It really hasnât. Most classic players also play retail. Thereâs a very very small amount of players that only play âoneâ version of the game. Blizzard has struck gold with how they are keeping everyone playing some sort of version with wow.
They have doubled down on what retail is and thatâs fine. People either like it or they donât. Retail is in the best spot it has been in for a while. Feeling aimless is probably more so to do because itâs a completely different game than even cata. I think a lot of people have just run their course with wow and itâs not gonna matter what blizzard does as thereâs only so much âclassicâ they can give for people longing for that kind of game.
But with better class design and bosses.
Doesnât feel the same to me, wotlk is a more pure design itâs the top of vanilla-tbc-wotlk class design. While cata is the start of the cata-mop-wod era which doesnât really feel the same. It added a lot of âunnecessaryâ complexity, sometimes it feel like they added new abilities without much context just so they can say there was something new added, but I will say that adding mastery was a good move imo.

Lmao as a 99 parsing mage and in a top 50 world speed guild on all iterations of classic i can promise you thats nowhere near the case. The average retail player is bad true, but the average classic player is worse than that.

So you like classic but dont want to play the classic version with a bunch of QoL features? Odd. The one version you should have tried you didnât.
Pre-end game is very chill, there is no real challenge and you can maybe do one story to 25%. But thatâs not the game anymore, itâs only about end game.
So I just recommend you push one toon to 80. Ignore the zillions of other things to do in the game. Then see what you think. Giving it 2 days after 5 years off? Of course you are overwhelmed.
