Thall’s Special. He is probably contractually mandated to be in the story if Metzen is on the payroll, given he is basically Metzen’s avatar.
I think they will split silvermoon, one half will be void the other light. And void elves will be on one side with alliance. Horde will retain the right side with Sunfury spire. Tranquillen will be a sanctuary zone
Personally I’d rather Night Elves NOT take any spotlight or savior moments from the Blood Elves in Quel’Thalas or the Sunwell
Not to mention I’ve got Night Elf fatigue … And Alliance fatigue Gimi some Horde glory (without the villianism) dammit lol
Well. Sadly, what we want won’t matter. Midnight is gonna have the Great Elf Unity Party because (something something). Given where the expansion is set, that something something is gonna involve saving Quel’Thalas.
Why this very high/blood/void elf-specific land requires all the every elf to come together is a mystery yet to be revealed, but it’s very unlikely to be anything other than saving the area the expansion is set in, and by proxy Azeroth as a whole.
it would just confirm to the player base that he was only ever a seat warmer for the next Windrunner to take the job, and that would be terrible.
Which is kind of the point as well. No matter how you slice it, he’s in someone else’s seat.
I really don’t see how fulfilling the Sin’dorei’s worst fears about the Void by having the Void take out most of their defenses would make them trust the Ren’dorei more. If anything, it would only reinforce Rommath’s position as correct.
Well, that’s precluding the idea that Rommath himself is in league with the Void. Again, I pointed to the datamined (but scrapped) voice lines about him being a member of the Twilight’s Hammer Cult.
Even were he not to betray Quel’Thalas, however, I can see the narrative spun to make him wrong.
Lor’themar: “Curse that Xal’atath! How is she bypassing all of our defenses so easily?! Why don’t we have any measures to protect ourselves against the Void!”
Halduron: “Weren’t there a group of Magisters studying the Void? I distinctly recall some of the Sunfury forces who returned to us after the Sunwell was rekindled who had studied under the High Astromancer Solarion. In fact, I’m positive they were studying the void precisely to protect Quel’Thalas from it’s power.”
Aethas: “I think they were exiled for studying the Void.”
Halduron: “Well, lift their exile! We were fools to have ever exiled them to begin with! The Sunwell is so vulnerable to void magic, that we should have always had a highly trained and skilled, elite unit of void casters on hand! Who is the wither-brained moron that exiled our one and only defense against the Void? How utterly feckless does one have to be to even contemplate that?!”
Rommath: “I mean… Alleria’s mere presence caused a void incursion at the Sunwell-”
Halduron: “I read that report. We’d never have stopped it if she weren’t there, which is just proof that we needed void experts. I ask again, why would we have ever exiled the only people with the knowledge and skill to protect Quel’Thalas from the void? I don’t know why, but the words, ‘Cubicle Crawl,’ keeps coming to mind. I don’t even know what a, ‘cubicle,’ is!”
I disagree that Halduron is more likely to die than Rommath. Unless Velonara suddenly gets a much bigger role, he’s the most prominent elven archer Horde-side now that Sylvanas is gone,
Yeah, I imagine Blizzard isn’t thinking of this as “Horde-side,” anymore. They’re just thinking: “Okay, time for the elves to unite. Need to get some representation from each group. We’ll do a Ranger-General Windrunner, that’s a classic. Let’s see… if Lor’themar keeps his seat, we could off Rommath. Grand Magister Umbric has a nice ring to it. Or maybe we should put Arator on the throne? King of Quel’Thalas. Rommath’s still a bit of a pain, but Aethas would fit into his place nicely. Lor’themar never wanted to lead anyways. He can retire with his hot new wife.”
If I give it much thought… I think Halduron would be an easy one to kill off, and get more bang for the buck.
He isn’t that well known or popular. He holds a position that is well known among the fans. Tons of Elves are all coming together. It almost feels like there is little room for him, and he would best serve as an early death.
In other words, were Halduron and most of the Sin’dorei’s soldiers to get wiped out by the Void, then yes, his death, the death of the Ranger-General and all his power (manpower and individual power), establishes the Void as a threat.
You make a good point. Halduron dying isn’t a big deal in and of itself. But if his forces were manning the defense of a critical position, and were wiped out - it would have an impact, as far as the scale of the threat.

I love Rommath, but he also looks ready for a replacement. I wish he would be on screen more, and doing Horde Mage stuff… but instead we get Jaina.
It is possible that Blizzard villain bats him, in order to give the Void Elves a way back in.
I am getting sick of how they keep pushing Aethas on us. But they are insistent on him being there. It has come to the point where Alliance fans probably know Aethas more than Rommath, and we all know Blizzard makes the lore for Alliance fans.
I dread the notion, but replacing Rommath with Umbric or Aethas does seem on brand with the Alliance bias going on, in over drive, lately.

If Rommath has to get replaced, I’d rather it was by Astalor Bloodsworn. He’s done a tiny bit more than Rommath (I think he showed up somewhere, once or twice), but he is the Magister credited with the creation of the Blood Knights. I think I’d be okay if he were to be the new Grand Magister.
Of course, the best outcome is that there ISN’T a new Grand Magister at all, and Rommath finally gets a chance to shine. His attitude towards peace is problematic, but its not as if Blizzard isn’t fixing problematic attitudes by having characters just magically forget all their grudges.

With Dalaran gone, Aethas IS looking for a new role to play.
Jokes / Nightmares aside, if the Kaldorei had one place they might find a reason it could be perhaps to restore Thas’alah and help kickstart the rejuvenation of the worst hit parts of what is now the ghostwoods.
He seems kinda boned tbh.
Alleria is our main bow elf for the time being. Then Lor’Themar’s also a ranger so if any Sin’Dorei is getting bow elf screen time it’ll probably be him. And then to make matters worse you might have 1-2 other Windrunners to suck up any extra bow elf screen time.
Has Lor’Themar ever actually loosed an arrow? I only recall him ever using a sword.
He keeps leaving his quiver of arrows at home. Thalsyra has given up reminding him that he’s a ranger, not a warrior
I’ve already forgotten he exists.
A bad example of how Blizzard lets them gather dust.

Rommath definitely deserved more than he got…
But I hope he doesn’t get replaced by one of the two idiots. Aethas, the miserable sycophant, should go where the pepper grows! He is an Alliance sympathizer and Umbric should do something different.

I can’t stand the constant Windrunners focus anymore…
Why don’t they just die?

One did.
Once.
One did.
Once
Temporarily anyway.
Temporarily
You’re right.
Actually, I was wrong… Sylvanas died three times. Once to power-sliding onto Frostmourne, another to sauronite spikes, and the third time from a bullet to the back of her head.
One did.
Once.
The sibling pack is still alive…
I looked up his attacks in game and honestly he behaves more like a spelp breaker.
another to sauronite spikes
I knew Sauron was involved somehow!
I knew Sauron was involved
Look, we all knew that the moment we saw Icecrown Citadel. I’m just adding the letter Blizzard left out.
