RaiderIO and account security

I would like to bring it the attention Blizzard that Raiderio compromises account security by forcing those who desire privacy to link their accounts to their website. As far as I’m aware you Blizzard has always taken account security very seriously. I am disappointed that you continue to allow this website which is attempting to gain access to our accounts to continue to operate.

Please use what ever means you have to strongly encourage this website to no longer default our information as on and hold that information hostage until we link our accounts.

Optional 3ed party website is still optional.

Nobody is forced to do anything. Also, no private information is transferred. Only character data.

It’s actually not optional. As you have to link your account to opt out. This should be forced to change.

Again, it’s also not private information. If you wish to opt out, feel free.

If you don’t want to, then don’t.

If you think there should be a change, you’ll want to post in the Macro and Add-ons forum or perhaps the general forums as CS is not a feedback/suggestion forum.

It’s optional in that you do not have to use or sign up to use RaiderIO, Dexterworgen. It is in no way required for playing World of Warcraft.

Keep in mind that linking your account doesn’t necessarily compromise it’s security, it depends on what they are asking for. If you are asked to provide them with your account name and password, that would be concerning. If you are simply providing character information, that doesn’t provide personal data.

Is there anyway I can simply just set my armory private here? I do not trust their site with my email account which they require to create an account to make my information private. Additionally their terms doesn’t inspire confidence where they say they can use our information for marketing.

Sorta…

Go to your character icon on the top right of the page. Look for the gear icon. Go to Interface, and select and check “Hide my public profile and presence features”.

Though your armory page will still show up on google if someone searches for it.

Better then nothing, the addon is still a security breach sadly looks like this is the best I will get.

in your opinion. Blizzard seems fine with it or they would have shut it down long ago.

Also, the info remains available to that site.

OP, if you’re that concerned, make a fake/throw-away e-mail account to use for stuff like this. Then you don’t have to worry.
