Real ID part 2

WTF have make up names on toons if they allow this. Is this some sort of joke? cause I sure as hell don’t find it amusing.

Mine is turned off now. My own ISP doxxes me it’s so bad. Endless sales advertising, etc. But I don’t want MOREPEOPLE to know my stuff.

Can’t wait for Blizzard to read that part

That’s what I thought when I first read it. The keyword is external not internal. I wish we had a way to op out of harvesting our data period. From what I read CA has these rules. I dislike the idea immensley of literally having peeping toms looking at my stuff and then selling it. Then the audacity to act like it’s the players fault. Should be completely illegal.

If I want to leave feedback take my word for it. Don’t go poking around in my interests/privacy and say but this what you wanted isn’t it? No, our I would’ve informed you of this. They are very selective in what information they do listen to. The people crying for High Elves for almost 3 years? Would understand. Now I understand not everyone is going to be as honest, it is the internet. Still if someone is taking time out to give feedback that should be the main focus of the interaction.

As for not being genuinely honest or vindictive/manipulative members of the community and if they seek to crack down on it. I am personally unhappy with the REAL ID suggestion. They can think of a better solution and actually try and do something about it. Like Asmongold resorting social media outlets because Blizzard is not addressing his issues of harassment. (Shows the current system in place does not work) Or the young man (Reckful) who killed himself this year probably do to many years of people telling him to kill himself using Blizzard’s platform.

Cool so you know. Yep i agree it was an s storm like flying .

One thing good about this thread…i forgot about the real id “stuff” and this reminded me.

Last night i went in my settings and disabled it.

I disagree. I’ve been stalked in game by someone from the forums because i used to post on my main. They made numerous characters on my server and even transferred their main to my server to harass myself and my guildmates all because we didn’t see eye to eye on game issues. This person went to unreasonable lengths to circumvent the report & ignore features to continue harassing me. Eventually this person was actioned and the harassment stopped after numerous reports.

I totally advocate for anonymity in that regard because it is not fun not being able to play the game that we pay for just to avoid someone harassing you and your guild mates because you don’t see eye to eye.

I’d just as soon keep my battle tag private as another layer of security against unwanted contact.

Thank God. And thats as political a statement i delve into today .

You mean like beating another player in CS and that person tracking you down and putting a knife in your heart?

All fun and games till you get stabbed for trolling in a video game.

No worries, thank you very much.

The guys wasnt trolling. Simply beat the other player.

"When posting to a message board, forum, or chat area, the information is being made publicly available online and the user does so at his or her own risk. For certain forums, anyone posting or replying to a post may be doing so using their Real ID – that is, their full first and last name – with the option to also display the name of their primary in-game character (see discussion regarding Real ID below). "

I guess this is just saying if you opt to use Real ID, then Real ID might be used.

Not really seeing the issue here. Just turn it off if you dont want it?

I was giving an example.
There’s tons of places that do that, but Runescape is one of the scummiest community’s.

I know of the incident I am just making a statement to point out how stupid the idea of sharing personal information is.

Pretty sure you could name yourself Ukhu Restless on FB without having to resory to using your own name.

This probably has to do with doing business in other countries. So they can let players know that they have to disclose such information.

Blizz is really weird about names.

After I got divorced I wanted to change the name on all my gaming accounts for what I hope would be obvious reasons. I play a lot games and literally every other gaming company I just logged into my account, edited personal information and BAM the name was changed.

Buuut Blizzard, for some reason I cannot fathom, wanted to see photo ID and a certificate of divorce. Who the heck do they think they are?

This REALLY rubs me the wrong way. So, to this day my account still has the wrong name on it and every time see it, I cringe. :persevere:

A company trying to prevent account theft? Back in the early days that wasn’t an uncommon tactic to steal an account and lock the original owner out of it. Sorry :frowning:

I’m not sure how changing my last name could be indicative of stealing an account and locking the owner out. Afterall, I have an authenticator, and I was not changing the important stuff like password or login or email address… I don’t believe potential account theft is a viable reason for such a ridiculous policy. :woman_shrugging:
