Ranger-General Halduron Brightwing needs Spotlight

As per title — Ranger-General of Quel’Thalas: Halduron Brightwing — Needs some much needed epic-spotlight.

So with the coming expansion ‘Midnight’ with our return to Quel’Thalas, I’m seriously desperately hoping that Halduron gets some badass mind-boggling scenes that brings him on par with the legendary awe that Sylvanas held from Warcraft 3.

  • In the hunter order-hall in Legion, I was hoping he’d get some cool significance in the story — But he was mostly just there to act as a placebo for bringing his ‘rangers’ to the hero and didn’t really serve much of a purpose, lol

Triumphant Dialog:

In Mists of Pandaria (Before the Purge of Dalaran) — Although I was kind of irked he had to hold Vereesa as a helping hand to the Amani-Threat - I did enjoy Halduron’s dialog to the Farstrider messenger who came on behalf of Lor’themar to demand an explanation from Halduron and tell Vereesa to leave in correlation to her & the Silver Covenant’s exile … of which Halduron basically told the messenger and Lor’themar to get bent :joy:

Dialog as follows -

Silvermoon Messenger: I bring word from the Regent Lord of Silvermoon; Lord Lor’themar demands an explanation for the presence of this… exile in our lands.

Vereesa Windrunner: Quel’Thalas is as much my home as it is yours and I would not see it fall to our ancient enemy. Now, you tell your cowardly regent –

Halduron Brightwing: Vereesa, please! … She is here at my invitation, courier. Most of my Farstriders are away and cannot be recalled easily. Vereesa’s rangers know the land and are experienced combatants.

Silvermoon Messenger: Lord Lor’themar does not concur with your reasoning, ranger-general. You have no authority to invite this –

Halduron Brightwing: :rage: I am the commander of Silvermoon’s defenses and I will seek assistance as I deem necessary!

Halduron Brightwing: Now, Chieftain Vol’jin, before we were so rudely interrupted, you were telling us of the Zandalari’s plans?

  • {Halduron, Vereesa and Vol’Jin discuss plans of attack on the Amani-threat}

Halduron Brightwing: Agreed … Messenger, you may carry word of our plans back to Lord Lor’themar, but make it clear that I will not tolerate any further interference!

and thus the Amani-Threat was quelled in Quel’Thalas …

I loved how he stood his ground, it really radiated ‘Ranger-General’ energy and I’d love to see him get more limelight — Especially stand-alone fame that’d make the masses roar with awe & hype.

It’d help rebuild the Horde’s active-hero roster along with give the Blood Elves some oomph that’s not overshadowed by the Alliance’s elves (hopefully) or ‘Human Potential’ too.

Ultimately however,

I’m rather contemplative on HOW they would achieve such with Halduron? Hopefully more than one singular scene too.

I can think of some, but for the sake of entertaining thoughts & improving ideas – Though I’d ask the forums :yum: How would YOU bring Halduron to glory?

The quest writers usually have the monopoly on the best stuff, so I’d keep him away from the A-lister cinematic stuff and just lean on him for heavily involved quest chains.

If they stick him in the spotlight instead, he’d probably just be the next casualty on the growing list of Competent Woman Replaces Stuffy Old Dude and end up retiring, dying, or retiring and dying.

“Ranger-General Alleria” Freudian slips are already happening in TWW, so Brightwing looks to be staring down a barrel in Midnight. Hope springs eternal, though. I’ve always liked the character and appreciate that he was the first blood elf to discard their race’s “haughty prejudices” when they joined the Horde. That’s an overlooked bit of lore and he’s an overlooked character.

Personally, I’d have him head up the blood elf side of the oncoming Amani plot and push reconciliation opposite Farstriders who aren’t so progressive. Bonus points if he tackles the problem with help from Rakera, whom he’s been palling around with lately, instead of Vereesa again.

It feels like there are so many Thalassian elf rangers around and only 1 of them is actually a Farstrider and he’s the least used of all of them.

Would love if Alleria scoffed @ him the whole expansion, only for the very end for her to finally succumb to the void — and have Halduron put an arrow through her heart, walk up to her, pull out his blade staring down at her kneeling before him as her mind finally recovers – Tells him that she misjudged him & thanks him for releasing her, as he pulls out his blade — Quickly cut the next cinematic panel of blood splattering on the wall, then slowly shift to the blade dripping and a grim expression on his face.

 But that’d make all the Alleria simps mad, so lets probably not do that. :joy: :joy: :joy:

Though I would love for Halduron to humble BOTH Alleria AND Vereesa, with absolute triumph, lol

Unfortunate by-product of three Farstrider alumni all sharing the surname Windrunner, I guess. God help him when all three make probable returns next expansion.

I am gripped with dread at how bad The Windrunner cavalry moment is going to be.

Yeah, I’d rather them NOT hog-up all the potential for other characters — Especially the Alliance, in a HORDE zone take up majority of the glory & greatest moments … :face_exhaling: But here we are, where it’s most likely for-sure probably most definitely absolutely without a doubt going to happen.

He gon’ die so either Alleria or Vereesa can become Ranger General of a united, faction neutral, Quel’thalas. I’m hoping its Vereesa just because Alleria not wanting to be RG is now kind of a big part of her and Sylvanas’s backstory and also Vereesa needs something to do now that Dalaran doesn’t exist for her to be racist in anymore.

Imagine making the leader of Silvermoon’s military the person who lead a militant hate group and ran a pogrom.

Both the choices are horrible, but somehow Vereesa is worse.

She’ll fit right in with Horde Leadership.

… two peacenik bovines, two peacenik longears, Calia Menethil, and WoW’s analogue to Moses? Belmont is the only leader left with a war crime to his name and Blizzard at least does Alliance players the courtesy of minimizing interactions with him.

Halduron should be a) shown off as competent in questing on his own without having to lean on anyone named Windrunner, and b) not be killed or villain-batted in order to make room for anyone named Windrunner. If he’s shown working with other people, I’d rather see him working with other Sin’dorei or other Horde, such as Rakera or Silgryn. This is literally all I want to see. Halduron has some fantastic lore connected to him, and his relationship with Lor’themar is excellent.

You’re right. The horde needs some war criminals back to spice things back up. Another point for Vereesa.

“You cannot kill hope,” Sylvanas farts from off camera

Xal’afeetpics$20.99 gasps, “You!? I thought you were Mawsurfing forever and definitely not coming back in the expansion about Quel’Thalas!”

“I wasn’t aiming at you,” Alleria then reminds Xal’a’bala’dala’mudcake. She smirks, satisfied with her juvenile quip because she totally isn’t ancient as the crumbs in my mustache.

DEATH TO THE SUNREAVERS!” Vereesa wails in the background, emptying her quiver into the nearest shopkeep.

The only reason I can see Halduron surviving Midnight, is that he’s pro peace between the factions. That’s about the only reason not to kill him off to make the Void seem like a threat.

Unfortunately, among the reasons that he could be killed off are two potential Windrunner replacements who’d make the whole, ‘Uniting the Elven Tribes,’ narrative feel more impacting by taking up the mantle of Ranger-General.

While we’re appointing enemies of the state as the state’s military leaders, maybe that Highborne serial killer and attempted regicide can be reinstated as leader of the night elf Warde- wait a minute…

See? It’s a running theme in WoW already. Like imagine if they took the Goblin race’s primary villain and made him the leader for eight year… oh wait.

Anyways, I can definitely see Halduron dying and naming Vereesa his successor in the name of unity. He was already fairly pro-QT unity back in cataclysm and was even friendly with Vereesa to boot.

I’d be cheerfully roaring, so, so – SO hard — if Alleria and Vereesa tried to solo Halduron Brightwing, and he utterly schooled them both; stood over them, smirked and humbled them: “There’s a reason why I’M Ranger-General … Don’t either of you forget it!”

  • Before walking off and then giving us quests

Whether it’s over a dispute to plan-of-direction or an assertion of leadership, GOD I’d be so thrilled and be having a joyful tear running down my cheek with Horde-pride returning back to me. :smiling_face_with_tear: lol
