It’s more a commentary on the genre than an advertisment to FF14.
If you want to play an MMO you got slim choices.
WoW
FF14
EVE online
Everything else is dead trash that is nothing better than a thinly veiled scheme designed to convince idiots to part with their money for lootboxes. Yeah sorry BDO, ESO, etc etc etc that includes you.
Since most WoW players don’t want to play “spreadsheet simulator: the game” they’ll end up going to FF14. EVE is great in concept but it’s a tough pill for many to swallow.
FFXIV is very close to WoW. I think this is why. It’s tab targeted, you have action bar, tank, healer, dps, crafting, dungeons and raids, loot, gear level etc…
There are more than that. Pretty sure EQ(both) are still up and running. Then you have lotro still chugging along. Daoc is still a thing but that’s going to be a tough game for the modern crowd. These all have actual subscription models like wow but EQ2 is a bit… not sure where they actually stand.
I think the reason we do this is because lots of WoW players say “There is nothing else good on the market” when they rationalize continuing a WoW sub.
FF14 is fine as a single player experiences but the dungeons have no replay value the pvp is trash and the raids are easy and boring. Basically ff14 does everything good expect end game
XIV only has one furry race: the Hrothgar. The miquote and viera are just humans with animal ears which have never counted as furries since someone just wearing cat ears and a tail would probably be laughed out of a fur con.
Meanwhile, while WoW has four full on furry races (tauren, worgen, vulpera, pandaren).
I do prefer WoW’s race variety, but WoW is 400% furrier than XIV.
That’s it I’m going to try ff14, at this point wow has gone down a rabbit hole to hell with no end in sight but the splat at the end when it hits bottom.
You should do a side by side comparison of WoW vs FFXIV - world of difference. Your so used to WoW graphics you can’t look past them to any other game and its holding you back from enjoying the full content of FFXIV. As for me, I think WoW is extremely cartoony in a world where Cyberpunk graphics are border-line real life and perfection. WoW is outdated and old gen graphics…its getting worse as time goes on. The character customization, despite updates, is still very limited and bad while all these new games(cyberpunk, FFXIV, ESO, ect) allow FULL range of customization, heck even Nioh 2 allows “teeth coloring”.
There is literally nothing to do imo. Get facerolled in pvp because I decided to play a caster? Run the same dungeons over and over for anima? Raid for anima? WQ for anima? I don’t care about the covenant upgrades, or the cosmetic unlocks or another mount that I will never use, so why do I do need anima?
I know most people hated BfA, but it had stuff for everyone to do, that also gave player power and a sense of progression. The pvp event in nazjatar, heroic warfronts, and my favorite the horrific visions. There are no equivalents to these in shadowlands.
