And why do you need to do it now? I may be able to do 70k single target DPS, but for the content I do… thats overkill.
There’s a big different between bots who pile up on raw gold since its easy enough to farm with a group of under geared characters and forced players who back to Nazjatar and just try to get their chores done at best speed possible but are stuck fighting with a bunch of happy tree friends spamming aoe and healing each other.
Need is debatable but some essences are extremely useful. One of the 8.2 raid essences is really good for healers in PvP.
Having PvP essences that are good for PvE and PvE ones for PvP was an unfortunate design choice and one that the 8.3 vendor could easily solve if they removed the achievement requirements.
Now you are talking about something that probably requires its own thread(think there actually already is one) because thats a different issue entirely, and surprisingly is being spoke about on my realms trade chat this very moment.
I don’t know why these forums just hate returning/new players
Half of the essences require you to drop back to last patch and do a few weeks worth of busy work whilst at the same time having to do all the current content which is also time consuming
On top of that you need to get gear and cross your damn fingers and pray for a decent corruption
Why do players hate people playing the same game as them?
If people want the essences they should go do the content. If they don’t want to do it they can use other ones.
I havnt kept the character going in 8.3 much because I have too many alts but I just checked my dk (called aveldk if anyone wants to look) and he has 2 rank 2 essences and a rank 1 on. I did a bunch of keys last season and a few this season too. You can do just fine without bis rank 3 essences
Bfa isnt on life support…
But what they should have done
500 for rank 3 for alts if u have rank 3 already as it currently is
All other essences acquired or not.
500 for rank 1, 1000 rank 2 and 1500 rank 3(for essences you dont have rank 3 of)
Leviathan’s Lure from Behemoth is also still really powerful for some classes - so there goes the “8.2 content is not current” theory out of the window.
Maybe if blizz implement some type of currency that can buy a rank 3 essence that can be done in a day or 2… but they won’t do that
Great for returning BFA players, I’m actually dinking around with an alt/potential future SL main since my main has a lot of essences that I can get them reasonably caught up. HoA catchup is pretty on point now too.
However, the essence grind predicament is largely the same for new BFA players or ones who left before essences were released. The whole reason we got the essence catchup system for alts is because essences were highlighted as a major reason holding people back from returning to the game or playing alts. Take that knowledge as you will, at the very least it highlights the issue of creating as many separate grinds as essences did.
Or they can earn rank 3 the way everyone else did the first time. I started BFA just before 8.3, unlocked vulpera and took a break till I could make my new main.
Imagine having to earn things in a game. Everyday I wish more and more SL would be more like Classic.
IDK if its just me but i have a few green essenses still and run mythic and 20+ keys haha! YOU CANT MAKE ME FARM REP BLIZZARD!!
If it was relevant the rewards from it should also contribute towards the progression curve.
Obviously they do. Isnt that the whole point of this thread? You’re saying i shouldnt have to do outdated content for mandatory power progression because there arnt any rewards that contribute to power progression. lolwut?
It shows up tons on the forums for WoW, it’s a really common sentiment and has been for a while…
“Well, I did it this way - so you should have to as well.”
It’s sheer lunacy and anyone who uses it as an argument is simply being shamelessly spiteful. On topic, the BFA grind for new/returning characters, in general, is a dumpster fire of mistakes and I would entirely support purging all time-gated progression locks to make the experience more enjoyable for people who want to come back and get excited for Shadowlands - instead of being faced with either unfun, filler content or choosing not to play due to not wanting to farm unfun, filler content.
By the time they reach rank 3/4 essences the prepatch will be out and none of it will even matter.
but even generously early estimates for shadowlands would be 3 months. but i think it will be at least 5-6 more months left. =/
yeah me too, classic doesnt have a power spike mechanic like this
the problem is more so there is so much content that you have to do to catch up
imagine a fully not caught up character at this point - with out flying. Flying will be one of the last things you get
the prepatch will be out and none of it will even matter.
None of it matters now, this expansion is over. It was over for me on the release of corruption, worst system ever.
Its just too much to go back and do old content just so you can do current content.
This is what happens when people come into things like this late in the game. The new expansion isn’t coming out for at least 6 more months. One month of doing stuff will not suddenly kill the game for you. Essences do not make or break your ability to run content.
Maybe if you only play 5 minutes a day I suppose That might make getting stuff hard.
Why was this flagged?
STOP USING THE FLAG BUTTON AS A DISLIKE BUTTON. IT’S A REPORT BUTTON FOR RULES, NOT YOUR PERSONAL “I DON’T AGREE” BUTTON.
90% of the essence ranks are timegated, Some even take WEEKS to obtain the upgrades.
This late in the expansion it’s trivial and not even worth the time investment.
Wait, some take a few weeks but somehow that means people won’t get them until the prepatch which is likely 6+ months away?

I mean, it’s a video game so naturally someone starting 1.5 years after it came out would put them a bit behind?
Especially in a game as massive as WoW?
Wouldn’t new players want to slowly work their way through things? Not just skip to raid logging the final raid?
Wasn’t a common complaint that you just play the patch and skip to the end?
