Recruit a friend accounts not linked

I purchased WOW and sent recruit a friend links to two people. I was there when the links were sent to both. One recruit a friend worked. The other did not. I put in a ticket and help was refused. If I cannot get the recruit a friend my brand new friend player will likely walk away. Both the link and game code were generated right around the same time. I can send e-mail receipts. I can probably pull the website cache log. If no I really would like a manager this time to call me. I don’t care if they cannot help me. I want a refund for the item that cannot be used as purchased, or I want it to work. Please help me this time.

Could you clarify what you mean by this? Was the account created more than 7 days ago or has it had game time on it in the past 12 months? Those are the two main factors that will prevent an account from being linked.

They don’t do that. Tickets are the only option currently for one-on-one with the GM team.

If your friend’s account doesn’t qualify for the link and you still want to pursue a refund, you can do that via the self-help option for refunds in the support section of the site.

But first, let’s see if we can’t figure out why the account won’t link.

I did both between Christmas and the New Year. If it was over a week it wasn’t by much. I generated the link and e-mailed it. Both put that in the browser and then got the download link. I then had them both open the link and trigger it. I sent the gift purchases of WOW to both. They entered the code. One had internet problems that I couldn’t resolve until I returned (yesterday). He was then able to download the game. It was then that we learned for some reason the account didn’t link like my sons did. Even though it was done in the exact same way.

Did your recruit try using the link again to see if it would work?

Seeing that it’s the 6th of January now, if your friend did create their account more than 7 days ago, it’s not likely going to link. Even if their account was only 8 days old, the link won’t work. It’s hard-coded for 7 days in the system and unfortunately, that’s not something that a GM can bypass.

To be clear, it shouldn’t have mattered when they downloaded the game, just the date of when they created their WoW account online.

Are you positive that the link didn’t work too? I’m assuming that it’s not showing as linked when you go to the Recruit a Friend window in-game.

I had him log into my computer before he created his first toon or log in. I had him open the link from my computer after signing all the way out and then signing all the way in… it recruited my own account to my account

I don’t think that’s possible unless you also created a new WoW account.

Your friend didn’t try to make an account under your battle.net by accident did they? They should have an account under their own e-mail with their name etc. attached to the account.

So when you logged all the way out of the launcher, did your friend enter their email and log into their account?

Correct and a GM responded (hence why I’m in the forums). They said something about the days they were generated but that was unclear. I know 100% they were generated and responded to in a short order.

I see Vrakthris typing a reply. Hopefully, he can shed a little light on the issue for you.

Thanks Fanum. I do try! As a fellow player, there’s only so much I can do to try and problem-solve these sorts of things.

I also have every recruit a friend mount (I think). It’s why I was surprised. I’m very much used to it just working.

I’m sorry, Fanum, but help was not exactly refused, it is simply that we are not able to assist in this situation. With the way the Recruit a Friend system works, our staff is unable to manually link accounts.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter how far over the 7 days it may have been, once the 7 days is up the link cannot be formed.

Indeed, the Recruit a Friend link appears to have created a new Starter Edition, WoW#2.

If you are seeking a refund, you’ll want to submit the request through the site. We have an automated system and if the purchase qualifies, should automatically process. For games and expansions, you may request within 14 days, but there is a 2 hours played limit. If it does not qualify for a refund, you can submit a ticket and have the situation reviewed.

I am sorry I cannot help resolve the issue, Fanum.

How long does that take? Because if I knew for sure I would just do it right now. Especially while I have such kind people helping me. Then I would just wait for the refund however long that takes. What I don’t want to do is buy an extra copy, and then get stuck with that.

If you mean the refund, if you qualify through the automated system, it should process right away but may take a few days for your bank to process too (which is pretty standard).

If it requires a ticket, it will depend on how long the queue is currently. For refunds requests, they usually make their decision fairly quickly though.

What you could do, if they can refund you, then you could have your friend make a new WoW account and you should be able to link that new account. It can be under the same battle.net email, just has to be a new account.

You can follow this link to try the refund option:

Because then not only would I have an upset person on the spectrum who cannot play and level with my son as they want AND I’ll have an extra game. This is less than desirable ><.

So I guess two things? How can I see how long ago I purchased it, and they started their toon last night. I don’t know if they went past two hours. It’s likely very close.

With the self-help option, it usually goes through fairly quickly. If you need to submit a ticket, at current queue times, that will take a couple of days.

The refund process will let you know right away if you qualify or if you need to put in a ticket.

You can look at your transaction history to see when it was purchased. I believe it was the 29th of December.

For played time, from a quick glance it looks like it may still be under 2 hours. So they definitely want to stay off of the account while you put your request in but as Perl said, the self-help option should let you know right away if you qualify or not.

I feel like I am in a timed dungeon right now LMAO… Uh uh… what button. Where. I lost my slow fall. TLPD has too high of a kill ratio from falling deaths. AHHH… that is what being triggered looks like. Let me try to find this. If I do this, no issues, refund starts happening, and I get them on the line can yall hold tight so I can make sure this happens correctly (the linking).
