Right, but that community is built around RP. So if you remove yourself from this aspect, you won’t be woven into the fine knit. You’ll still be treated appropriately (likely) but i dare say if you are not ready/willing to invest some effort into RP, you’re picking a server you likely won’t stay on. Unless you choose it because you think there will be easier ganking for honor grind or less competitive raiders to “dominate” the server.
Generally good advice, I would say though you don’t have to participate in rp all the time. I prefer to organize sessions with friends/guildies or if a person is doing an ad in /2 for rp to join in. Being IC everytime I logged in would be exhausting lol
Some people like the community outside of the RP. It doesn’t matter if they found that it wasn’t for them, or that they just don’t want to do it. It could also be to play with friends who do RP.
I had this silly idea in my head, back when we were still fighting for just one RP-PvP server. I thought that if we could just get an RP-PvP server at launch, then the PvPers could go to their PvP servers, the RPers could go to their RP server, and the RP-PvP server would be made up of only RP-PvPers.
But that was pretty stupid of me, I’m realizing in hindsight. Grobbulus isn’t going to be made up of RP-PvPers… it’s going to be made up of 15 years of players from across the six existing retail RP-PvP server communities.
And the thing about that was, every single one of those RP-PvP servers were plagued with PvP bros and non-RP-PvPers from day one, because Blizzard created the RP-PvP servers AFTER the initial launch of Vanilla, which in turn led to many people with no interest in RP clamoring to join them just because they were new.
So there’s going to be hundreds if not thousands of players who ever only dabbled in RP at the most, and maybe even griefed and trolled RP at the least, who will roll on the RP-PvP server of Grobbulus, simply because it’s their preferred server type.
You can never truly go back and fix the mistakes of the past. Grobbulus will not be a new experience, it will be an amalgam of the six RP-PvP server communities from the last 15 years of retail WoW… for all the good AND the bad that comes with that.
My guild is rolling on an RP server solely for the friendliness of the people compared to other servers… I dont know if I can deal with all these points though lol
You usually have to be a very horrible person to get reported. Griefing or Godmoding are typically what’s going to get someone to do it. Very few people are hardcore RPers who are IC 100% of the time, so don’t worry.
RP is a social thing. If everyone does it, you will find that WoW is more fun and more immersive than you’d have ever dreamed possible. The world will be alive. The community will thrive.
If, however, people come to the realm to selfishly free load off our need of RP clothes, seep on our sense of mature community, and force us into guild only RP, eventually the RP in RP-PVP will disintegrate, and the work we put into get Grobbulus will be for nothing.
I get that - 100%. But c’mon, there’s always going to be people who are going to try to ruin the fun for others. Just ignore those people, or you know pvp happened.
If we set up all of this stuff, it’ll be almost no worth it for new comers to come and RP.
I started RPing without a character story, or hell - I didn’t even know that characters were supposed to meet before you called them their name. But I learned through trial and error, and by going out there and having fun. If I was told from the beginning " No do this, this way or else you can’t play with us ", I wouldn’t have stuck around.
Woah, woah, woah. This is good and highly encouraged. You’re trying. If anyone gives you grief for trying, they are the issue and are breaking the spirit of RP. What I’m talking about is people rolling on grob who have 0 interest or intention to RP, or people who only intend to RP once in a blue moon.
In terms of being welcoming to newcomers to RP, that’s what we should all be about, 100% of the time.
