Arms and Fury where decent in Legion. Especially during the “everyone was uncapped,” days.
It’s where pull the whole dungeon and aoe it down, came from.
Both were kinda dependant on what legendary you got, but if you got one you ate like a king.
Season 3 with Deafening Crash allowed Prot to do big damage on large pulls. It was later nerfed, but it wasn’t uncommon for Prot to have close to 100% uptime on Demoralizing Shout allowing for them to do very powerful damage.
Season 4 you just stacked Twilight Devastation until the cows came home.
lol, Bear druids just soloing things with that.
You can list some broken stuffs from any meta tanks in any season. But overall bfa prot war’s dps was still a half of a pure dps. I still don’t see how a half of a pure dps to become an “unkillable dps”. Prot pally in the s1 of tww also had dps of 50% pure dps. Was it also “unkillable dps”?
I used to say my prot pala was rdps tank
I always felt that if Blizz did the top of each class and/or spec to have a title that maybe that would even out the balance of classes in M+.
^ seems that way. Warrior is Blizzard’s Red-headed stepchild. They just like to beat us with belts, and the warrior community on Discord is so demoralized that it lacks any hope that Blizzard will change this.
It’s not that the diehard warrior fanbase doesn’t want their class to be good, they’ve just given up. but honestly they should just #ignorepain and start grouping up and demanding changes. Encourage some of the big-name warrior community people to make Reddit thread posts to be reposted and X, and on the WoW forums, have to be loud to get any meaningful changes unless you’re Druid or Shamans blizz’s golden children.
There are a number of Warrior streamers that have called for changes and/or expressed dissatisfaction of how warrior is tuned. It pretty much is that most of the community are just done with trying to talk Blizzard into making warrior good. We know they don’t listen to us or care about what we think.
That reminds me of either Cata, or maybe it was in Pandaland, where tanks had this stacking buff where the more damage you take in combat, the more attack power it builds over time. Things got a little wild there for a bit before they removed it.
Vengeance, it was around in Cata through WoD and got removed going into Legion I believe. Mostly due to the meta of /sit macros plastered into every keybind for tanks to game more vengeance stacks.
Edited for correction ![]()
I have some memory on Tol Barad just sitting in one of those jails building stacks for awhile to go punk a boss.
Wait no it definitely came in cata, it just went bonkers in mop and wod in terms of degenerate gameplay around it. That’s it.
Didn’t know tuning was finished on the ptr…
Uh we have like two weeks?
How much tuning are they going to do in that time with everything on their plate?
3 weeks till patch, 4 weeks till raid.
Given the history of how they do this every time once they have tier sets locked in they tend to be more aggressive with tuning.
So expect numbers to be changing within the next few weeks with the broken specs at the very top by a large margin receiving massive nerfs and the lower specs receiving buffs bringing most things to a solid middleground.
Well 19 days for patch so I guess it’s in between.
However, given blizzards track record I highly suspect we will just get a blanket 5 percent damage flat buff sort of deal rather than addressing any real issues. These buffs being to base ability and not the tier sets which will remain meh because of protection balancing issues.
I mean if you want to get into semantics.
This week still has 1 more day or so of changes to be pushed to the PTR before the weekend which isn’t out of the ordinary this close to patch day for a new season so it still counts.
Then you have two full lockouts before the patch releases on live servers for the initial M0 week which will usually see a few more balance builds before being tagged as release candidate.
Then there’s the raid release week which most likely will consist of any last minute changes before they lock everything in mostly for the WF race. After that is done within the 2 week period (over 2 lockouts at times sometimes 1) only then will there be any further last minute changes for anything missed that was major.
This happens every seasonal patch like clockwork, there also has never not been at least one of the warrior dps specs balanced as good enough for raid from the get go.
The other spec also gets a boost if they’re behind in the later balance tuning passes.
Given the whole vuln phase aspects of later bosses being a thing and Arms having a very strong build that utilises vuln phases well (Colossus) you’ll probably still see a warrior or two in these later fights.
It’s mainly a dissatisfaction with where and how warrior has been tuned this whole expansion. Even you have to admit that Blizzard completely over-reacted in S1 and just ignored us for the most part. You may think we’re ok, but the vast majority do not.
Yes, it’s the same song and dance we’ve seen many times. With many times being straight disappointed in the outcome.
I mean would you rather they make extra work for themselves and waste even more time before they’ve even locked in the tier sets for the season? Causing an even worse off balance of specs than the somewhat solid tuning we’ve had all xpac? (fury problems non withstanding raging blow/meat cleaver etc).
I feel like that onus is on those who have higher expectations on what is possible when you’re not a spec that’s getting a rework for that patch.
The only thing coming the way of warriors outside of protection right now is aura buffs. Expecting anymore and feeling disappointed is a result of your own investment in it from an emotional standpoint rather than logical.
It’s a game, have some fun with it. We’ve always had workable builds for all aspects of the game be it Raid/M+/PvP and people still compete well enough by finding builds that work even when they’re not the meta.
Always having upper middle of the pack DPS for Raids, and at least one viable spec for M+? That’s pretty solid tuning considering people are still making Arms and Fury work at some of the highest key levels.
Almost every fight in NP S1 was a multi-target fight. Despite the nerfs, Fury was very strong outside of exactly three boss encounters (Sikran, Kyveza, and Court). Afterwards Single Target buffs came in and the spec was serviceable for Raids.
Thane was strong in S1 for M+ for Fury due to the dungeon design and smaller pull count (EG Grim Batol).
Of course not. Majority of people wouldn’t be happy unless their spec was a the top of every meter in every scenario. That’s not realistic nor good balance.
I think Warrior has issues, but I don’t think any of them are so dire, that people shouldn’t play Warrior or that we need some intervention from on high to come save us.
Outside of this season for Fury for M+(which it still isn’t awful you just pull differently), when was the last time Warrior was so awful it wasn’t playable? Fury or Arms has consistently been a good spec in raids, I can’t even remember the last time either spec was so bad that you couldn’t justify playing either one of them.
There’s the M+ Pug Perception, which is always a losing battle since people don’t understand the importance of damage profiles or how they even work, that is very difficult for us to shake (And rightfully so since our Utility isn’t good), but beyond that in focused groups you could always find success.
Neither Arms nor Fury is some broken shamble of a spec like Shadow Priest.
