a cast time— which is silly.
Also, unless I’m mistaken, Door of Shadows- if given to Priests would be the only covenant ability that was once used by every class in the game. Mindgames was the “Priest only” spell from Revendreth. My point being, we lose some uniqueness points for that, and the fact is— this spell would be uncreatively rehashed onto Priests in general instead of giving us something shiny and new for once.
I’m not sure about specifically circumventing dungeon obstacles, but I know with Door of Shadows you were able to put the target reticle over obstacles in the world and get around them easier. Kind of like cheesing the obstacle, like getting over rocks or chasms or whatever.
I want to let you know you can do this exact same thing with Warrior’s Heroic Leap right now too lol. So, if the hypothetical Angel Wings ability that might work like Heroic Leap was added, you could assume it would do that as well.
See the Kyrian helper spell that gave you a healing tonic potion with 3 charges that also removed or made you immune to additional effects…
Let me find it…
Kyrian Covenant Signature Ability Call your steward to bring you a Phial of Serenity that can be consumed to restore 20% of your health and remove all Curse, Disease, Poison, and Bleed Effects. Your Steward additionally offers access to a selection of useful amenities for 4 min.
Now let’s look at the version that made it into a class…
Bitter Immunity
Instant 3 min cooldown
Restores 20% health instantly and removes all diseases, poisons and curses affecting you.
Warrior class tree for reference.
Not so sure about that.
Recently when I played my warrior, I received a lot of “No path detected” message trying to leap up or onto a hill/ledge that I know I could in the past but suddenly unable to do anymore.
Edit:
Actually, I’m a bit shocked that the Necrolord absorb shield didn’t make it in the talent trees somewhere. Either in the class tree for Death Knights or Blood? Seems to be quite fitting regardless. Perhaps they would seem a bit OP?
I dunno I want my night fae blink. Seems thematic to elune priests and worgen priests. Probably anything that worships the woods, like some blood/high elves too.
