Note: This is pure speculation, as Blizzard hasn’t revealed exactly how this particular system works, and for good reason too.
It is entirely possible that the act of sending a chat message sort of “kicked” things into gear. After the chat message was sent, then the system retrieved the warning and displayed it.

Again, that does not mean you did anything wrong in Retail, but it could’ve been something from Classic.
Exactly this. Profanity, no matter if it is clear or masked, is a violation of the In-game Code of Conduct. Same with toxicity.
You can’t know that for certain. As I’ve stated several times already, and as Ekon said, the warnings can be delayed and only show up when you login again or change game versions.
It’s possible one of the SFAs might be able to look into your chat, but that won’t be until the morning when they are back in the office.
