Hello. I think you should introduce the rating requirement to the pvp gear again. The current system we have has no carrot to look for. The nerds who do pve will never hit 2.2 k so they will just play their 14 wins or 50 losses and cap for the week and be done with it which makes the ladder deflated because atm you are running around at 16-1700 rating facing previous 3k rated players in wotlk because there is simply no point of progression.
Besides. Most of the people dont deserve the gear they have anyway. The easier you make it to get gear the more boring the game will become because at the end of the day when you get everything for free you sit there and think now what ? Should i join the goons in normal battleground? Should i help people lvling?
I was thinking they could do something like start PVP seasons a couple of weeks before the next raid tiers, so people could start getting PvP gear upgrades for raiding.
But I also think that maybe they could just give PVP (specifically arena-based, ranked PVP) some love and attention.
It’s quite an interesting game mode, but of course a lot harder to just jump into than pretty much any non-RPG PvP game and possibly far too complicated to be a standalone PvP game offering of its own.
Yes it is locked at 2200. but since people only cap for the week we have no stepping stones to go there yet so 2500 players are looming aorund at 1700 rating atm becuase everything is handed out for free, you gain 1 point and lsoe 24
Because it promotes more people to play the game in order to get the gear they want. if you could 1 shot every mob in PVE and get all your gear at once you wouldnt run that dungeon again, it wouldnt be any fun because there is no progression or goal to look forward to or to force you to become a better player and how do you become better? not playing for cap but playing for something that isnt attainable just yet.
Who are you to say someone doesn’t deserve gear? Rated PVP should be about who is the better player, not who has the better gear. Everyone should have access to the same PVP gear in order to have a level playing field. The rewards should be titles, achievements, mounts, and transmog gear. Sounds like you just want to dunk on lesser geared players instead of outplaying them.
People use this intellectually dishonest take every single time the topic is brought up. At best its that & at worst you’re just dumb.
Having things to chase is fun. His pve comparison is accurate. He’s also right about 1700-1800 being filled with 2600 duelists lol. The ladder is very deflated and if you’re playing that should be obvious to you.
Yes, a pvp game should be even playing field & gearing takes away from that. Thing is this is an old RPG with gearing being a core process. Having gear to chase & reasons to keep queing past your cap is what people that only play the game for arena find fun. I don’t care if somebody gets shoulders or wep before I do, keep improving till you catch up. The stats from a couple slots IS NOT game defining & never has been. Its absolute cope from low rated rats.
That being said this is Cata & we should play the game with Cata’s systems. I dont think it should be changed, but personally as an arena player I would prefer the old system to have multiple goals to hit. More dopamine, more fun.
Rewind time a few months and people were complaining that rating requirements disincentivizes people playing because they’re hardstuck at a rating and can’t buy any gear.
Once in retail i was 2400 rated and thoght i was a badass player and i heard about a realm called Arena Torunament back in 2012-2014 and i thought id give it a try to destroy these peons on this private realm but little did i know. I got hardstuck for a while there at 1630 until i had to progress because these cheap tactics that worked against the common folks didnt work against Homerjay, hydra, reckful, sebii etc. But eventually efter alot of blood sweat and tears i got my Arena master and battle master titles there too. And i also believe howtoprot , which is sebii got rank 1 supreme title there in toc 25 gear in iCC season so it doesnt boil down to gear but it boils down to goals.
PvP is best when people are equal geared, this is why they once again removed rating requirements from gear in Retail like it was during cata/mop (maybe wod too?)
Yes and the world is best when everyone got a M5 parked in their lot. But if everyone had everything would we then be happy ? When you are at the end of an expansion and you got it all how do you feel. I feel, now what ? It is the chase that makes it fun and by removing chase we also remove the fun in the game.
Casual people log in to cap at 1100 mmr and then we cant progress in arena properly because everyone got what they wanted and there are no stepping stones really. its like 10 teams in the entire US that is above 2.2 it would be equal to making raid instances so hard that only 1 guild collaborated with the best of the best could only do the content to get the heroic loot , would that be fun?
The reason they removed Rating from gear is because bad players complained too much that they could not get everything for free.
I personally agree with OP. Without the incentive of gear, I think many casuals will not bother to push past 1k rating, therefore won’t place on the ladder, won’t inflate title spots, and may not “fall in love” with the arena game mode.
Casual myself and the gear is what got me interested in arena.
However I am interested to see if the free gear actually will increase arena popularity - if it does, that is of course a good thing!
Half my friend list are not even 85 yet. The season just started.
With the changes to point gain, there is no hurry to level or to start capping games.
We just did our first matches in Cata classic the other day. At 1300cr we get stomped by a rogue/priest with R1 titles, checked their page and their max CR was 3.6k in wrath. Point being, people are still just starting to queue, so be patient.
