Real Player Housing: What Do YOU Want To Have?

Again, you are assuming that housing in WoW would be ‘open world’ and not instanced. Because only with non-instanced homes would anyone else be able to see it by just wandering by to be impressed by your possession. And I am as sure as I can be about anything to do with WoW that player housing would be instanced. So nobody could see it except you! Unless you specifically invited them in, of course.

So the whole thing about people buying them as a status symbol would be invalid. You can’t brag about something if nobody else can see it. Sure you can share images of your furnishings and your classy interior design online somewhere but people do that anyhow.

FF14 is a completely different situation. Its player numbers are far less per server than WoW’s - and before you leap in and say that they are growing, its true, they are. But that probably only makes it worse as far as housing goes. The chances of anyone in FF coming in now and getting a house are probably ridiculously small. There is no way Blizzard would copy that model - because who would pay money for a house they can’t use?

I dont want player housing. it would be locked behind micro transactions or a big massive rep grind or both and would not be an actual house but rather a place that we have to work for and be more like an office space that would become irrelevant less than a few months after release.

I get to play enough dress-up with my transmog. I don’t feel compelled to decorate a small in-game apartment.

It’s because calling the Garrison player housing is like saying putting extra shredded cheese on a Hot Pocket is ‘cooking’.

The Garrison offered little in the way of evergreen content, it was 100% needed for WoD in order for it to function. True housing would be like Pet Battles or Transmog; it would be completely optional for everyone, and if you wish to get in on the ground floor of the Economy, would actually be a wise investment.

Imagine people basically printing gold that doesn’t require AH all the time. While yes you can sell furniture and/or blueprints/mats on the AH, a few number of people would be ‘interior decorators’ for various people and would make their money that way.

Housing would be a way to actually make casuals actually INVEST in something rather than just have a list of achievements and gear; we’d be able to actually be PROUD of something for once.

Communities could have housing contests, roleplayers could have taverns, public places, etc. This is something Blizzard should do that would bring the conundrum of how to keep professions relevant AND keep people from feeling the downtime between content droughts.

Maybe someone who wasn’t interested in housing would do it out of sheer boredom and end up liking it; I know a lot of people who did this with Transmog and pet battles; they hated it at first then when they got into hunting Transmog pieces or gathering battle pets, they became INVESTED (see, that word again) in the game they’re playing.

It’s a way to retain players without having to keep doing dailies and putting things behind timegating.

Honestly, I want an Account wide housing system that share all my triumphs from all my characters, I do not want random things like a dance studio, AH, or Bank, just make it attached to Org or Stormwind and you will not need those.

I want a trophy room, one that shows all my accomplishments throughout the expansions, Boss heads maybe or their weapons, a wall of all the weapons I have collected (obviously not all, but my favorites), I would also like a training area that I can learn how to play a class or spec a little better, kind of like that one system they added that you had to do before you could do dungeons lol.

Let me add rooms to my house, and not that tier bullcrap that the garrison had.

Proving Grounds.

Of all the things in game that genuinely need a healthier revisit, PG is certainly it!

Tied is a fix to SL absolutely inane “story” delivery. Ouch.

What I would LIKE: A system like Wildstar had. (will not likely happen)

What I would accept: a plot in the Garrison with a house specifically for the player character.

(or something similar; much more feasible)

thats…not my point. i’m not calling the garrison player housing.
im saying what would be the difference of people populating the world between a garrison and player housing? the world would still be just as dead.

i disagree but

I personally would prefer a mix between a single player house and a portal that connects to their Guild Hall, based on the Class Halls of Legion.

A single player’s house, somewhere in the world, a small, nice view plot of land.

And, a nicely huge base of a Guild Hall, complete with a landing site for either a Skyhammer or Airship Blimp. That the guild can use to fly to raids or what not.

Imagine the chance to go into a PVP situation riding on either of the above.

Would be hell to code, might be worth the time to see if its fun for players and therefore should be done, and figure out how. Still, no guild would LOSE their ride, just could be worth more PVP-wise for Honor, say if a guild goes and takes a rival side’s ship in any given BG.

FFXIV does a great job of rewarding stuff for players’ housing options in game due to loot drops, mat’s, items, and other things that enhance their house.

WoW could make its own variation, thus sending massive numbers of players into both old and new content alike.

It all depends on if, what, and how Blizzard decides to make their player housing, and how mat’s, items, patterns, etc., are collected in game.

i think yall are really underestimating who would come back and do activities for player housing.
they’ve done this with little breadcrumbs throughout various expansions and people hardly bother.

Investment in equals investment out.

Blizzard tossing bread crumbs offers no incentive to bite.

An actual content rabbit hole? Now that’s a different iterative context entirely.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: I want housing to be housing. Not a garrison, not a mini-city, and certainly not a guild hall.

Final Fantasy has some good aspects to it, and Blizz would do well to learn from that (but not copy it).

Instanced area works. Maybe be able to build your own house in a neighborhood, etc. Be able to invite people over. Possibly even open it to anyone to come in, and see what you have.

