The amount of annoying and nuisance filled steps within this secret is crazy to me from a dev team that talks about learning lessons and respecting people’s time.
The fact that the secret finding discord, the part of the community literally dedicated to this stuff, has had people literally give up and quit on this secret or rage out because of how asinine it is, should be enough to tell you that this should never be created or replicated ever again. The point of secrets is to be fun and intuitive. Ratts Revenge is neither. It is a nuisance at every step, it requires a shopping list of things that alienates so many people, unless they’re like me and others and have been collectors and completionists for years, and even those people it doesn’t alienate are driven to the point of giving up and wanting nothing to do with it anymore.
It genuinely wouldn’t shock me if less than 10% of the playerbase own this mount by the end of the anniversary event, which is when it’s going to be at its peak for participation, because of how horrendous it has been and how much negativity has spread by word of mouth within the community about it.
I would be willing to bet that you will see a major influx in participation from the player base for sure towards the end. Wouldn’t surprise me to lean that just as many end up with the green version as they paid for Mountain Dew orange.
With all the steps made public with videos on how to solve them with walkthrough guides, the mount isn’t as rare, just time-consuming to acquire at this point. Now, if the community couldn’t help each other on how to solve these puzzle, I’m sure your 10% or way less would be more accurate on how many players would end up with it.
I can’t say the content is aimed at me and it felt a little tedious. That said I want a neon motorcycle for the land mount undermine patch and im almost certain the last 3 orbs will unlock that function.
I really wanted to like this event. I like the idea behind it. But the actual task of doing it is some of the least fun I have ever had playing a game. I am more than halfway through but I honestly would rather be working than doing this.
It would have been more fun if the puzzles were actually solve-able by me. I don’t like looking stuff up on websites, and being hit with a “do this quest chain”
I think before doing anything Blizzard should reflect “but is this actually fun?”
you guys know its ok to like the idea of a secret hunt and still have an upper limit to how annoying its allowed to be, right? some of y’all are blindly praising this lmao
Followed it from the beginning, thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s extremely difficult to make something that’s entertaining to work through but also challenging enough that it’ll last. I liked that step 5 and 7 were less me guessing coordinates / scouring the world and more me being expected to actually do something myself. Step 7 was my favourite step for that reason.
I liked working together with other players, chatting idle whilst out in the open world working out what the altars wanted, or the obelisk in vale.
Some steps maybe went a bit far into math for me but we as a community worked them out together. I think it would have been a real shame if the whole thing boiled down to a bunch of coordinates to go to and click things like others have been.
Not everything in WoW has to be tailor made for you (general you). Secrets are OPTIONAL content. Some people like the over the top, crazy puzzles and things like that.
