Anyone else? We’re approaching a very horrible expansion and everything is so similar to retail. Not to mention it’s pretty obvious classic+ has been in the works.
with how they’re treating it I wouldnt be surprised if they finally give up and leave it on the wrong expansion to rot.
Its a kiss curse with Blizzard.. on one hand they are probably one of the better “hype” builders in the game but often it can hurt them too. Everything has to be some sort of party hat celebration announcement that can cause a loss of momentum. Which I feel is certainly happening in the classic world these days.
Is it really though? Is there an official source confirming this?
I don’t really care whether they give a concrete road map or say nothing, as they’ve been mostly doing since launch in 2019. It’s not as though it would make any difference whatsoever to what I am doing in my day to day.
Are you suggesting that WoD is worse than MoP? What’s bad about WoD? As far as I know, the only real grievances people had at the time were that garrisons made people somewhat less social (not a huge change from sitting in a major city waiting for a queue to pop, imo), and that there was a lot of time between content. Neither of these things need to be problematic for a Classic version if it is sped up.
I think there might be some issues around this. If people are playing MoP over Classic (Era, Anniversary, HC, whatever) and anticipating something else to play, then there is already a major divergence in what people want out of Classic+ — SoD really hit the mark for some, and couldn’t have been further from it for others, so who knows what that sort of thing might mean.
As for me, while I gave MoP a shot, I don’t personally see anything about it that is compelling or even particularly good when contrasted with Retail or any of the versions on the Era client. It’s sort of a “worst of all worlds” version, from my perspective. Maybe that’ll change at some point.
Anyway, once TBC Classic came out, I had just assumed the next expansion to be inevitable. With the massive dips in population to MoP Classic, I guess I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an End-of-Life announcement given at some point, like they did with SoD. Does it even have as large of a playerbase still as SoD did in its last phase?

That’s exactly where the decline of Classic relaunch started IMO. Nothing but daily updates to it, patch notes blah blah. It was IMMENSELY noticeable how many less players there were. Slowly but surely the devs attention dwindled from Classic until it became such a joke it almost didn’t exist.
They either dont know the future which is.. laughably terrible.. or they do know and realize it would be a disaster if they said it. Or they just don’t care about us knowing. Probably that last one sadly.
I don’t think they have to spill the whole bag on the floor here with every detail either. Simply saying some Santa bag stuff like “we have a plan to continue and will let everyone know more in the coming new year” would at least sand bag a lot of players from cope to hope. Total radio silence is turning despair into seething rage.
But I just look at what the golden boys are doing. They know already. Joardee is making a big website for classic plus? Hmm… I wonder.. I wonder. Almost feels like a 24 hour “merge the servers” tweet storm the golden boys did before suddenly the news dropped and they got to do the self pat on the back campaign titled “we did it”.
The question is why is it ok they know but everyone else has to be left in the dark.
I’m unfortunately on the cynical side of this. They know that this is likely it, they won’t tell us because they don’t want to lose money from people canceling. My husband is a bit optimistic that he thinks they’ll let us port our characters over to retail but I am not sure that’s going to be an option so much as “oh well, thanks for playing! You can reroll to retail or stay but this is going to be closed off and not maintained.”
No, the decline began with SoD’s predecessor, Season of Mastery.
Literally nobody in the classic community was asking for either of those yet Blizz just slung them out at us and fractured the player base.
There was a time where they might have been able to get away with just labeling SoD as “Classic+” and calling it a day. But now it’s really just unclear what classic+ would even be.
Their plan? To continue to screw up every classic version of this game thinking they will keep us addicted so that we will all just eventually decide to play “THIER VISION OF WOW” RETAIL.
But they just don’t understand that we all rather play sticks and stones MMO’s or other games instead of playing RETAIL.
They’ll do what’s profitable, and that’s whatever the players in China want. That’s why they’re doing that Titan:Reforged year long server in China. The three most popular expacs with more of what the Chinese players want. That will hold them off until Classic+ launches in about 14 months from now.
The Classic playerbase in China dwarfs EU and NA. That’s where the money is.
Mop may be the end of the line. Next expansion is when you get mythic raiding. I don’t think the playerbase here wants that it would be a waste of time
The only reason I’m playing classic is for the potential of Legion, that I unfortunately missed when it was current.
I have no interest in vanilla plus.
If progression is over, I’m out ![]()
That’s only true if you havent played retail since MoP/WoD were current. The reason I’m even playing classic, is because its raiding and class designs are vastly more casual and less complex; it’s a nice “turn your brain off and have fun” state of the game.
In what world is Warlords of Dreanor similar to The War Within (or soon Midnight)? I don’t like Warlords of Dreanor but that’s just straight up wrong. If we approach Legion, then maybe we have some similarities (still far off tho).
Not obvious, no. Them saying SoD is not the end does NOT mean Classic+ is confirmed or let alone being worked on.
They are not sharing anything because they simply don’t know what the plan is.
I dont get what people are saying either that WoD and retail are so similar. I quit playing shortly after legion pre patch, and the similarities between that version and retail are vastly different. When i log on retail it literally doesnt even feel like WoW to an old head like me
I can relate to that.
I’ll give you one word. Pathfinder.
Oh right! Yeah, I had forgotten about this. In Retail, they still have it but for the old style of flying, and you get dragon riding right away, I think.
IDK if that’s a big deal though. If Pathfinder is the worst thing one can point to, then that sort of speaks pretty highly about the expansion otherwise. It’s just time-gating on flight, which we have already had since TBC, just in different forms. And likewise with riding in Vanilla.

Im the rare type that really enjoyed WoD. I liked the garrison idea even though it was empty. It was a spot for me to level, turn in bones from pvp, and decorate my area with trophies. The pathfinder thing wasnt a big deal as leveling through questing was easy. The dungeons were fun and i had some of my best pvp moments with my Disc Priest on WoD. I think they should take what they learned and fix it. Because between Ashran, Garrisons, World bosses and treasures, raiding and the dungeons, i really enjoyed WoD.
