Raiding specs as a druid?

I never played a druid during Vanilla/Classic so I’m not familiar with viable raiding specs and I seem to find mixed answers everywhere I look/ask.

Anyone with experience want to elaborate?

Thanks!

They are all “viable”. You probably mean “optimal” or “will more likely get me a raid spot”.

In that case, you would be looking at Resto being the top candidate with 1-2 per raid. It’s a decent healer, but probably worse than the other ones. Still people want their MoTW and HoTs are kinda fun.

Feral tanking is good if you put in effort. Ferals are great off tanks. They can tank some (very limited) fights better than warriors, but those are few and far between. However, if you put in the effort (farming MCPs is a must), you will be a threat generating machine. It’s pretty fun.

Feral dps is… well again you gotta farm a crapton of MCPs and master a “difficult” powershifting rotation. It’s rewarding if you do as you’ll see your numbers rise, but rogues/warriors will outdps you with half the effort.

Then there’s boomkin. Just don’t.

But this completely shifts for PvP, correct?

Bear / Cat / Resto all viable for PvP?

I would never play a boomkin even if it was viable, not my thing.

Everything Daxjin said. Also, unless another druid is the faerie fire guy, then consider keeping FF up a priority.

Yeah that’s what very fun about druid. All of them are viable in PVP and the spec is pretty much the same, which saves you a ton of respec costs.

Pulling off amazing plays as a flag carrier is quite exciting. Resto is pretty nifty to get out of trouble too if you master using your forms well. Cat is surprisingly good at ambushing and ravage hits pretty hard.

Resto will be the easy pick as groups will always need heals and Druid buffs.

Feral tanks are desired as they bring the Druid utility kits “innerv, brez, lotp, etc.” to the fight, also it’s far easier to gear bears then warrior tanks and helps reduce gearing competition. Tank wise Feral druids are better ot’s then warriors but warriors are still best at mt imo.

Dps wise Ferals “can” do it but you’ll be spending a uncomfortable amount of time in gnomer lol.

Balance Druid I’m not sure, never played it.

Druid is literal dog water in pvp

You can PVP on a druid but nothing is viable. Don’t listen to all the kids that tell you they’re great wpvp… That ends about the time you hit 60 and everyone starts gearing.

Druids are awful in vanilla. One step above the abomination that is vanilla paladin.

IMO, ask yourself what sounds like the most fun. Also ask your guild what they need. If there’s some overlap, you’re in business.

If there’s no overlap, see if you’d be willing to fill their needs with the spec they want. If not, reroll guild.

I had a lot of fun PVPing with my druid in Classic and they are good at World PVP due to the ability to stealth, kite/reengage which really annoys people, and escape if needed. The downfall of druid is there’s no real burst DPS.

If you think that druids are bad in all aspects of Classic PVP (and WHO do you think is a better flag carrier exactly?) well maybe it’s just you.

Druid has the benefit of being the worst at every role. You can play all of them, but it’s not optimal.

Resto and feral tank will get you raid / dungeon spots though. Innervate will be very strong if you use it on a priest, mana issues will be bad with longer fights. Druid tanking is good but you need to farm a specific item from gnomer to achieve it.

I would recommend to narrow down what you want to play, and then pick a good class for it. It’s no fun getting frustrated at 60 and regretting class choice.

You can offtank or you can heal pick

No one ever expects much from the druid, and everyone enjoys getting tea bagged by the bear. It’s not a bad life really.

Literally the ONLY thing druid does in pvp classic is carry the flag. I’m talking about tier 1 pvp’rs vs tier 1 pvp’rs.

I don’t mean some rando scrub out in the world pvping. Druid is terrible and can’t kill anything once people are geared up. All you can do is harrass and run.

Your big dum is showing.

Those goalposts must be heavy.

How to say you have no clue with out saying you have no clue.

Druids can kill when people are geared up, it just takes time. If you are rating classes specifically based on PVP DPS and kill time then yes druids suck. They also aren’t top PVP healers.

Another place they are good is AB flag defense, they can solo defend a base due to their stealth, survivability, and kiting ability along Moonfire long enough for the team to come. That’s vs say a warrior who can be hard CCed and the flag taken fast, even though the warrior burst DPS is much better.

You are talking about world PVP where druids have a few things going for them: Stealth to avoid fights they don’t want, decent outdoor CC, and survivability. Being able to pick your fights and get away when it’s clear it’s a loss is a huge part of what makes them good in World PVP. You can disagree and say that the only thing that counts in World PVP is a fast kill, that’s fine. Druids are definitely a stronger PVP class in TBC and beyond though so I’ll agree if you’re saying that.

There are no ratings in either Classic or World PVP so that’s not really relevant to anything.

Anyway, I know this topic is actually more about raiding where Classic druids do not in any way excel but there will tend to be some spots in raid groups anyway due to the MotW, battle rez and innervate.

I’m just glad we have a Tier 1 player here in this thread. It’s a real honor sir.

No prob glad to see my fans out and about.

I main druid in classic its dog water. You have to put 10000% more effort in to kill someone.

Druid isn’t a free HK in open world because they’re Olympic tier when it comes to running away.
