Receiving Spam Mails

I received a spam mail from a discord called HiveWoW (I will edit this out after 5 minutes just in case). It has a copper attached, which we know is even more suspicious. I reported it. I don’t recall, but is there any way to block these? Also, my options are reply, return or close. I would like to delete it so I don’t accidentally open it. Or is it ok to get rich off the big bad copper? :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks all, Happy Saturday!!

Because there is now Discord integration for Guild chat I want to clarify that the invite is from another player who links a discord invite. Just to avoid any confusion for anyone reading this.

You should be able to report it as spam if you want, Kaleberry. I can’t say for certain if they are legitimate players, but it definitely is sus.

If you report it as spam it should place that user on a temporary ignore, which will hide the mail from you for that play session. The mail will become visible again the next time you log in, so you can safely delete it if you wish.

Noooo, I accidentally collected it! Couldn’t delete it because it had the 1 copper attachment, so I was trying to wait out the month for it to slip into the nether. I am now guilty of getting rich from possible RMT! :exploding_head: Seriously tho, I did report them when I received the mail initially. So all is ok, right? :eyes: Feeling paranoid

So you don’t need to worry about RMT for 1c. While nobody outside of the Hacks team knows the thresholds they look at, it’s certainly much higher than 1c. While I would certainly avoid responding or interacting with the email, one of the reasons they put 1c on letters is to force people to have to actually go into them, since it prevents them from being easily deleted.

Concerning message like this, you should be good, unless there was a significant amount of gold on it. Now if you do accidentally accept a larger amount of gold, your best option is open a ticket and report it, then make sure not to touch it if possible, until bliz gets back to you, or a few months go by.

I got the same scam on my main account a week or two ago. I know I didn’t collect it, since I’d seen a thread on the practice of sending unsolicited illegal gold. I’m pretty sure I was able to report and delete it without collecting the 1c. I only get mail from the AH and before I saw that thread, I would just click the button to collect everything, but now I scroll through all the messages to make sure they are all form the AH. It’s tedious, but I’m not risking my account over 1c.

With all due respect, I don’t think that’s good advice. Whether it’s 1 copper or 1 million gold, receiving illegally acquired currency is a bannable offense. DO NOT open any game mail and collect currency from an unknown source or you are risking the potential loss of your WoW license.

I don’t think there is a minimum amount to be safe from if accidently withdrawing it. Honestly, I do think the best option is to report that also to the hacks team, and be sure to let them know you’ve accidently withdrew some of the attachments, and the exact amount that you withdrew.

I think you’re fine, Kaleberry. We understand that a lot of these invites often include a single copper. Collecting that isn’t likely to raise any red flags. Now if you collect 100,000 letters with a single copper, that might be another matter… but that sounds tedious for everyone involved to do.

Make sure you get yourselves the mail addon and set it to not receive mail from toons below a certain level.
