Re-evaluate group loot in pugged raids

Why is it that players are permitted to grief other players by rolling need on items that are clearly not upgrades for them (from an item level, sim, quality etc pov) in raid? I’ve always loved raiding in WoW, even pugging since majority of the time people have been decent towards one another and willing to help each other out, but this expansion (and even more so this tier) players blatantly abuse the ability to need on items and literally need on every thing that they’re capable of clicking need on.

“Welcome to LFR”
“Welcome to Normal”
“Welcome to Heroic”

These are comments i’m constantly seeing when doing LFR/pugging normal/heroic raid. This need to be re-evaluated because this can’t be the future going forward.

No one is griefing. The issue is that some players think their personal progress is more important than others, no matter the type. It’s not.

As long as transmog and multi-spec exist rolling on everything will be the norm. No reason to punish guilds because pugs do this.

You can’t roll need on an item if you already have something on a higher upgrade track.

You can roll need on something that is a lower ilvl but on a higher upgrade track.

Last night for example, my warrior won some Veteran 447 ilvl boots in LFR even though my currently equipped boots were Adventurer 450 ilvl.

That makes sense because the boots from LFR have a higher potential item level on them, so they are an upgrade compared to adventurer boots that are 8/8. If I already had veteran boots on from mythic+, I could still roll on the LFR boots because otherwise people would whine about not being able to min/max secondary stats.

You can’t roll on gear that you already have, and offspec gear rolls are like transmog rolls where they only happen if no one needs the item.

It isn’t trolling to roll on gear that the game system makes available to you. In the past where everyone could roll need on everything that dropped it certainly was trolling when people rolled on items they couldn’t even equip.

I also would say it isn’t for you to say if gear is or isn’t an upgrade for someone else’s character.

Because they were there for the kill and are entitled to push the button if they’re able, just like everyone else.

Did you complain about PL just giving them the items without even needing to click a button?

I miss personal loot in pugs. I haven’t won an item in 3 months of rolls. On personal loot i used to average one or two items per raid.

It’s literally the worst loot system.

Why couldn’t they just bring back master loot for raids and leave personal loot well enough alone.

You lost me here.

It’s impossible to talk to someone who starts out with this type of hyperbole. They’ve already made up their minds and will refuse to listen.

The amount of loot hasn’t changed. If you were always getting something before, someone else was always getting nothing.

In one particular raid setting you might be accurate. across weekly raids over 3 months though? Naw. No one I know has ever received nothing over 3 months.

It’s a horrible method for loot distribution when the chance exists for someone to get nothing over 3 months. that’s 25% of a year’s worth of efforts for nothing. Literally no one I ever knew in the last expansion went more than 2 weeks without a drop.

I know several of my friends who also have gotten nothing in at least 1+ months of raiding with the new roll system.

That chance exists with PL. There was never a guarantee of getting anything.

Well someone out there has friends getting more than usual, like you used to. (Which I’m sure doesn’t make you feel better but it is the RNG life)

Personally new GL has been far and away the fastest I’ve been able to gear my LFR pile of toons so PL can stay dead.

I am not sure if crafted items count because I had an alt lose a weapon roll in LFR to someone who had a max crafted item. Or if maybe it has to be that exact type of weapon, like a staff vs a dagger?

Actual same item at a higher level.

This states (at least one case) when you cannot roll Need:

Oh, I am with you and the fact that someone can roll on a rare raid recipe and not have that profession then offer to sell it in raid negates years of Blizzard trying to stop such low acts in pugs.

They’d only be able to greed on it, so nobody who actually has the profession should be able to lose to them. (Iirc anyway, I know I’ve only seen need on recipes I can use)

Because this is how personal loot worked before we got group loot back. A mythic raid geared person could go into a LFR and still get items, just like anyone else.

ive moaned about this a few times on threads - you are wasting your time.

… just embrace it - i now roll on stuff i dont need as well , that includes changing the loot table and needing on stuff i dont want - as an added bonus you can vendor/DE the item and need on it all over again the next week … and next… and next ad infinitum.

You’re just doing it PL style. :person_shrugging: everyone who’s complaining about GL loves PL, so they shouldn’t mind you causing the same outcome at all.

Just because you think it’s not an upgrade doesn’t mean it isn’t.

Anyone who participated in the kill is eligible for loot they don’t have.

PL did the same thing.
