Re-subbed 2 days ago and already regret it. WoW is so torn and it's awful

I’ve played 4 hours a week in TBC Classic and WotLK Classic. Okay maybe 5 because I also did the stupid heroic/beta/gamma daily until it wasn’t relevant to me anymore.

I resubbed last month, and have the opposite experience. Leveled quickly to 85, found a guild, started to gear and pvp. Been a great time. Had to transfer servers to find one that was the right fit, but after that it has been smooth sailing. So if you are wondering about coming back and all this negativity is putting you off, hopefully you see this post and decide to give it a shot.

Basically it’s another “fresh servers blizz pls” thread.

As a long term player i felt the same thing. I leveled a toon to max, looked around after doing my weeklies and went “you know, i never did do…”

And then i went and did it. Im max level. Its very easy to go get anything old done. Im exploring zones i only visited briefly because my upgrades weren’t there. Im doing quest chains that “weren’t relevant”. Im doing all of this huge amount of content i never did because some guide or other said it wasn’t needed and i needed to focus on mythics or heroics or rep grinds or, or, or.

Now im playing the rest of the game. And some of it is grindy…but it also takes one button to kill a field of mobs.

So its fun.

Id go find where you left off in some random place and just quest. Or go get all the pets, mounts. Or look in your apperances tab and go get items you would for mogging.

I dont feel like i have to grind anything. Just enjoy the game.

Ymmv, but im liking retail rn.

The community isn’t actually fractured. It’s going into retail expansions so it has nothing to do with classic even though it’s in the name. Classic players are still playing classic. They’re either playing hardcore or era. SoD is the only division I suppose, but that’s winding down. And I’m sure they won’t try it again because of its failure.

So soon it will just be a fresh era server or playing hardcore. Like pretty much every other game.

And if you want to play a previous retail expansion, that’s fine. But that’s just dividing retail, not classic.

Thankfully original Classic still stands. Your past awaits! I wish you well.

You are extremely confused. Do you have M+20 completed for mythic raiding done?

Me neither.

I generally do the less hardcore retail content and find classic braindead easy.

You have not even experienced most retail or just like trolling.

It feels uncanny.

I’ve always subbed two years at a time for all the free mounts (and luck) but I’ve let it lapse, two months left.

Been here 20 years so doing brd again is just ugh. I think we’re just cannibalizing and old game and chewing old fun like a piece of fat.

Ain’t no flavor left. We don’t need salt and pepper at this point. It’s left overs. No amount of gravey is bringing your mom’s roast beef back.

The whole of MMO genre went down to be honest, and while its current state is all opinion based, nobody can deny that first, we got older and second the whole gaming business has gotten significantly bigger since vanilla came out 20 years ago.

I think the important thing when it comes to World of Warcraft, because it is so big and convoluted, is to start with your goals. What’s your goal? Why do you want to play?

For me, I enjoy the combat system and dungeon running, so I focus on mythic+. I like setting the seasonal goal of earning the mount and portals. But if you like just exploring the world or questing, than something like Classic or Season of Discovery might be a better fit.

As someone who has been around since the open beta in 2004, took a long break after Cataclysm launched, and returned in Dragonflight Season 3 in December 2023, I have really enjoyed the current pace and vibe of retail WoW. I’ve leveled every class to 70, earned the mythic+ mount in each season, and am working on getting all those alts to 80. But all my activities in WoW flow from my enjoyment of the combat system and wanting to run dungeons. So that’s all it boils down to, finding what aspect of the game you enjoy and then setting goals around it.

The long term plan I would imagine is to keep those monthly subs coming and milk / stretch every possible engagement metric known to man in the form of the amusement park model - something for everyone.

Such a toxic human, there are so many versions of the game to enjoy, yet they still find something to complain about.

I returned after 12 years and i enjoy the game tbh.

And the alternative is what, they run the same game for 20 years that never changes or evolves; so you can make the same post declaring how nothing is different since you last left?

Take some time to figure it out, let’s not blame the dev team because you feel overwhelmed after what seems like a several expansion hiiatus

Yeah they should have stopped with Wrath. That I would actually play.

How Blizz to this day still doesn’t realize Cata is when everything started going downhill is amazing. And not in a good way.

OMG is not only the OP post mega long but so are the responses.

Kk cya later

End classic. Having two games of the same exact game is lame

Where you see division, the executives and shareholders see engagement. They’ll keep 37 versions of the game active if it means active subscribers
