Rearranging and Removing Portals

This ridiculous removal was about ‘making the world bigger’. It’d just stoke the fires of hate if the free, easy portals are removed only to replace them with some other type of portal…especially if its limited to any class again…or costs gold.
I think most haters of this change would absolutely flip a lid at that point.

Even if it were 10k players it would still be tiny/insignificant (even with only 2m players that is less than 1/2 a percent of the total) and, since it wouldn’t be a true random sample, it wouldn’t even be useful for guaging the feelings of the majority of players.

Of course we are all free to express our feelings on the forums. What we should refrain from doing is attaching too much weight to forum comments/numbers.

How about this .a gnome -goblin teleporter to these places, placed in the major cities, since we are coming up on the new dungeon soon.

Guess Blizzard will find out how big of a problem it is when the subs they lose officially run out. :woman_shrugging: If it’s not a big problem, they won’t miss us.

The problem is, many of the people who are “stating their personal satisfaction with it” are also telling those who aren’t satisfied that they’re wrong, or they need to get over it, or that they’re lazy, entitled brats. They aren’t just stating their opinions, they’re insulting the opinions of the others. That goads some of the others to respond in kind, and we get all this back-and-forth bickering and name calling.

Not helpful. Not constructive. Not at all a good thing.

That is true, but there have been what? over 100 Million unique accounts created since the release so people come and go on a regular basis, often replaced by new players (which I suspect is part of their reason for many changes, attracting new players).

At any rate I hope everyone finds their happly place with whatever game(s) they choose to play.

precisely the reason Ive done web searches to get more data.
The overwhelming response to this is hate filled negativity on EVERY website and forum Ive seen it on.

Go read my posts.
Search them for my use of ‘lack of empathy’.
That.

I don’t have anything to really say because it has been said already but wanted to leave this here to show my support.

Your web searches are anecdotal data. If your were to organize them, compile the stats, and report the numbers, they still would be of questionable validity. People that are upset, or some times just bored, tend to post the most. Heck, I mostly read and post to the forums for entertainment between playing or working.

And, if hate filled negativity is truely what you are seeing over something like this I’d argue that those that are getting this upset have more significat issues than the removal of a few portals from a game. Or it could be just the general incivility that seems to permeat the internet.

The problem with WoW is how old it is. At almost 20 years old, pretty much everyone that’s wanted to play it at this point, already has. They don’t have much new blood to bring in anymore, and they’ve lost most of their regulars over the years. Changes like these, that lose them even more customers, should be something they’re avoiding. But they’re stubbornly pushing ahead with many changes in this expansion that we’ve told them aren’t fun.

oh yawn.
ALL data is ‘anecdotal’ at some point.
That isnt an argument, sorry to say.
When tons of players are showing hate, those players ARE the data.
Charts arent required to know the house is burning down…the smoke and flame is clear enough.

I believe that they are trying to make the game more appealing to new players. The MMORPG space is not only declining, but there is more competition than when WoW released. Classic will appeal to some of the original players, maybe the changes will draw in some new ones. We’ll just have to wait and see. I know I’ll be spending some time in classic myself.

I’m saying that’s the problem. There just aren’t that many new people that want to play this game. So not only are they not appealing to new players, they’re losing the ones they have.

And not only that, but what kind of new players are they hoping to bring in with the RNG expansion? They’re making it harder to get around old content, and the new content isn’t anything to write home about since it’s just all designed to keep us paying longer, instead of having fun. And don’t get me started on allied races.

I vote it’s this.

But that doesn’t change the fact that a large number of people truly are upset over these changes (for varying reasons).

Exactly.
Im playing FF14 as Im typing this and except for the anime looking everything its every bit as fun as WoW is.
When WoW was brand new, it had appeal, Im sure. Still does. But there are too many other options that may not be as irritating.
Why keep playing this outdated engine that is destined to die at some point much sooner than some other game thats newer and ISNT a constant battle with the devs to quit playing infantile, controlling games.

Well it would be to any developer or to any data scientist. There is a good quote “Without data you are just another person with an opinion.” That can be modified to say “Without valid data you are just another person with an opinion.” From what I’ve seen on these forums we are all just people with our own opinions.

Yeaaah. It gets easier to ignore the half naked catgirls. Not completely… but… easier at least…

I disagree with this point. With more than 7 billion people in the world, I doubt they’ve used up all their potential player base.

But I 100% completely and fully agree with this. They should be focused on making the game more fun, not be worrying about how folks get around in it. They’re obsessed with flying and portals when they should be obsessing over actual game play.

yeah…it couldnt possibly be that this is the last straw after dealing with constant nerfing of classes, constant nerfing of mats that drop, constant nerfing of gear dropping, removal of master loot that didnt need removed, fighting to keep flight, etc, etc, etc, etc ,etc.
No…NONE of that MIGHT have been irritating players PRIOR TO the removal of portals they use and so making THIS the last and final straw.
Nope…the portal removal is a stand alone issue that has nothing to do with the ongoing problems in this game, including, but not limited to the FAILURE to fix so many bugs inthe game that have been an irritation for years now.