There should be bookshelves for all the books (gray or otherwise) that are out there. There should be a display case for items you’ve found over time - and maybe even a way to buy replica items from quests that you had to give up. There should be a refrigerator/pantry for food and ingredients.

What shouldn’t there be? Shopkeepers. AH. Trade chat, although a zone chat would be ok. Portals, except maybe to a major city in Azeroth.

What would need to be added to the game? More stuff. Furniture, furnishings, etc. More cosmetic items for professions to make, from all over all expansions.

For me, the ability to be able to store cosmetic and gray items is the big reason why anyone would want housing. I’m not a transmog guy, but if I could put all of the Seedy Love Story books on display on a bookshelf, I’d be all over that. And it wouldn’t draw me away from the city, either.

To the thread, the player housing and Guild Hall would be two separate content areas, just connected by at least portal or something else.

I agree to your post fully.

The hard part though on Blizzard’s part is doing enough to convince players to invest into player housing and the full range of what players can go hunt to start collecting into their in game housing.

The thing with Blizzard is always the corrupt a wish, as someone else put it.

Player housing as players want it will not likely be what Blizzard makes said PH to be.

Blizzard will do it its own way, and likely blame players when they don’t invest in what Blizzard made, despite said Blizzard not giving players what and as PH was requested.

I would like all of that :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Single housing (It’s how I would like the housing in WoW and how it could work. But it can be very ambious for some of parts ):

  • You can’t fly when you are in your house + there are no flight path in your house.
  • Every of your characters can have house but only one per character.
If you want another one (new location) for the same character, you will got the new one but everything will be reset (except the decorations you already have + your music rolls) for the old one and you will lose the access to this one.
  • You can invite your friends in your house using a toy (30s cooldown) sells by a vendor. It opens a portal to your house. Open a portal to your house for 50 seconds.
  • You can choose your location for your house at Stormwind/Orgrimmar. Same thing if you want a new location.
  • How it works when you’re inside:
Same concept as WoD Garrison => When you’re in your “house”, only you are inside. Of course you can invite your friends to come too.
  • Where:
“Nowhere” => The location of your house is “unknown” but you know where you are (if your house is in Elwynn forest, you know you’re somewhere in the Elwynn forest but your “location” is “unknown”).
So with that “concept” we can have many more locations for housing without having troubles with the current maps.
=> The best example I have for that is the Darkmoon Faire isle. You know where you are but your location is “unknown”.
  • Locations:

    • Elwynn Forest (human architecture style)
    • Durotar (orc architecture style)
    • Ashenvale (night elf architecture style)
    • Eversong Woods (blood elf architecture style)
    • Dun Morogh (dwarf architecture style)
    • Tirisfal Glades (forsaken architecture style)
    • Feralas (mix between “hunter”/highborne/night elf architecture style)
    • The Hinterlands (wildhammer dwarf architecture style)
    • Eastern Plaguelands (“creepy” architecture style)
    • Duskwood (haunted architecture style)
    • Winterspring (“Arctic” architecture style => like Everlook)
    • Grizzly Hills (“Grizzly Hills” architecture style)
    • Valley of the Four Winds (pandaren farmer architecture style)
    • The Jade Forest (pandaren/mogu empire architecture style)
    • Val’sharah (druid architecture style => like the Dreamgrove)
    • Stormheim (vrykul architecture style)
    • Tiragarde Sound (kul tiran architecture style)
    • Zuldazar (zandalari architecture style)

(all buildings will be in the architecture style from their location except for your class building)

  • Buildings we could have:
    • Our house
    • An Inn
    • A stable => You can put 5 of your favorite mounts (as the stable of the WoD Garrison). It’s for each character and not all character, as the stable of the WoD Garrison where we have the same for all characters.
Here each of your characters can choose what mounts it wants to see in its stable (up to 5).
Just speak with the character in your stable to “save” your 5 favourite mounts.
    • Many other ones just for cosmetic like a mage tower, a barn, an engineering works, a tailoring emporium, a forge, an arcane sanctum, a lumber yard, an arsenal
  • Building positioning:
    • As in the WoD Garrison => You will have two large plots, two medium plots and three small plots. You will have your house too (but it doesn’t count in the plots you will take to build your other buildings).
    • Use the architect’s table in your house to choose the location and to build the building. The architect’s table is only for buildings and not decorations.
    • When you build a building there are generic characters with generic names inside => You can change their appearance (change its race and its sex).
  • Class buildings:
It’s a building exclusive to your class. You can built it according to your class. It can be a building for a large plot or a medium plot.
    Here are two examples:
    • Class building for hunter: Pet Den => You can put 5 of your favorite pets as hunter.
You can see them walking in this building and you can have some interactions with them (at least pat them like Deathfang, Draka’s Companion).
The Pet Den architecture can be different according to the location you are (for example: Durotar Pet Den can be a metallic building, Dun Morogh Pet Den can be a little cave and Elwynn Forest Pet Den can be a cozy hut for your pets).
Just speak with the character in your Pet Den to “save” your 5 favourite pets.
    • Class building for warlocks: Warlock Sanctum => You can put your demonic minions here.
You can have interactions with them except for the Felhunter (pat option).
We can find many interactions for your demonic minions like “Hello”, “What are you doing”, “What do you like/dislike”, “How are you”, “Goodbye”, etc. There is no need to have audio, texts should be enough.
You can only put the ones you have => Imp or Fel Imp + Voidwalker or Voidlord + Sayaad (Succubus/Incubus) or Shivarra + Felhunter or Observer + Felguard or Wrathguard (only for Demonology warlocks).
Glyphs work with the Warlock Sanctum (your Imp will become a Fel Imp in your Warlock Sanctum)
  • NPCs:
    • Three types:
      • Racial guards:
You can enable or disable them.
Default racial guards: Humans or Orcs.
You can change them with another when you are exalted with one of these factions (buy the item to the reputation vendor to unlock this option on your character or your account):

