So when authenticators die they require proof of ID to unlock the account, because anyone could claim the authenticator died. So in order to prevent account theft they require proof of name change in order to maintain security.
I haven’t used the physical authenticator in ages, I have the mobile one now… yet neither asked me to prove my name when they were first installed. There are other ways to recover accounts that basically everyone else uses. I still believe this is silly and weird.
This right here. My first and last names are unique. If you search my name, my info is the first to appear in a search engine.
This is TL;DR of my previous post in this thread, but really:
-
If Blizzard wants to stop forum trolls from hiding behind multiple accounts, showing Btags on the forums ends that issue.
-
If Blizzard thinks people will be more civil because their real names are attached, they really haven’t been on Facebook in the last… ever.
I just want to know which forums will use RealID so I can avoid them. I also want to know the response time for the appeal email and also if your appeal to remove your RealID is turned down, if the player can delete the forum post and still retain their privacy.
The net gain here seems to be something with ads, and passing on anxiety to their fanbase about being exposed to the underbelly that is salty gamers you don’t share opinions with, and whatever harm they decided to do with that personal information.
Boy, I hope they are in for the headache they created, Especially with the CCPA
Gave a to this post but also want to quote it for extra updoot.
I always figured the reason they switched from the previous forum software to one that does not reflect all posts on your account was that they wanted the ability to use the forums for astroturfing.
I’ve been saying that Shadowlands is the expansion where they will be buckling down and bringing back all the failed bad ideas of the past, which they are sure would have worked only if they hadn’t caved to spoiled players doing things like unsubbing.
To be honest, the forums itself was starting to turn into a cesspool; due to my players including myself not taking it seriously.
Silly community including myself will take the forums more seriously and be far less active.
First thing would be first would be to remove every single thread they have in stock to avoid unnecessary stalkers as well as ordering dozens of pizzas to a player’s location, there’s a lot players could do with another player’s first and last name.
To me one toxicity is gaurenteed to be exchanged for another.
Players protecting their anonymity in order to prevent SWAT from being called to their house and killing them are the ones taking responsibility for their lives.
If your carelessness and negligence in opposing basic common sense protections ends up contributing towards allowing a real world death or assault to occur that could otherwise have easily been prevented, what “personal responsibility” will you be taking for it?
You know, that’s not far fetched.
My husband got sick in 2012. I hadn’t heard from him in a year almost (this was before we started dating obvs) so I went and googled his email address.
That Google result gave me a name.(I knew his first name but not last, we met online)
That name gave me two phone numbers, an address, a birth date, his name day, a map of his town, a Google earth view of the property, and the option to send flowers.
I opted instead to write a letter and shoot him a text message in broken Swedish.
We’ve been married two years now…lol
No, but it’s more of the “let’s facilitate putting people on lists”.
Funny how folks forget the outrage when Palin did just this.
Think WoW is the only forum that doesn’t use btag.
Methinks some “external developer” doesn’t want people to opt out en masse so poisoning the thread. lol
There are some toxic people in the PVP community. I wouldnt put it past them to call up employers and just make stuff up.
I dont know what they are like these days, but back in Cata\Mop is was crazy toxic. I think your statement is very ignorant, and ignores victims that get attacked for nothing as you assume somebody has to do something other than maybe betting somebody in a RBG multiple times etc. Or it could be just disagreeing with a wow forum comment on a class change or something like this.
People are crazy, this is not a good thing.
Handing down death sentences to people caught trolling would technically do the same. That doesn’t mean it’s an idea even worth consideration. It’s a very insignificant issue. Just put them on ignore, or better yet, don’t let them get under your skin?
I’m sorry to hear.
How do you disable your real ID stuff? Does it impact your chances to befriend people in WoW ingame?
Real ID being disabled doesn’t stop you from adding people to bnet. To add someone to Real ID you have to give them your email address (the one on the bnet account) and they add that instead of your btag, which means on their friends list it will show your first and last name instead of the btag handle. If you disable btag and you have someone added as Real ID it then just shows them under their btag. No idea what happens on the friend’s side.
To disable it you go to your account overview then the privacy section and you disable Real ID at the top.
Ya, if you play forums during work hours and boss looks up to see that you posted 1000 times while on the clock.
Well, that never happened to me.
