Raiding time commitments in Cataclysm

Hey all!

I haven’t played Cata before, so I’m trying to look and gauge how much time I will be spending in raids, especially for T11.

I am planning to be in a semi-hardcore (not a #1 team, but pushing the content) team. I imagine that might take me… 6 hours per week in the raid alone? Please correct me if I’m wrong there.

I’m also curious if I might have enough time to lead a semi-casual 25 raid. How much time would a semi-casual (learning on-the-go with some log reviews, checking in on people struggling, etc.) spend per week? Another 6 hours in the raid?

Thank you for your insights in advance! 8)

This ent the place to look.

You should be looking at your realm discord or fourm to see what is common for the guilds you are likly to apply to ie what time your running at and level of guild.

As the time you need will vary widely based on the type of guild and where in the content cycle you are. Eg a world end guild might be 100 hours for launch week expected but only need 1 hour a week when content is long on farm. Nornal guilds don’t swing as much but they can still double if not triple raid time when content is not on farm. While some realms 2 hour raids are common to some guild types such as speed while others 9 hours a week is.

As for leading a raid that depends entirely on you. As the leader you set the time commitment and recruit based on that.

4-9 hours a week in raid alone depending on the group caliber, the logistics will probably cost you some time during the week 1-2 hours, much easier to deal if you have a good officer core.

As a raider with no responsibilities other than to show up and perform, 6 hours per week is probably the norm. Most guilds seem to be advertising that as their schedule.

If, however, you want to run your own guild, you have basically the work of a full-time job ahead of you. You will be doing a lot of hand-holding and often dragging the people into reading/watching guides, making sure they’re showing up for raids. You’ll of course also be checking logs and working with people to step it up or correcting mistakes. And sadly, you’ll be dealing with personality quirks and internal sqabbles, and most likely constantly recruiting.

A good officer core will alleviate the time needed. A bad officer core will exacerbate it lol.

We probably see streams doing it in hours week one. Average joe probably needs some progression. Im sure with 10 man size down everyone thinks they are sheading the weak ones and will be the top tier… but I have my doubts it will be wide spread. But it is hard to tell because last patch talents and balancing traditionally cheeses content in at least the first tier.
