Ranged vs. Melee

This is an opinion thread! No wrong answers here.

What do you guys enjoy playing more in battlegrounds, and why?

For me, I’ve played almost strictly melee from classic to Legion. With my favorites being: Warrior, DK, and Rogue. Ive always enjoyed being in the big battle, and these classes had always treated me well as far as how powerful they are.

But since Legion, I’ve actually started to play more ranged than anything (Warlock and Spriest). Even though there has been an influx of people playing very powerful melee classes, I’ve been finding a huge amount of enjoyment and success learning how to position myself as ranged to stay out of danger and rain hell on everything. Demo and Destro has been immensely fun for me this expac, and my Warrior and Rogue (my only other 120s) just hasn’t felt right for me in BGs now.

What have you all been enjoying more lately?

I’ve not enjoyed ranged in BGs since Wrath. It’s been melee ever since.

Outside of when Frost was 2h, I’ve always tended towards ranged. I don’t like being in the fighting blob, I can’t focus as well.

Range here. By a lot. Mage is the only one I never got a feel for. Shammy barely but have had some decent times with ele. I’ve tried every melee at max except enh and rogue. Did do rogue at lower levels. Just don’t like it much. Felt awkward.

I play both at the same time. its hard to say one style is funner than the other, both have their pros and cons.

God… do I miss 2H Frost. I mentioned this not long ago in the general forums in a thread talking about it. Hungering Cold… huge Obliterate numbers… fun stuff.

I played almost exclusively ranged characters through wrath because beyond having the advantage of being terrors at the back line, they could also be solid 1v1 contenders.

Caster specs just haven’t been the same in 1v1 since. Great melee players just couldn’t get the best of my spriest but melee attention feels like a death sentence nowadays.

There are exceptions, to be sure, but overall the experience is just less rewarding.

Melee if you got a great team.

Range if you want to be a potato farmer.

Melee in arenas and ranged in bgs. Too easy to get mercd if you’re in a 10v10 brawl (unless you’re a rogue/warrior with some outs).

Been playing since classic started off as a hunter but once BC came been a druid main ever since up to today

Sweet, russet or red?

Man, i sure do miss 2hd Frost. Played the hell out of it during Cata. Felt like an unstoppable killing machine with how strong self heals was for Frost then, too.

Gunda- I mean I’ll farm them no mater what potato they are, I don’t discriminate.

I played a warrior and paladin for years and I hated how every melee seems to enjoy jumping in circles and trying to juke their opponent. There is a strategy in doing that and I understand that but as ranged I love kiting my enemy and keeping my distance rather than jumping around like rabbits biting at each other.

I played a Paladin from WotLK through WoD as a healer. When Legion came out, I went Demon Hunter for the amazing speed and the ability to always press a button!:scream:

I don’t like the changes of BFA to DH. Felblade is my preferred spec, but you basically have to take Momentum for it to be close to viable… I hate Momentum. I like my Frost Mage most in BFA. Slowing people makes me very happy.

Ranged unless you enjoy being stunned, slowed, rooted, feared dead in 20 seconds/spending more time at the spirit healer than on the battlefield.