        • Alliance:
          • Darnassus (Night Elf)
          • Gnomeregan (Gnome)
          • Ironforge (Ironforge Dwarf)
          • The Exodar (Draenei)
          • Gilneas (Worgen)
          • Tushui Pandarens (Tushui Pandaren)
          • Kurenaï (Broken)
          • The Silver Covenant (High Elf)
          • Wildhammer Clan (Wildhammer Dwarf)
          • Pearlfin Jinyu (Jinyu)
          • Argussian Reach (Void Elf)
          • Army of the Light (Lightforged Draenei)
          • 7th Legion (Dark Iron Dwarf)
          • Proudmoore Admiralty (Kul Tiran)
          • The Waveblade Ankoan (Ankoan)
        • Horde:
          • Thunderbluff (Tauren)
          • Darkspear Trolls (Darkspear Troll)
          • Undercity (Forsaken)
          • Silvermoon City (Blood Elf)
          • Bilgewater Cartel (Goblin)
          • Huojin Pandarens (Huojin Pandaren)
          • Undercity (Dark Ranger)
          • The Taunka (Taunka)
          • Dragonmaw Clan (Dragonmaw Orc)
          • Highmountain Tribe (Highmountain Tauren)
          • The Nightfallen (Nightborne)
          • The Honorbound (Mag’har Orc)
          • Zandalari Empire (Zandalari Troll)
          • Voldunai (Vulpera)
        • Death Knight:
          • Knights of the Ebon Blade (Death Knights)

According to class and your faction, you can choose a special guard type. You need to finish your Class Hall Campaign from Legion for that:

        • Warrior:
          • 7th Legion Shock Force (Alliance) => Humans + Dwarves + Night Elves + Draenei
            or

        • Paladin:
          • Silver Hand Templar (Alliance) => Humans + Draenei + High Elves or Argus Purifier (Alliance) => Draenei
            or
          • Blood Knight (Horde) => Blood Elves
            or
          • Sunwalker Keeper (Horde) => Taurens
        • Hunter:

        Racial guards cann’t be changed.
Each appearance source owns its own appearances (1 male/1 female) with generic name.

  • How can we get new decorations:
    • Reputations
    • Dungeons/Raids
    • Professions
    • Achievements
    • Quests
    • Vendors
  • What kind of decorations can we get:
Statues, fountains, new chair models, new painting models and many other models
  • Decoration positioning:
I don’t know how for now but I’m sure we can find something pretty nice.
  • Useful “tools” for housing:
    • Hearthstone to go in your house (if you delete it, don’t worry, you will receive another one in your mailbox)
    • Innkeeper (sell you Food & Drink for all levels)
    • Vendor + Repairs
    • Portal: Stormwind or Orgrimmar
    • Personal Bank
    • Mailbox
  • Music for housing:
Same concept as WoD Garrison => You get the music rolls with the same way as WoD Garrison with more new music tracks.
You already have your jukebox when you got your house.
You can choose the default music for your house.
You can change it when you want.
  • Size:
No need to have a too big area. The WoD Garrison size or the Hall Class (Legion) size should be enough.
  • What can we keep from WoD Garrison:
    • The plots for buildings
    • Jukebox
    • Hearthstone
    • Choose your racial guards
    • Choose your banners
    • Stable but with 5 of your favorite mounts + For each character and not all character, as the stable of the WoD Garrison where we have the same for all characters
    • The architect’s table

Now give me housings for my characters :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

After all the major feats that we have all done here in Azeroth, saving this world on countless occasions… yea I think I’ve earned a house. We all have.

Personally they are missing a huge opportunity with the lack of player housing, there is a huge amount of content and a side game to wow that would bring alot of players happiness. Not to mention the Blizz store possibilities selling items is endless.

But I say get creative Blizz and tie in to our professions or add another profession such as crafting items for the garrison. It would be my new go to because lord knows we are sick of farming Anima, soulash and the other flavors of the day endlessly

I prefer the thought of both freely and widely available drops throughout both old and new content alike along with putting at least a good half of that spread into and through the Professions as they also need further work as well.

Yes.

Exactly as it handles millions of Garrisons, instance.

I just want a little apartment in Gadgetzan.
