I will be transferring a lvl 110 character with close to 900k gold to a new realm. According to this page, you can only bring 250k gold to a new realm:
https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/Character-Transfer
I believe this 250k limit was put in place when the gold cap was only 1mil. Has it not been increased to scale with the new gold cap? I'd just like to make sure the documentation isn't out of sync with the actual transfer rules.
If the limit is indeed 250k, is there any way I can efficiently transfer my gold to the new realm? I know battle pets are one way to launder gold, but this isn't really ideal for me. I thought I heard that guilds come along with a transfer, but I couldn't find any information on this on the linked page above. Would it be conceivable to create my own guild, move all my gold into the guild bank, along with all my inventory items from alt characters, and transfer it to the new realm that way? What is the guild bank gold limit transfer? Are there any issues with doing this?

As that article was last updated a month ago, it's safe to say that 250k is still accurate.
https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/guild-services
According to the eligibility and limitations here, there's no such cap so it stands to reason that it's your ideal option.
However, you must hold guild master status for seven days before you can initiate a transfer, and there must be at least one other person in the guild.
The other thing that some people do to move their gold when they are over the cap is to buy out things on the AH that sell for high prices on the new realm and then sell them on the new realm's AH after the transfer.
The limit used to be 50k but was raised before Legion to 250k. The article is correct.
The guild transfer does not have a gold limit. But does have other limits and restrictions you should research. When you transfer you only move the guild leader. Other character have a individual transfer fee, but stay in the guild if moving to the same server.

One thing I'm doing is buying gameplay tokens on the realm I am on, so I'll have less then 250k when I transfer to another realm (where my other Horde characters are).
I'm holding off on converting the tokens into sub-months, hoping Blizz will announce the feature that lets me use the tokens to pay for the transfer.

Keep in mind that they may also introduce a second type of token and that the ones used for game time may not be the same as those used for other services.
Just be prepared to use them for game time too. Also, you can't transfer a character that has game time tokens on them currently, so if you're hoping to move that particular character, you may need to apply all those tokens first.
I guess we'll see what happens once more info is available.
250k is correct.
Time to learn gold tricks.
Battle pets. TCG mounts. BOEs (risky). Mats + consumables (flasks and potions).

Send your gold to an alt and use it for wow time.
Yes, this would be a viable work-around for you. The entirety of the guild bank would transfer, including all items and gold.02/01/2017 06:05 AMPosted by WarstormWould it be conceivable to create my own guild, move all my gold into the guild bank, along with all my inventory items from alt characters, and transfer it to the new realm that way? There are some limitations, however, outlined here:
https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/Guild-Services
no one says how much gold a guild bank can take with it.
Is there an additional cost, I cant seem to find this information on the articles provided. Or is it just free to take the guild if you are doing a character transfer already?

It's something like $10 more to do a "Guild master transfer"
It should be clearly listed on the services page. There are many additional restrictions.

Guild transfer is 10 dollars more then a character transfer. Guild transfer is just the Guild Master , Guild name and the contents of the guild bank.
Character transfer 25 dollars
Guild Transfer 35 dollars
Edit:
You have to be guild master of the guild you wish to transfer for at least 7 days before the system will let you transfer the guild. You can change factions of the guild but that is an additional charge.
I heard a Blue say that the gold cap is to prevent people from moving large sums of money around and disrupting server economies.
That concern completely disappears if you toss ten extra dollars at Blizz and move a guild bank.

Plus a 7 day delay allowing shady accounts time to get picked up on?

It was increased after the cap was to 1 million raise per toon it used to be 50k
Pretty sure you can transfer 9,999,999gp 99sp 99cp for 10 bucks more.
Only catch is you have to be leader of the guild for at least a week to use Guild Services.

Hi - is the only restriction the gold your character has on them? Are all your items in your bags and in your bank transferred with your character?
I am considering a realm transfer because mine is kinda low pop and lame but my bank toon has a large number of items which I am selling collected over a number of years so I'd want to take all those with me if I could.
But basically if I deck my one character's bank with all the stuff I want to take and ensure he has no more than 250k on him I can just x-fer all the stuff with him?

Correct.
