Refund Denied + Bait and Switch Pricing

I was offered the sale price of $48.99 for CoD MW3 as a “special offer” through my battle.net client. I purchased the game as I felt this wasn’t a great price but probably the best price I’d see in the next few months. So I purchased the game at the “special offer.”

Wrong. The checkout page defaulted to the $69.99 and I didn’t catch this - my fault for working while handling these sort of things. I noted the overcharge and attempted to refund the purchase as I hadn’t booted it up and this would be the fastest way to get back the funds and grab the sales price.

Wrong again. A chat violation in Overwatch 2 is considered a breach of ToS/CoC and voids you from being allowed a refund for MW3. Not sure how those mental gymnastics work since they are okay with taking your money with said violation on your account.

I opened a ticket to dispute not being allowed a refund: Told I had a violation and blah, blah, blah. So I replied asking if they could at least refund the price difference between my “special pricing” and the price I paid: Told again that this is out of their hands and sales are final. More blah, blah, blah that support teams do.

My final option is to dispute the transaction with my bank as this is theft in my eyes. Odds are it will be charged back as this is a new bank account that I’ve never used with Bnet before. However, I’m hesitant to do such an action as my Bnet account is from 2004 and I risk losing everything associated on my account. I have a ticket pending asking what could happen, but given the treatment I’ve suffered so far - they will be less than helpful.

The whole reason for this post is to show the poor practices in play with Bnet. They use bait-and-switch pricing and then tell you “lol, you’re at fault - good luck!” Then, if you have a violation in any game for any reason, you aren’t even allowed to get a refund. You get hit with a 1-2 combo of overcharged and unable to refund. GG.

Glad to see Bnet values self over customer and can’t be bothered to correct a $20 overcharge. They stand to lose more money as this has lost all of my trust in this company.

Also: WoW related as this caused me to cancel my subscription, not pre-purchase the new expansion, and uninstall all related Bnet products. Your company is untrustworthy and won’t see another dime from me. Player since 2004 with 18+ pages of services purchased for this game - that’s a good customer saying adios.

Welcome to Customer Support, not to be confused with Customer Service. Posting here really won’t don’t anything, I’m afraid, as it is only a forum for players to assist other players. Nothing can or will be done for you here as there are no GMs or any other staff (beyond our SFAs) come here. The message you’re trying to convey to the staff is never going to be seen by them, I’m afraid. At most, perhaps one of our SFAs sees something ticket-side they can offer advice on (if there is a misunderstanding, as can sometimes happen), but it’s not guaranteed that one will pop in here.

If you are displeased with how things have worked out, then please make use of the survey you’ll receive when tickets get closed out.

Normally, I would point someone to an appropriate forum to post in, but there really aren’t any for this. I will instead ask that you make use of the in-game suggestion and feedback tool so that the proper staff can see it as I’ve got a feeling this will be locked up or 404’d as again, it’s not really appropriate here.

Not interested in wasting more time. I easily can afford the $20 hit but choose to dispute this all based on the ethics behind it.

This has become standard for Bnet and I will no longer continue funding this cash grab of a company with terrible customer service. Easy to tell they value shareholder more than the customer.

I am not asking for any additional support/help/etc. Just posting my very unpleasant ordeal and the shady practices that brought me to this point.

Odds are someone else will find themselves searching these boards and see this and realize “oh, maybe I shouldn’t invest my resources on this company.”

If you want to give feedback, it’s be better suited outside of the CS forum, ranting isn’t what this form is for, let along when it’s something one should double check.

More on that matter, folks ain’t going to read/look for such before investing into game like this. Not sure why that’d be a factor.

Could it be the check out price was correct for the item selected in the manner it was selected, and in your haste (or distraction we all get at work) that was the error? I don’t play any of the CoDs, so I have no idea, personally.

I didn’t realize this. If you haven’t installed the game or used it in any way, and you reported right after purchase, I’d try making another ticket and explain. If you haven’t received exceptions for automatic refunds in the past, they may be willing to take another look?

A chargeback on your battlenet will effect everything, I believe. It freezes up the whole thing until funds are returned.

That, because of how billing and credit card/banking rules work, won’t be an option. It’s all or nothing.

If you are truly done with all things battle net, and truly believe you were defrauded, then that’s exactly what chargebacks are for. We can’t know for certain what did or didn’t happen. Only you and Bliz know that. I generally don’t encourage chargebacks, because there’s often more to it (not calling you a liar at all! There’s just a lot of info in that post), and recovering your bnet from a chargeback will be a pain, should you chose to return someday. Regardless, I hope things work out for you.

There are just a smattering of cases. So it’s not all about a “cash grab” by any means.

The refund was denied because you broke the rules and that made you ineligible. Those are the terms and conditions you agreed to. Let’s not muddy this up anymore than that.

Everything I have seen says the 48.99 sale price is for PS5 only.

Edit: Now I’ve seeing a different post that the special price is only if you’ve bought Modern Warfare 1 & 2. It’s also possible the deal ended before you purchased it.

Yes, it is their product and all digital sales are generally deemed final. They bend over backwards to provide refunds where a person may be eligible, but having black marks on the account could definitely affect eligibility.

This juvenile attempt at bashing other Blizzard customers is not allowed.

But I just have to ask, you wanted to waste resources on that same “soulless company” sometime in the last couple days. So let’s not pretend you have some moral high ground. Those accusations have been around for many years in the past, and you still shoveled money to them.

I’m sorry to hear about the troubles, Moriorum. I’m not sure why you were unable to get the special offer after it was provided. Nor the trouble in requesting a refund if you otherwise qualify.

Usually the penalty restriction is for the game you are attempting to refund, not another. It looks like you have a ticket open so I’ll let that play out.

Also, I understand the frustration but let’s keep things civil.
