I want to get back into playing raids when DF comes out. So I had a simple question that I have been assuming, but I don’t know if it’s incorrect.
So, just for context, this question is just about a normie raid guild, not a top of the line mythic raiding guild.
If I joined your raid normie guild, and refused to play M+ for extra gear because I hate M+ so much, would you be reluctant to allow me on the raiding team?
Would it be like “Man, this guy doesn’t play ball or put the work in for the extra dps or heals,” or does anyone actually care about this? When I did heroic raiding in Nath, I always felt a little pressured to play M+ weekly to keep up, but I don’t know how much of that was self imposed and just my reluctance to say “No, I don’t want to do that.”
I feel like the above scenario is assumed a lot, which is part of where the hatred for M+ comes from for some people. Is this just paranoia, or do people really feel like everyone should be playing M+ if they raid?
This, All depends on your group, there’s always a min-max culture in the game that’ll push for M+ and some guilds help with at least the weekly +15; however, there’s a lot of cores that doesn’t ask for this, maybe if there’s a block in the progress, any gear can help with that but it’s a matter of your raiding team.
I don’t M+, and I’ve never had a problem getting AOTC. Occasionally my guild master will put out a beleagured “can everyone PLEASE try to do ONE mythic dungeon before next reset” notice but I ignore those instructions and I’m very rarely bottom dps. you’ll be fine. <3
The idea is that doing M+ is an easy way to acquire gear early on, and many people that raid like to have as powerful of a character as they can that fits their intended investment. This is normal for almost every type of video game that has power progression - doing bigger numbers, more damage, etc is fun. People want to have fun.
The reason it’s amplified in raids is because it’s a team thing, and people want people to contribute to the team.
Min/maxing is a lot different than just getting upgrades when you can.
As others have said, you just need to find the right guild / raid.
If you’re in a raid where M+ is optional but others are doing it, you will feel left behind and others may harbor animosity towards you if they feel like they’re carrying you through content.
You need to find a raid that actively despises M+ as much as you do, where none of the raiders are doing that content. That’s where you’ll feel at home.
It is fun, but “fun” is not black and white. The challenge being the majority of the fun does not mean it is the only thing people are allowed to find fun. Gear upgrades are also fun. Doing challenges for certain items is fun. etc.
This is a normal raiding guild? I mean you can get the same gear from a 2 so it makes sense to do some M+, but at the same time, you can successfully clear normal in last tier’s normal gear.
