Quitting in Solo Shuffle at higher rating

Anyone care to explain why a person who is 1700-1800 would quit a solo shuffle round?

It happens constantly. I can’t for the life of me explain why a person who is 1800 would quit a solo shuffle match. Rage quitting? Ok sure maybe once. But after the first time you do it and realize your going to donk down about 180 points you aren’t going to do that again.

Its obvious what’s going on. Boosting. Somehow these idiots have figured out how to queue into the same games and they are boosting up a paying customer. So when they either get the desired rating or are afraid the customer may donk down because they may lose rounds they quit out which only helps them because they need to donk back down anyway to boost the next guy up.

Piloting wouldn’t explain it because quitting would defeat the purpose. If this was something that was rare I would say sure maybe dude rage quit but no this happens all the time multiple times. Its happened to me 3 times already today and I have only played like 5 games!! lol!!! When I was near 1800 it was happening just as much if not more.

IME, it’s usually a healer with a significantly outpaced MMR leaving these matches. You can do pretty well in your first placement match and then get thrown into a lobby so much farther ahead than what you’re ready for that it just becomes overwhelming. The penalty doesn’t really matter when you have no CR. It’s usually just someone on an alt who says screw this and logs out.

so they can play vs the noobs and win

at lower cr sure. I am talking about situations where dude is 1800 and donks down almost 200 points not someone who has a high mmr and 0 cr. You can see how many points they lost at the end of the match my dude.

I know exactly what you’re talking about. I prefaced my entire thought with “IME”, which stands for “in my experience”. In my experience, it’s not super common for people with 1800cr to leave 1800mmr matches. It’s super common for 300cr healers to leave 1800mmr matches. You are not me, so your experience may differ. Hope this helps.

Inb4 someone (likely Covlol or Swole) says some BS like “1800 isn’t high mmr” just to be a d*ck.

again in rare instances I totally believe that happens but this is happening way to frequently for something like that.

Don’t people in placement games get placed at 1700-1800?

Also I think your mmr takes less of a hit than your CR if you leave a game so it’s easy to get your rating back up after you leave.

For healers in particular, the MMR range is a lot wider. You can legit be a lifetime 1400 player and get a lucky first placement match and find yourself in an 1800 lobby on your second. DPS players also have a lot more invested in that lobby in particular, because they had to wait a lot longer to be there, and will have to wait a lot longer for the next match. You’re also going to have a lot more linear climb to 1800 as dps because there are more dps players to match you with at that MMR, where the number of healers queueing at that moment might make the delta for them a lot wider. The big loser in that scenario is actually the other healer, because it’s likely going to need to go 5-1 or 6-0 to avoid losing points, and it’s a tall ask of the dps in the lobby to consistently not throw games. It can also be frustrating if you’re a dps who doesn’t fit super well with the good healer’s spec, because you’re kind of depending on the other healer being able to do what it’s supposed to do when playing with it for your wins.

My clearest example of this would be something like a 10.0.7 lobby with FW/disc/ret/bm/arms/demo. As the hunter, I would have been the least compatible with the way you want to play FW in that lobby, and most compatible with the disc. I would have been more or less depending on being able to win the matches I get to play with the disc in that lobby, and if it sucks, I might go 2-4/1-5 simply based on how much easier it was to beat hunter/fw/x as 10.0.7 ret/war/disc (even with a bad disc) than the other way around with the disc on my team.

Placements are at 1700 now? I haven’t done them in awhile and last season’s MMR carried over a little for me. That seems high for new players tbh

Your first placement as a totally new character with no mmr history is going to be 1500. The thing about healers right now is that the MMR spread that they queue into is a lot wider than DPS. It’s not uncommon for two healers to be hundreds of mmr away from each other. What can end up happening is that new player goes 4-2 in their 1500 lobby, which throws their MMR up into the high 1600s, then the next lobby they get thrown into is an 1800mmr average lobby with the 4 dps being between 1750-1850, but the two healers being like 1675 and 2100. The 1675mmr new player is unlikely to win any of these matches because not only is the lobby average an entire tier above their comfort level, the other healer is an entire tier above that lobby’s average in terms of comfort level.

When I was doing 1800 as offspec survival, this happened to me multiple times, in particular with MW monks. You notice that the MW is in this situation and you just kill them on swap (it’s notoriously easy to kill bad MWs as survival). Do it two matches in a row and they just ragequit.

I was at 2080 accepted the queue right when I did that my Boss called me out of the blue needing me to all kinds of stuff for work. I had to walk away and it kicked me out the game came back a hour later and I had lost -150 points. Queue again and it put me in 2.2 lobby and got like 80 points for 4 wins lol. I dont know how it works but maybe they are qutting so it puts them in higher mmr lobbies ? so its easier to move up ?

because it doesnt matter. rating in PVP beyond a seasonal goal doesnt matter. a 1800 player isnt going to magically become a duelist so if they get their seasonal transmog for them the season is objectively over and now its about just enjoying some games.

You dont just “grind” yourself to to higher ranks, and its hard to get better playing RSS, you have to play more organized 2s/3s to really practice and improve by a 300 CR margin.

So, your season is over, you have your tmog, you get a healer that lets you die to WW/ARms while holding 2 BoPs… well. you leave.

It happens. I might have done it out of spite a few times. Not saying I Did do it buttttttttt you know. It happens. Probably a good reason for him leaving

well they both say that cause MMR delusions kick in around the 1200s which both are hardstuck at. those below 1500 tend to claim such

i haven’t done any this season but the ones i did before it became rated was terrible for a healer.

not leaving is super hard for any healer. props to every healer that thinks at 5 matches. should i just leave? but don’t.

If I can’t play my character for two or more rounds, I just leave. I don’t care about rating.

I ain’t got time for 6 rounds of pristine CC chains delivered by the scummiest of addons and scripts.

Sometimes I have to leave. I have two kids and sometimes I just don’t have the time that I thought I did. It’s not intentional, but stuff comes up and I have to bail sometimes.
