Recovering old account + merging it

With Classic coming out next year I’ve finally decided to give recovering my old account one last shot.

Here’s the deal. This is only my 2nd account. I originally had an account back during Vanilla, up until the end of Wrath (with a little dabbling in Cataclysm). I had acquired some nice things, including the silver/teal Judgement armor set from the pre-patch for Wrath, as well as the Blood Guard PvP rank on my first character, and the accompanying armor set from it as well.
These are all things I would like to have back, but there’s a problem. A very big problem.

An older friend of mine was the one who set me up with a World of Warcraft account back during Vanilla. I was upset because I’d lost everything in another game, and he made me the account as a surprise.
That’s a nice gesture, except when he created it he created it under my online username’s name.
I didn’t find out about this until many years later, when I tried to come back to WoW during Cataclysm. By then, RealID became a thing, and I found out my account was not in fact under my real name, but a fake online name.

I was so upset, I closed the account down and made a new one (the one I have here). I’ve used this account ever since, but I always thought about trying to see if I could recover my old account and perhaps merge it with this one.

But there’s another problem. Last year or so I tried getting it back. But I don’t remember the password, and after trying a few (failed) attempts it locked me out and asked me to check an email sent to the account’s address. But that’s the problem… I CLOSED both the old email accounts a long time ago, I had no way to check that email!

So, I’m stuck. I can either just deal with the fact I’ll never get my old Classic account back, or finally break down and ask customer support.

I have some small proof that IS my account. I can give the names/class/race of some of my old characters, I have only ONE photo taken during Burning Crusade still on my hard drive, but that’s it.

So what should I do? Should I open a ticket with customer support? Can anything even BE done, considering the name doesn’t match this account and the emails I once used for it have long since been closed?

Edit: I can also supply the names of both the email accounts attributed to my old WoW account. The original I used, and the one I changed it to during Cataclysm.

You make this sound like it’s something awful to do. Asking support is about your only option right now. Unfortunately, it’s going to be an uphill battle due to it not actually being in your name.

There are some limited circumstances where they can help, such as when the name chosen is clearly made up. But if the name used is a real name, it may not be recoverable :frowning:

Reach out to them –>here<–.

I’d suggest Live Chat and be prepared to provide ID as well.

Best of luck!

Oh I didn’t mean to make it sound that way.

Yes the name my friend made the account for me is a fake name, it’s literally the name of a fish.

I’ll try to contact them, and I’ll be ready for the uphill struggle. In the end, if I can’t get it back then… well, I’ll have tried.

Try this:

If you are trying to recover an account and are unable to recall the account name, or reset your password, submit a ticket. During business hours you should have the option to use Live Chat or request a call back in some situations.

Recover email address

If you can find the original CD keys used to open that account, that may be helpful.

Regarding the merge of two accounts…
If the old wow license was never part of a battle.net account, it can be added to an existing or new battle.net account as a separate wow license.

If the old license was on a battle.net account however, it cannot be added to a different battle.net account.
