So I’ve been sitting back and taking in what today’s changes have done to the boosting and farming community. I think we can agree that boosting has been way too efficient at allowing others to play the game for you. Changing XP values to prevent XP boosting was an effective way to remove boosting and level the playing field for all gamers.
I will say that I feel that the raw gold farms were hit a little too hard. It makes sense to reduce the amount of gold in the economy, driving up the costs of gold in the RMT process. However, those of us who have relied on these raw gold farms as an income source can’t help but feel frustrated with this sudden change. And there are many on these forums who lack empathy for those of us who are upset. They somehow feel “victorious” because the class/spec that they chose to play could not do those farms, and they simply chalk it up to “well I guess you’ll just have to play the game like the rest of us”.
So to wrap this up, as a prot pally who frequently farmed LBRS, I will be going back to “playing the game” and tanking instances in WotLK. And because I can no longer farm gold, I will be looking to supplement my income another way. Remember this when you’re unable to find anyone willing to tank your dungeon for free–the “victory” you found today will ultimately lead to you being unable to play the game in the way you want in the near future.

Yeah it doesn’t help that prot paladins are garbage single target and have to aoe farm or respec in order to farm.

Don’t worry, I and thousands of other tanks will be there to do the job you are too afraid of doing FOR FREE.

Afraid, no. Unwilling, yes.
I don’t think it was just that, but it’s part of it. There’s a lot of general frustrations about gold things and I don’t think it’s this simple, but I get why you could see this that way.
I mostly wanted to reply to your pretty well-written thread to say that I get you coming here and wanting to vent, and looking for empathy and that’s hard to find on here as you’re seeing. The good thing is there are a lot of people on here right now who are in the same situation so you can find them easily.
It’s funny the poster that replied to you in the most toxic and vile way was going on about the forums being bad because people are mean, but there they are being as mean as possible to you really for no reason (on an alt but they are still doing it). That’s just their true colors talking. Sadly, the forum has quite a few of these types.
Anyway, do what you need to do if you want to charge for tanking or whatever. I have more than enough gold and haven’t done any of these farms (or GDKPs) so it’s not as if they are needed but this change was unexpected for people so it makes sense for them to be upset.

What were you guys going to do for prepatch? The gold you earn gets nerfed to the ground in prepatch anyway so not a huge deal.

I had planned to run strath up until prepatch as there is not a lot else to do atm…hit wotlk with 20k for the mount (or 16k if I want to wait for rep)

Lol, nowhere in my post did I mention leaving. In fact, I and many like me will continue to play. We’ll continue to push the game in different ways to maximize efficient gameplay. I’m willing to bet it will push others, very similar to yourself, away from the game just like raw gold farming did.
yeah how did that work out in tbc?
Oh I know

I appreciate your constructive response. There will definitely be a cause-and-effect reaction to this matter. I’m mainly voicing it and more than likely speaking for many who share my sentiment. At the end of the day, I think this has forced many to play the game differently than how they’ve been playing it for close to a decade. I don’t think it will be as positive as some are inclined to believe.

any time blizzard has attempted to correct player behaviour through the tried and true blizzard hammer method, it has either made the issue more toxic, or shifted the problem to another part of the game.
They don’t change the environment to incentivize the behaviour they want, they punish players for playing the way they don’t like.
We aren’t given a benefit to playing the “correct way”, merely the lack of punishment.

I sympathize with you but I’m sure there will be plenty of dks and warriors running around with dual spec. Your resentful plan is to make the players pay and not blizzard.

This change punishes the poor. Not only is last phase gold incomes already terrible compared to earlier phases (aside from farms like solo/duo mage farms in naxx 40) … they also cut down peoples only “enjoyable” farm now for their incompetence of combating goldbuyers / bots.
I can just repeat it every time that you should farm gold first month of an expansion launch and be set for the whole expansion as me and many done so. Then this kind of nonsense wont be a matter for you, but right now it is for alot of people so I hope for you guys to have it adjusted

You might personally, but overall tanks will be charging higher fees, reserving more items, and being more picky. That’s just how it is going to be overall. Your little victory squeal actually means nothing in the grand scheme of how the game will play out.

Dude, duel spec and DKs, I’m not sure this is going to be much of an issue. But sure if you can find a market for your tanking services go for it, you spent the time gearing and what not, there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to be a rent a tank if people will pay for that service.
Youre a prot pally, go run some on-level dungeons…boom, you’ve made some gold.
