Quick question regarding Animal Companion and soloing

Was checking this post on Wowhead: https://www.wowhead.com/guide=14282/shadowlands-hunter-soloing-table-only

Author recommends Clefthoof + double pet (Animal companion) for soloing (E.G. Torghast).

However, as far as I know, doesn’t animal companion reduce pet damage? Thus reducing healing from ferocity leech. Isn’t Killer Instinct Better for just having 1 pet with no reduced damage? (Thus more survivavility).

I’d appreciate any insight, thanks!

It depends on what content you’re trying to solo and how geared you are. Animal Companion’s lower passive leech healing isn’t always an issue (especially in Torghast with its random nature.) If you don’t actually need the extra healing you may as well take the higher DPS option instead.

That actually makes a lot of sense! I guess it was kinda obvious, I might be a little rusty! =P

Thanks a bunch!

I haven’t tested myself, but since each pet is doing less damage, this means should be harder for them to hold aggro. I don’t use Animal Companion when soloing for this reason.

On my hunter i run Arra’chea without animal companion. Theres not much i cant solo.

With Animal Companion you get MORE Leech because you are leeching from 2 pets. And youre self heal when you heal your pets also double dips both pets and heals you for more than single pet.

For hard fights in Torghast, you want Animal Companion and every 10 seconds you cast PET HEAL, this puts a nonstop ticking heal dot on YOU. It keeps you alive.

Leech only heals the attacking character. That means pet damage and Kill Command only heals the pet, not the Hunter. Hunter only benefits from Leech of auto attack, Cobra Shot, Trinket Procs (???), etc. (their own damage).

Not familair with all Torghast powers but AFAIK, none allows Mend Pet to heal the Hunter directly.

Not sure what you are talking about. Mend Pet HEALS YOU. End of story lol. Nothing to do with Torghast. Go try it and read the ability tip for Leech, your healing you do to pets heals YOU and when you use 2 pets it doubles it.

Was about to edit my comment but yes, I was checking other posts and indeed Mend Pet does interact with Leech!

“Additionally, leech will also provide extra healing for Exhilaration and Mend Pet back to the Hunter.”

Well I learnt something today.

Ya just went to confirm because I never actually checked one pet or 2 pets and yes one pet heals you for half the amount when you use pet mend, so to your initial question about survivability, animal companion doubles the healing benefit you get from mend pet and the bonus to exhiliration. Double dipping pets is the way to go, I like any pet that has ferocity and turtle shield so when they are low they become immune for a bit allowing pet mend to fill them up again, and ferocity means you can use Lust on every floor of Torghast as it resets on every floor and is a huge dps boost. The pet I use for all this is usually CORE HOUND

Don’t run AC in torghast. You’re gimping yourself by doing so. Several traits in torghast buff your primary pet, AC will reduce those buffs. In short, you’ll actually do more damage and healing with just the one pet in torghast. Outside of torghast, use AC.
