Reasons why Dragonflight is boring - Discussion

Didn’t said orphan fill in his mother’s crown?

Mind you, don’t know how forest politics work in Bambi, but I’m pretty certain Bambi becomes King of the Forest as an adult.

the story wasn’t too dark in Shadowlands it was too disjointed and terrible. Big difference.

if a PG-13 movie can drop one F bomb, then for the love of god they can write the story a lot more visceral

OP forgot it’s rep grinding focused, renown was easier in to get in Shadowlands.

DFs story could be interesting if they didn’t write like they’re trying to pander to everyone. There’s no rough edges any more, just talk-no-jitsu bs right out the butt. Even vaguely interesting stuff like Baine’s hatred of centaurs is sanded away in one freaking questline.

I never thought I’d miss Nathanos, champion simp of Sylvanas, but good lord I actually miss his rather biting dialogue. Everyone really is too starry-eyed. Hell I’m almost starting to miss the darker aspects of SL and that is just depressing.

this is what happens when everyone is offended by something, you end up with limited stories and you end up with no way to write compelling character arcs because someone might be mad for more than a day and tell all their friends to hate as well.

It is Activision Fruitbowl…I would’ve said B*izzard but you never know if someone lost their family to a bad snowstorm and I wouldn’t want to offend.

My friends and I are starting to get bored and unsub. We might come back later, but maybe not until 10.2 or next xpac. Here’s our driving factors:

  • Spending hours each week doing PvE content just to hope you get a useful/needed item in the vault on Tuesday is the most boring, frustrating content ever. We don’t want to RNG gamba every week on progressing our characters. We don’t mind doing the content, but we need more deterministic gearing for trinket and tier slots for those of us who don’t do split runs, clear 2 modes of the raid each week and run 8+ 20 M+'s. I’m annoyed that they had this figured out in like 2007 with the valor vendors, and then removed it just to try to keep players hooked/subbed longer.
  • Raids have much better “carrot” items… like some of the raid trinkets are a massive gain over what you can craft or get in M+. As a primarily M+ player, I don’t want to raid every week for a small chance at my BiS M+ trinkets. Clearing the same raid every week after you did it a few times is SO BORING.
  • Getting rid of the seasonal M+ affix was fine, but the weekly affix rotation is still boring and lazy. There should not be “dead” weeks where you don’t want to play because of affixes.
  • Class balance is better than it’s been in recent history, but still not good enough. Talent trees are half baked and boring because there’s barely any actual decisions to be made outside of moving around 3 or 4 talent points. Do you want to play meta build A or meta build B? Oh you don’t want to play those builds? Well, you’ll do 20% less DPS then, and no one at high end will want to play with you.
  • Having the story content drip-fed through weekly lockouts or renown gates makes it so you lose whatever little interest you had in the questing.
  • Open world content is always designed to be not required for high end players, which results in it being totally uninteresting or not useful. This directly detracts from creating a community through world-building and natural random interactions with other players. It feels like they took a 10 minute look at Guild Wars 2 and then said “oh yes random events we should make them” and then made the worst version of that for 10.1.0 caves.

That being said, I did have a lot of fun with this xpac and don’t think it’s all bad… the current endgame design is just not interesting enough to keep our subs running.

This is a huge aspect for me. I raid and do m+, but I also dabble in the open world stuff. This expansion, I’ve simply given up on it. They keep releasing these different open world area invasions. Kill mobs, fill bar, kill boss. Another one is coming in 10.1.5. It doesn’t even feel worth it to check it out due to how variable these things can be.

You can show up and 10 people are there, pacing feels good, etc. Or you can show up and there is only 1 other person there, and it just feels horrible. These “bosses” or rares they keep adding with millions of HP get so droll. The rares from the 10.0 elemental invasions that would spawn and quite literally take 5-8 minutes WITH people around? Horrible.

The time way events coming in 10.1.5 look neat. Go back and kill the LK or illidan… but without enough people, it just looks like a waste of time/not even possible.

Blizz either needs to give up on designing open world invasions having 30 people there at all times, or develop a more sophisticated sharding system that guarantees plenty of people there.

I’m glad someone else feels the same way. It’s crazy so many casuals on these forums complain about the world content in WoW when there is a perfectly good game with exactly what they want and probably refuse to play it. WoW’s world content is such a joke compared to GW2. In WoW the events they added in ZC are basically just limited time world quests. Even the ones in at DF launch (soup and keep siege) were better than these ZC events, and those still suck compared to other games. WoW can not even do big events on a timer like GW2 even if they wanted to because the servers would lag. Just the soup event at launch lagged the entire zone, and you barely even do anything in that event besides press a button every like 30 seconds. It’s ridiculous how a company with many times the budget can not even properly COPY what another game is doing with low budget.

I guess its a good thing the Pocket Anvil is bugged for DHs, one less thing to worry about! (Unless you also meant Beacon  )

I don’t necessarily disagree with any of your points, just wanted to mention once again in case some dev reads this, that the trinket continues to be bugged for our class 6+ weeks into 10.1.

Altho…

In the past when overworld content was required for high end players, there was much complaining about the game being a chore instead of a fun escape from RL. Pretty sure this is why now the overworld content is irrelevant.

DF lacks the Warcraft feel. The story and theme just feel pretty generic. I think the remaining player base is just sticking around because the devs brought back talent trees and players are being showered in cosmetics now.

The content and story is just boring.

I could forgive the boring story and over the top art style, if Blizz innovated and actually added something to endgame other than M+ and raiding

I think 10.0 was good there was alot to do M+ dungeons was ok, but after that it went down the hill

The biggest reason it’s boring IMHO is it’s just another iteration of the same formula. And, from Ion’s interviews, the team seems content to keep that same formulaic approach without realizing that maybe, just maybe, the whole 4 zones/8 dungeons/1 raid/M+ season stuff is the root problem with the game’s stagnation.

I find it incredibly odd how nobody ever asks them about bringing back the RPG elements, or the exploration, or basically anything that’s not focused around raids/M+ and the occasional crying about class balance.

I hate it too. To many voice over work about feelings like a child.

The game is extremely alt friendly lol. The only way it could be more is by literally mailing all your toons gear equal to your main lol.

Also the crafting system is extremely relevant except at the very tail end of a patch.

Its also so petty to make a post about why probably the best expansion since legion is boring lol

Low bar to hit considering half of Legion was complete trash lol.

Legion was the best expansion possibly ever if you get past the fan geeking over the lich king.
