RBGs are broken - MMR doesn't provide remotely similar matches

i dont know all the reasons, but some of the reasons were because people abusing the MMR system to climb to absurd values, some of it was because people were abusing the system to carry people for RMT…theres been alot abuse of the mmr system.

Well at any rate, Doragød/Joy, why would a team of 1700s take a 900 CR, bringing them in line with my yolo group when they evidently have 9/10 that outrank us by 100 CR?

CR =/= MMR

I won’t say you’re wrong, but why bring it up at all? Since what I had said was people are taking 900 CR folks to get easy wins.

basic thing is, your MMR changes faster than your CR. whether its going up or down, you’ll only gain maybe 16 CR points a win, but your team mmr might shoot up after a win by 100 points depending on the team you beat.

same but in reverse for a loss. you might lose 16CR, but your mmr could plummet hundreds of points.

IF your yolo group is 1400 MMR, and that 1700 team lost the last 3-4 games in a row, they might have only started at 1750CR but queued into your 1400 mmr yolo group. they would have lost maybe 50 CR and 300 MMR which is entirely reasonable for how this system works

But, I think we can both agree, not reasonable in the objective sense.

So what’s the answer for having someone with CR so wildly below the average? Am I just running into many carries?

I hate this mmr system. ESPECIALLY in rbgs. it is the worst ive ever seen it in rbgs. its horrid. hot. stinky. garbage.

probably not carries unless the other 9 people are over 2100.

like if you saw a team with all 2100 CR players except one who’s at 1700… thats sketchy. we know what that is.

if you see a bunch of 1700’s CR’s with a 900CR its probably not a carry. maybe a new person is trying to make trials into the groups 1800 team or something. or a person’s new-ish alt that just hasnt played enough games to catch up.

Finding these teams is how I know.
I got a +24 from this game in legion.

I’ve caught 3200 wintrades and -339 MMR wintraders.

CR is irrelevant to your MMR. Your CR’s only job is to chase your MMR whether it goes up or down. If your MMR is severely below your CR, you can gain 0 at 2400 even if you beat a team at 2800.

It’s really simple. I’m not sure how you came to your understanding of it whilst at 32% wr in 25 games. :man_shrugging:

I had no idea that MMR could go negative. rofl. thats WILD.

Becuase I assumed it was a universal concept.

So do you support an RBG solo queue - in addition to normal RBGs, I mean?

Because they needed to fill that slot?
Or are getting a buddy caught up?

I remember being like 1800 CR with 0 losses and I’d always tilt the bad players in the 2100ish groups because I was ““low rating”” despite having by far the highest MMR in the group.

Never assume, it makes an a$$ and of u and me.

Even worse whilst under the assumption, is when you post factual statements.

idk. Solo queue separately might be possible. but i dont think you’d be able to have a Solo Queue team VS Normal RBG team.

so you would need different brackets entirely… like as different as 2v2 and 3v3 and 5v5.

Which tbh, up to this point, im on board. this sounds great tbh.

but im worried about how the already low participation in RBGs can handle 2 versions of the same pvp exerience. If you start splitting particpation, it might be so low as to really harm both brackets.

Maybe thats offset by a new opportunity for engaging more people? idk.

If it were infrequent, I’d go along with that. I just see it a lot, so I assumed it was an attempt to tank a teams average, allowing them to sweep up easy wins.

So I was spitting facts. I’m glad we agree.

Yeah I mean the system would be built on the idea that the three major hurdles - friends, raid interface, and teams falling apart - are keep the majority of would-be players out of the game.

Yolos on win streaks are their easy wins.

welp, hit the /cry boys. I’m just their type.

this only would attempt to that third thing… teams falling apart. because you would just never have a team longer than a single match.

And you really hurt the ability to play with friends w/ solo queue. Like to the point that in the arena version of solo queue next patch, you CANT queue with friends.

I’m an officer in my guild, and I’m trying to build up a robust PVP wing to the operation. It’s not as easy as you’d think. I suspect a lot of would-be PVPers are held back by this system being unfriendly, and them having no PVP friends.

i think if blizzard really wanted to increase participation in PVP, the answer isnt more systems, its more communication, and more content and more adjustments.

like rather than designing an entirely new bracket and style to pvp, they should just do a version of TWaB (this week at bungie) make it This Week at Azeroth and once a week just talk to the playerbase in a formal way on anything that they think would be cool to pass on. . .
They should have more content, faster, and if something comes up and they cant Nerf Hpally mana Regen by 10% this week, but they’ll get it through the patch after, they can tell us that instead of just silence.

And some maps, for the love of god
