I largely agree with you from my limited perspective as a care bear who’s bad at PvP. There’s excellent druids who can 1v1 very well, but it always seemed like they have to outplay the other class quite a bit. Respect to the players who make druid work since it seems like it takes a pretty high skill level to 1v1 people consistently.
I always enjoyed healing for semi-organized or PUG group PvP on my druid over my priest though. At least I feel like I can react (i.e. run away) when I get focused as opposed to my priest where I feel like I just need to sit and tank everything since most people aren’t going to help.
I don’t think druids are garbage in PvP so much as things like hunters with the BWL crossbow, warriors with Dark Edge of Insanity, etc exist.
Guess what I’m trying to say is screw all y’all, nerf everyone but druids.
Literally the ONLY thing druid does in pvp classic is carry the flag. I’m talking about tier 1 pvp’rs vs tier 1 pvp’rs.
I don’t mean some rando scrub out in the world pvping. Druid is terrible and can’t kill anything once people are geared up. All you can do is harrass and run.
There is a feral druid beating Pshero in a duel tourney in the 2nd set beginning at the 7 min mark. They are both in Warlord gear it looks like. You can also see how difficult it is to kill a druid in the first set as a rogue with an opener.
Most players are not going to be Pshero level of skill though. If you get the opener on a “rando” rogue on your server, 90% of time it’s going to go like this: Pounce, rake, rip, pre-abolish (they blow a reactionary blind into a dispell), shift bear and kill them within 30 secs.
Long story short and any way you slice it:
Feral has a top tier match up vs. rogue in Classic.
Feral has a strong match up vs. mage, and fair match-ups vs. warrior and hunter.
People are also probably not going to gear up like they did in 2019 Classic this time around because of the faster cadence of content and increased difficulty of raids. That means Feral’s baseline good damage will be more effective for longer.
The opponents are using the same set of r12-14 stuff. The druid is swapping to a Warden Staff… I guess that’s BiS raid gear in a sense.
2nd rogue made several mistakes that cost him that duel
Like what?
This video literally shows a druid struggling with the ONE class it does well against. LoL
It shows a long fight between two high tier players. They both bide time looking for good opportunities. Pshero stalls for quite a bit of time himself.
Like I said though, most fights aren’t like that: the rogues you face down are not going to stutter-step dead zone your charge for minuets on end, if they can reliably pull it off at all.
It’s also not the one class druid does well against: Feral can straight up dumpster a mage by putting on a wolfshead helm and PvEing them. Druid controls fights with warrior via root. You can make yourself unkiteable to a hunter.
