Rearranging and Removing Portals

While this is a solution to a problem that shouldn’t exist, people will be upset if they have to grind another rep for a way to get somewhere they were able to get in the first place. You can get to CoT if you have rep, but who has time to grind rep on alts? Especially MoP ones where it’s just dailies. :frowning:

Hurdles. Thats a really good choice of words.
Its almost as if they think we’re too stupid to figure out why the portals were removed.
No one is silly enough to actually believe this ‘bigger’ world nonsense.
We all know it was to put ‘hurdles’ in our path to old content so they could railroad us into BfA.
Ain’t happening.
It was their choice to make BfA suck, not ours, and Im not going to be forced to play bad content.
Far too many other games out there to play to remotely feel limited to a game where the devs and company are determined to drag out game time and dont care at all about the actual player base.

I mentioned before that they ARE watching this thread. Dont think otherwise.
And they proved it to me just a bit ago by doing exactly what I figured they’d do.
And then they have the audacity to put the blame on the community here for their controlling ways.

If they were watching this thread they’d know everyone here wants a response. No response is WORSE than a crappy response.

Silence can be a dangerous thing. As people can interpret silence in bad ways. Sometimes saying you’re working on things and don’t have a definite time frame can be better than simply saying nothing at all.

Good, if are watching this thread then they know they have solutions to solve the problem so why hide. Are they really that afraid of this community they included built?

Absolutely! I am flabbergasted that they think silence is okay. Sure, this thread was a direct response to the then 5k posts, now even more, and 8k more here. Does that excuse the silence still? Not even close. Just tell us if we’re going to get what the community overwhelmingly wants or if they are going to give us the shaft again.

Saying they didn’t consider it would be the generous interpretation.

The less generous interpretation is that this was all done quite deliberately to lengthen those new quests. Gotta make the world feel bigger, after all.

My theory - and it is just a theory based on Blizzard’s behavior - is that the faction hubs are considered part of the “current expansion” metrics. So by funneling everyone to two cities and making sure amenities players use every day are consolidated in those cities (you can find SOME things elsewhere, but not EVERYTHING, so SW and Org become the logical places to congregate), Blizzard can increase the apparent adoption of new content, even if players are AFKing in the Stormwind AH rather than actually playing the new content.

I’ll say this. They put themselves in a bad position here. No matter what they do, they’ll have egg on their face.

If they try and stonewall, it looks like they don’t care about their players. If they respond and admit its a mistake, they look incompetent.

Nothing they can do now can let them move forward without their reputation being tarnished. However, sometimes when you’re in such a situation the smart thing to do is go “what will cause the least harm to our reputation?” and then go with that.

Admitting you’ve made mistakes can do far less harm because you can spin doctor that. Show humility, admit that you hadn’t considered just how passionate the players were about certain matters. Make promises to work with them more in the future on such changes. Even if you’re lying out your bunghole, you can come out looking good.

Simply stonewalling will only further cement players negative view about you. There’s no real way you can recover from that kind of damage.

Yeah, well, at this point I honestly don’t care if they can recover or whatever from this. I would like to know how this situation is going to be handled. It’s not my fault that they did this by taking away the portals in the first place.

I am quite unhappy with how they handled it and it feels like most everyone else is as well. It’s just embarrassing for a company this big and with this big of a reputation to fail this hard.

See Final Fantasy 14 as a great example. Heck, as was mentioned earlier, the players throw in-game birthday parties for the devs now.

Since they decided to make us the “Heroes of Azeroth” now, I haven’t been able to understand why we can’t even get the faction leaders to spring for a couple of mages to hot spots like the demon invasions in Legion. What, you expect me to save the world for you and you can’t even send me to Kalimdor, Wrynn?

In other words: We want to force you to waste time in the game so it seems like our players are playing the game more.

That’s not how this should work. Make the content fun and rewarding, and people will play even if they can instantly port from one end of the world to the other. Artificial time sinks aren’t fun.

Hell, I want my own castle by now overlooking a great expanse of land I have to travel over to do trivial questing, because I want to be able to see how big the world really is.

EDIT : On second thought I will just take Dalaran

I can’t fathom why they didn’t just remodel the Cleft of Shadows. Move around some of the existing huts and build the new portal room right there.

Probably because that would have been too logical?

Your right the world is alot bigger, but you experience very little of it with portals and flying. I hate flight with a passion as it killed mog farming, opened content too quickly, proffesions are mostly omegalul now. I’ll take the portal nerf any day.

Portal situation wasn’t bad, you’re being disingenuous to say the least. Removing ports from old hubs makes no sense. Getting to a world location faster doesn’t matter when we still have to travel and explore the area once we get there. The world still feels “big” in that regard. Also, taking out ports for questing in Legion was counter intuitive to your lame arguments about how Legion was still current content. It’s laughable to say the least that you sit here massively buffing Legion mobs and dungeons so we can’t go through it like we used to, and then take away questing ports from Dalaran for our artifact quest chains. Either you are completely clueless as to managing this game or you’re lying and trying to feed us BS for your overall desire to extend this game in the least meaningful and cheapest ways possible.
