Raid lockout clarification

Hello all, happy Cata!

I have questions on how raids will work, which then directly translates to how my guild will setup our raids.

Can a single character do 10M N, 10M H, 25M N, and 25M H? Maybe just 10 and 25 at whichever difficulty you choose? I’m hearing mixed answers from the interviews with devs and from official Blizzard avenues.

Any help would be appreciated! Good luck grinding!

Taken from Wowhead,
The raid lockouts are boss-specific, meaning players can kill bosses on either 10- or 25-player during the same week . This means you could start the week as a 25-player raid and clear as far as possible, then finish up the raid later in the week as a 10-player group to clear the final bosses.

Blizzard have mentioned they’re adding some kind of per boss lockout system like in retail but haven’t clarified the details yet.

So my plan was to setup a 10 man raid roster that pushes into Heroic, and then a 25 man roster that has most of the 10 man roster members pushing Normal, would that be possible with the confirmed details so far?

Take this with a grain of salt cause I’m not 100% myself, but from what it seems you can only choose to do one lockout per week and it’s up to you if you want to kill the boss on 10 man or 25. Essentially you don’t have to do both lockouts (10 and 25) every week. Now for heroic and normal, I would assume it possibly works like wrath where you can switch the difficulties you want for each boss.

No.

Once you kill a boss on heroic, the “flexible” system goes away.

If you kill a boss on heroic, you are locked to the Raid ID, much like Classic, TBC, and WotLK. You’re group can swap back down to normal for the remaining bosses, but you cannot join new groups for that raid for that week.

10 and 25 are shared. So if you kill a boss on 10 heroic, your character is locked to that specific raid ID and only allows for 10 man until reset.

If you do not kill a heroic boss, you are in “flexible” mode, which means you can swap between 10 man and 25 man, but you only get to kill one boss on either version per week.

You may not join a raid with less progress than you. Thinking in terms of ICC, if you killed up to Saurfang in 10 man, you could NOT join any other 10 or 25 man team unless they were also past Saurfang.

You can join groups ahead of your progress, but that will block your previous boss progress. So if you had not killed any boss this week and joined an ICC group on Putricide and kill him only, you couldn’t join another group who is on Lady Deathwhisper.

So you cant do normal and heroic in a week?

So if I kill any boss in H 10M, I can’t do any 25M bosses at all? What if I clear N 25M first, can I then go to H 10M?

Nope, think of it like ICC where you can kill Marrowgar either on normal or heroic, not both. The difference now is that if you kill him on 25M, you cannot kill him on 10M now either. The 10M bosses and 25M bosses drop the same loot with the same iLvl. 25M just drops more.

Nope. You have to choose if you want to kill Boss 1 on 10M or 25M. If you kill him on normal you can leave group and join a group as long as they are on Boss 2 or further. If you kill him on heroic, you are locked to that raid ID and raid size for the week.

To clarify even more for people

You cannot do a 10 man full clear raid then go do a full 25 man raid

YOU DO have the option to go from a 25 man raid to a 10 man raid AS LONG as one you create/join has progressed to the same boss or farther

BUT they do share the lockout

Right now I believe you cannot switch from heroic bosses to normal bosses at each fight
Which means if you kill a boss on heroic you are lock to heroic… you cannot switch half way through to normal

so using this OG cata post as reference https://www.bluetracker.gg/wow/topic/eu-en/14713237976-flexible-raid-locks/

But let’s say you are a member of a Heroic raid in Icecrown Citadel, and after killing Lord Marrowgar on Heroic you have Internet connection issues that prevent you from raiding for two nights. During those two nights, the rest of the raid kills everything. Without the Flexible Raid Lock system, you would be done with raiding Icecrown Citadel for the week. Ouch. With the Flexible Raid Lock system, you can join someone else’s raid as long as they are doing Normal difficulty. This would at least give you the opportunity to earn your Justice Points for the week.

So it does seem like you can always join a normal group regardless if you have killed heroic bosses.

it also says

If a 10- or 25-player raid defeats a boss on Heroic difficulty, then those players may now only raid additional Heroic encounters with that specific raid.

I still get the impression you can swap to normal, but you can only do heroic if everyone is on the same heroic raid ID

I didn’t say anything about switching groups as well as difficulty…

Not sure how you interpret the last link

But it seems like if you try to join a different id on heroic you cannot do that
Which isn’t tied to anything I said…

That being said the last point was made with speculation hence the word " I believe"

Which only stated the fact that if heroic boss is in the same group mind you you’re locked to that heroic… I believe you cannot switch to normal but I could be wrong… didn’t know I had to say the last part either
