A few hours ago, I purchased a race change for my hunter but haven’t been able to actually use it. The transaction went through, per se, but not entirely. I am able to customize my appearance and change my name, but when I try to click through to completion I get an error message that says, “Could not change race for character.”
I have tried logging back out, logging back in, closing everything down and restarting, giving it a couple of hours in between everything… still nothing.
I’ve done a zillion of these race changes before, but I have never had anything happen like this. I am currently just chalking it up to post pre-patch chaos, but I am curious if anyone else has had a similar problem.
Edit: As Vrakthris stated, if you’re having issues with race change, please submit a ticket and try to be patient. Several hours later, mine was fixed and I was able to complete the race change no problem.

I am having the same issue as you Fusebox. Paid for a race change for my hunter, go all the way through the process, and then get the error message “Could not change race for character”.

We’ve seen some issues with character services but most of them should be cleared up now. If you are getting this error can you please submit a ticket under “Purchase Failure”. That should help for troubleshooting and tracking additional cases so it can be looked into.

It’s not just you, I’m having the same issue. I put in a ticket. “Unable to update race” or something like that. Sucks that they went on sale, but can’t be completed.

Make sure you include the error you are getting, Kerevath. If you are also getting the “Could not change race for character.” that will help our QA teams track it.

Looking to race change to Nelf - but as others have experienced - it isn’t happening.
Placed a ticket.
I’m having the same issue and I did put in a ticket you you people closed it saying it’s working. IT’s NOT WORKING. I have the option to change the race and customize my character yet it fails when I click finish saying “Could not change race for character”. And to make things even more frustrating your support site is garbage and it won’t let me reopen or access the ticket you closed on me yesterday without fixing my issue.
@Khearsa yeah their support site is garbage. It took me 10 tries before I was able to open my support ticket yesterday for not being able to do a race change on my character. Then they closed it on me without fixing my issue or talking to me. And today I see the closed ticket in there but I can’t access it and I can’t open a new ticket. They never have an issue taking your money though. They make sure that part is always working fine.
@Glenmorangie, I know how to open a ticket. That is the link I used and have been trying to use. When I click to submit my ticket it just goes back to the top of the website. I’ve tried various browsers and even different computers with the same problem. And my ticket they closed on me gives me a Blizzard error page when I try to click on it.
I was asked to re-puchase it. I did so, but the error is the same. I attached screenshots as requested, but I don’t see them anywhere on the ticket, so I hope they got there. I’ll be pretty bummed if I have to spend muns a 3rd time to find it hasn’t worked. 
As the OP said, I’ve done this tons of times. This isn’t even a faction change.
Yeah mine isn’t a faction change either. It’s just changing my druid from a Worgen to a Nightelf.
I’m having the same issue - the GMs have been kind and helpful and made a couple of suggestions of things to try, but still no luck I’m trying to change my druid from a Worgen to a Nightelf too.
Hi Minimoe! Like I mentioned below, I was having the same issue (while trying to change from Worgen to Nightelf as a druid). I took some information a GM gave me and experimented a bit and found a solution that worked for me: I was trying to give my new Nightelf self the dark bluish-black eye color and the GM told me they noticed that the eye color looked like it hadn’t fully rendered based on the screenshot I sent in. So, I tried to do the race change with everything the way I wanted it appearance-wise, except I changed the eye color to another random one. And, it went through immediately! Hoping this might be your issue as well and this might help
