It seems like every race in the game has some type of order for their classes in the lore, and to me at least it would be really cool to get to join something like the death stalkers as a forsaken rogue or the shattered hand clan as an orc rogue and essentially push the war campaign from your own race’s unique class order and maybe even have the mission boards based around combating the opposite faction’s racial order hall. What would be some good ideas for this?
There’s like 168 different race/class combos.
I’m all for expanding on race/class combo lore, but a class order for every one, or even just a single questchain for every one, would be a pretty huge undertaking.
Race orders that expand on class groups within the race would probably be the easier way to go.
Exactly 168 class combinations, 175 if you count Alliance and Horde Pandaren as two different races, not to mention any future Allied Races or class availabilities to old races.
Even if all your characters were different race/class combos, that would leave over 125 pieces of content you’d never get to experience firsthand.
I did count, but I made it an estimate incase I double counted or missed a few.
Ohh you’re right I didn’t think of that.
Yeah, I figured you did the same, just wanted to double check the numbers.
It’s a good idea, but it would be a lot to juggle, and it would require Blizzard to go back on the homogenized themes they’ve been giving a lot of the different class/race combos in the last while. And then there would be the issue of what constitutes a given class for a race?
Take night elves, for instance. Priestesses of Elune are a combo of priest, balance druid, and hunter, in canon. So do all those classes get access to the same hall for night elves? Wardens are a combo of rogues and demon hunters, Sentinels of warriors and hunters. Mages and Druids would be easier to place, but then you’ve also got demon hunters themselves.
And then you’ve got the crossover, especially for the Light wielding races. Dwarves, humans, and gnomes all use the same Light, and presumably their paladins and priests (just priests for gnomes) would be grouped in the same racial halls.
I do like the idea of fleshing out and defining the classes as they relate to the different races, the most annoying thing Legion did was homogenize the themes of the more unique groups, though that started ages ago when the Blood Knights stopped being what they were. But I’d rather they just start showing that in content as it comes, or with visuals like racial glyphs, instead of mini-zones.
I think A better idea would be racial halls and with in those they’d have sections for some of the different classes. However that’s basically just capital cities. Though some races are lacking in that department\
Edit: I like the idea of more unique racial qualities being added to the different race/class combos. I think adding racial themed glyphs would be awesome. For example troll shaman (witchdoctors) would blue spirit fire and purple lightning spell effects to give it more of a voodoo feel.
I’d rather just one order per class, and then one order per race. And then I’m part of both orders.
Rather than a whole city, just have Orgrimmar and Stormwind have an embassy for each race.
Thats just lazy vespero.
Keeping everything in the capitals is boring, we dont need massive cities, just a hub.
So you mean like the Order Halls where they’re technically scattered all over the Broken Isles, but there are portals/flights/secret tunnels to all of them from Dalaran?
That would be fine, im reaonable enough to know they likely will want a central hub, and it offers enough locational variety to make each feel distinct.
I just think it’d be nice for every race to have it’s own hall in the capitals.
Orgrimmar already has neighborhoods for most of it’s races. It’d be nice if each of those just had, like, a main building, and that was a quest hub for a sort of racial campaign.
My issue is the fact Org will be to tightly packed. It already has half the space of stormwind do to the canyon walls, cramming several new minihubs would either mean the racial hubs will be to small or the city would become even more clustered.
I wouldn’t mind a race class hub. It would be cool to see how some of them view their class differently from other races that share it.
Another reason why I’m annoyed when they just getting thrown in with the rest. You could even throw warrior or better yet paladin in that mix too.
Wait, where did these totals come from? Did I miss something?
That’s why they need to build more stuff on top of the cliffs.
There’s already stuff up there, and there’s plenty of empty cliffs left.
I say rework some of the current neighborhoods, so, like, Goblins and Trolls aren’t sharing the same valley(that also has the Allied Race embassy in the middle of it). Move the Tauren, Pandaren and Elves to the tops of the cliffs. Have the Orcs, Trolls and Goblins in the Valleys, and the Undead in the Cleft.
In fact, you wouldn’t need the AR embassy at all because each race would have it’s own Embassy, so you could just have the AR unlock quest take place there.
168 is the total number of race and class combinations playable in WoW as of today (including Kul Tirans and Zandalari). Since Horde and Alliance Pandaren would likely have different halls in this scenario, I’ve bumped it up to 175 (Pandaren have 7 classes). Even with the realm restriction removed, there’s still the 50 character per account limit, leaving you with 125 halls you’d never get to see - more than that even, since the game will certainly add more Allied Races and class combos.
while the number would still be too big to feasible, it would probably be less since (at least how im understanding it) the OP is wanting these race/class orders to represent the “lore” classes. So there would be some overlap. Like most of the Zandalari and Darkspear halls would probably be shared since like a Zandalari troll and a Darkspear troll shaman would both be witchdoctors. On that same note Tauren and Orc shaman are both simply shaman. Lorewise (at least as far as I know) there’s no real differences between shaman between those two races.
Human and dwarf would share the same paladin hall while Lightforge and regular Draenei paladin would have one.
But yeah even combining it like this were to reduce the number in half (which i doubt it would be even that much) you’d still have far too many to be practical.
I do think it’d be cool for the lore classes for the races to be recognized. I’ve been dreaming of the title “Witchdoctor” for years. I feel race specific titles would be cool and much more doable.
Speaking of of Tauren and Zandalari I’d like too see then not lumped in with the other paladins. Lore wise their power source is not the exactly same as the other light users. The Tauren are focused on the light of the sun and the trolls the loa. It’s unfortunate that some of these race classes loss their lore uniqueness in favor of the human versions of their classes.
yeah i completely agree. I try and make my toon as witchdoctor-y as possible but they keep making shaman as orc/tauren as possible. I realize having unique classes would be impossible but i wish they would add titles, spell effects, and those type of things to help preserve the cultural flavor for the different race/class combos. I hate how legion OHs watered down so much of the lore for some of the classes
Seconded. I was just strolling through Orgrimmar on my Alt and was thinking, “Does no one in this city have a degree in Urban Planning?!” I’m sure at the very least the Trolls would like some more space, considering how explosive their neighbors tend to be.
