I had a character named “Warmar” on the server Doomhowl Hardcore. This name was randomly generated with the randomize option. I got a two day suspension on my 2nd wow account after being mass reported for having an inappropriate name. I don’t care about a two day suspension but it’s a bit ridiculous to be suspended over a name which was recommended to me by Blizzards randomize option all because players report me over something auction house related.
I should add that the mass reporting has been ongoing problem by gold farmers. To give an example: In November my second WoW account was silenced for a week. Before the silence I kept getting behaviour warnings so I stopped replying to whispers on my 2nd account. The behaviour warnings persisted so I eventually disabled whispers so I couldn’t see them. Yet I kept getting behaviour warnings despite never typing anything in game.
A player was creating new characters and whispering me with “.” and then right clicking my name in the chat box to report me. He’d delete the character and create a new one to repeat the process. This eventually resulted in a week silence despite never typing a single thing.
Two examples of how broken the automated report system is.
TL;DR: suspended for using a randomized name recommended to me by blizzards randomize option because of mass reports
You’d still need to ensure the name within the name is within the naming rules.
I’m pretty sure they’d be reporting their own messages as messaging someone else would only have their reply show up. So it’d be a rather moot point to make.
Here’s the thing. It only takes ONE report for Blizzard to investigate.
Multiple reports for the same thing (the exact bad name you are referring too, for example) will not make Blizzard punish you more.
The reports themselves will NEVER cause account action. Account action is applied AFTER Blizzard has investigated both the logs and any previous account action the character/account has had.
I’m not sure why you believe this has anything to do with your character’s name, Chairmon, it does not.
Just for clarification, even if a name is provided by the random name generator it is still subject to our naming policies. If the random chance spits out something inappropriate, you can still be penalized.
I don’t see any issues with that name and as as I said, that is not the reason why a penalty was applied.
Not really. Even if they switched characters it is still a unique report for the account. It doesn’t count multiple times.
It looks like you already have an appeal ticket in. I understand the frustration, but that is the only means to have these things reviewed. They should be able to verify if a mistake was made or not.
Note: I did look at the ticket and it seems it is in the hands of a Game Master for review (looks like it’s been in queue for a bit).
Editing to add some more info and I apparently switched my sentences.
Edit 2: It does look like the email you received notified you of a bad name. That is strange, because that is not the violation I see. I’m going to make sure that gets looked into. The notification sent is usually automated when the violation and penalty is selected, if it is sending the wrong notice we want to make sure that is corrected.
