Raid Locks

when SoO came out originally the Raid ID Locks changed, you used to be able to run the whole raid in normal or heroic more then once on one character, you could only get loot the first time you killed a boss. So why are the locks not loot based like original SoO?

You are wrong. You are misremembering Siege of Orgrimmar.

In original Siege of Orgrimmar, patch 5.4, normal and heroic lockout worked the same as it was introduced in Cataclysm patch 4.0.

Flex difficulty was added between LFR and normal which introduced the raid lockout you are describing but ONLY for that difficulty. However, that, alongside LFR, got sacked by the devs for absolutely no reason.

That said, what you are mostly referring to is the reworked raiding system introduced in the Warlords of Dreanor prepatch 6.0. We are not in Warlords of Dreanor.

nah not true because this isn’t original mop. we have no flex. This would require effort from blizzard and we know well by now that isn’t a thing anymore.

this is a blue post: Loot-based Lockout
Used for: All Raid Finder raids, Siege of Orgrimmar Normal/Heroic, Warlords raids Normal/Heroic.

  • You can kill a boss as many times per week as you like, but only loot it once per difficulty.

  • Anyone can join anyone’s instance.

  • Bosses are never locked to you, and you can always go back and kill them later even if you’ve skipped them by joining a group that had progressed further.

They are referring to the Warlords of Dreanor rework introduced in 6.0 as this is a Retail post talking about how the lockouts out of different raids work (posted during Legion) in Retail. Retail has the latest, 6.0, rework of Siege of Orgrimmar. You can do mythic Garrosh.

Original Siege of Orgrimmar had the same system as Cataclysm. I don’t know how to explain it to you but original Siege or Orgrimmar did not have loot based raid lockout. I played all of SoO back then, even have videos from back then. Siege of Orgrimmar was a simple continuation of Throne of Thunder with the small addition of Flex difficulty (which doesn’t exist in Classic). The big change came with WoD.

You even removed the most important part that would tell you that’s the WoD system lol

  • Raid sizes can be anywhere from 10 to 30 players, and difficulty automatically scales to match.

What system original SoO was using is (at least as far as Normal goes):

Flexible Boss-based Lockout
Used for: Normal difficulty raids from Wrath of the Lich King through Throne of Thunder.

  • You can only kill a boss once per week, and you may not enter an instance where a boss is alive that you have already defeated that week.
  • You can move from group to group during a week as long as you’re joining instances that don’t have bosses alive you’ve already killed.
  • If you enter an instance that is more progressed than your own and get saved to it, you will be locked to all prior bosses.
  • You can move between 10 and 25 raid size, given these constraints.

I’m not going on a discussion whether the system is better or not but it is simply wrong to say they are using the wrong lockout system. They are using the correct one considering we are still in MoP. IF they were to release Warlords of Dreanor Classic, they should change Siege of Orgrimmar to a loot-based lockout.

Ahh yes i found more details. only flex was loot based lockout until 6.0.2 (wod pre patch) when normal/heroic converted to loot-based which lasted a month until WoD released. I remembered Tanking Garrosh over and over to help guild mates get their heirloom weapons and selling carry spots to outsiders before WoD went live.
