Random Freezes 1-2 times per day for 5-20 seconds

So let me preface this with a lot of information to save you a lot of time. When I say I’ve gathered information and I’ve tried just about everything I mean it. I used to write a tech YouTube channel when I would build and design systems to benchmarking etc and I used to build systems to sell in excess of over 100 per year. So I have a plethora of parts and components available to me for testing at a given notice.

Since patch 11.1 I’ve noticed in group content raids and Mythic plus that I won’t counter at least one freeze the last on the low side 5 seconds on the high side up to 20 seconds. This has been widely documented across Reddit with over half a dozen threads with hundreds of comments All experiencing the same thing.

I went ahead and did the following:
Wiped my system loaded only WoW with no add-ons.
Move my system to another Network
Built an entirely separate system and tested on both networks.
Turned xmp on and off
Reduced settings from 7 to 5
Resolutions rested: 3440x1440 and 2560x1440
I ran a 24 CPU load test, memtest and combuster for 24 hours to verify no errors.

These are the specs of both systems:
Intel I7-14900k
Rtx 4080
32gb ram
2TB NVME SSD

Amd 5900x
6800 xt
32gb ram
1TB NVME SSD

So now that I’ve had the exact same issue across two different fears on two different networks with fresh World of Warcraft installations and no add-ons and this is still happening and the fact that this happening to hundreds if not thousands of other people I’m starting to think this is a game issue that needs to be looked at.

I’ve been experiencing the same thing. The game freezes completely for several seconds. This occurs unpredictably, sometimes several times per day. Other apps on the computer continue to function normally while WoW is locked up. For me, it’s mostly happened while doing delves, but happened once while doing open world content. It started happening after patch 11.1 released, and never before that.

EXACT same issue here.
Glad I’m not alone. This needs to be fixed so bad, tons of bricked keys because of it.

same issues with me… a lot of lag spikes and disconnects

at this point I’ll need to consider unsubbing because of it

Can this please get some attention from Blizzard? I don’t like going into a key knowing that my game will freeze and cause my character to die.

I recommend checking the WoW client’s RAM usage in the Task Manager. I’ve been experiencing memory leak issues where the game ends up using up to 17GB of memory and starts stuttering.

Same issue.

One thing with me was that when 11.1 came out, I also got a new computer with a 5080 graphics card, so I had also wondered if it was maybe some deal with the graphics card being new and having some buggy interaction, though it seems like getting a better graphics card that processes WoW stuff much faster (my loading times are much shorter now) would be weird to suddenly have random freezes like it couldn’t handle what it was processing in a raid or dungeon (where the issue seems to happen the most).

It is fairly rare in terms of playtime. Like maybe once a day or not at all, but still easily a handful of times a week, that somehow will choose to strike at some really awful moment in a high key.

Experiencing the same, it’s very rare but always seems to occur at a very untimely moment and has been perhaps 1-2 times a week.

I thought my computer was having issues and did a large amount of troubleshooting. Bittersweet knowing that it isn’t just me.

I have had the same problem and it is so frustrating. Only started with 11.1. I uninstalled all addons, updated drivers, set gpu, and tried running a dungeon with nothing installed (gross) and still got it. It’s not a memory issue either. After reviewing forums on reddit where there are thousands of people complaining about this with all different specced computers and different scenarios when freezes occur - it must be a game issue. I wish blizzard would resolve this.

From my analysis, all signs are pointing at the client not receiving/processing network packets from the WoW server, freezing everything that requires input from the server (movements and spell casts of other players and NPCs, health bar updates, etc.), and then all of a sudden receiving/processing them all at once in a big explosion. During the freezes, I’m able to move my character around and attempt to cast spells (though I only get the animation of trying to cast without seeing anything cast). My other party members see me moving around and casting spells. So, my client packets are getting to the server during the freeze.

This is definitely an issue of communication from the WoW server to the client. With as prevalent as this issue is, Blizzard should be actively trying to figure out the cause.

Do you have any idea if this can cause stutters (not freezes) as well? WoW has had this damn stutter problem for me across 5 different PCs tested at home since Dragonflight pre-patch and probably 100s tested at my work. I just have no clue how to fix it when even fresh PC builds get the same stutters.

Just today out of no where, haven’t played all day until tonight. it seems I can’t even play for longer than 10minutes without my game completely freezing for 20seconds black screen and am forced to alt f4 the application. Happened 3 times in a row now. Once in a 10 key, now in a delve. i think im done for the night.

I tried checking and i found LiveKernelEvent 141 (nvlddmkm.sys) on my event viewer .

yes I’m beginning to suspect there is some issues with the latest Nvidia software.

Same here, having constant freezes that forces me to close the game.

Wasnt a problem before the patch.

if you’re having 3-15 second game freezes upon an event triggering a WeakAura or Addon there may be a fix for it.

That lua error is most likely caused by a bug in the WoW engine, which has to do with playing sounds. If a sound file is not cached, sometimes the wow engine takes a long time to load the sound and causes freezes. We can’t do anything about that, it’s for blizzard to fix.

:warning: Fix Action for any Addons or WeakAuras: Disable any sounds

i feel like its dbm because if it happens itll be right before a mechanic or encounter/dungeon loads.

not too sure i dont feel like running around without dbm for a whole week just to see.

i dont think it ever happened in open world, always instances.

tl;dr feels like its dbm loading modules/fights or something, but idk.

Mine happens in open world. I haven’t been able to even stay logged in longer than approximately 15 minutes for the past 4 days

So mine happens only in delves, mostly on last boss. Freezes then disconnects.
I go back am dead & have to redo boss.

Having the same issue it happens in retail and SOD. I dont use addons.
